Strength:

Good Looks, Great sound system, Nice ride and comfort.

Weakness:

Realiability, lack of quality in the product, fail to take pride in what could be a great product.

I'm a little on edge about my jeep. I have only had it about 6 months and already had to get a new radiator because in stop and go traffic the temp. was going to 240 - 250. Every so often the transmission seems to slip when I'm turning on to a street. I put some slick 50 transmission conditioner in the tranmission and for now that have seemed to take care of the problem. Also the A/C is not putting out like it should. Only seems to be working at 85%. I love the ride and the comfort. I have the Larado with the limited package that also includes two tone leather seats and sliding sun/moon roof. I haven't seen one like it yet. I love the sound system and enjoy driving the Jeep. It's a good looking automobile. It's a shame that people are having so many problem because if Chrysler would put better quality in the jeep, they would more than compete with lexus and toyoto. The Grand Cherokee is really over price.

Weakness:

just about everything mechanical

I bought my 99 G.C. Laredo used in '01 and had to trade it in less than 2 years later. It was in for repairs every 3 months. Several electrical problems, rotor problems, power window motors failed, oil leaks, transmission, wheel bearings. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone! There are major defects with the 99. Purchased the extended warranty. Helped some but the expensive repairs were still not covered. Isn't that what the warranty is for? I know of at least 10 other people who have had similar problems with the same vehicle. Chrysler should be paying for all these repairs for all owners but refuse to admit there is a problem. For the amount of money they are asking for these, it is not worth it. DO NOT PURCHASE A GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. IT IS JUNK AND IS ALL LOOKS. That goes for all Chrysler products. I have had and know other who have had Chrysler vehicles and all have had mechanical problems. CHECK OUT WWW.DAIMLERCHRYSLERSUCKS.COM and seriously reconsider if you are thinking about purchasing a Chrysler vehicle!

A Few Minor Fixable Issues Not Essential to Driving

Great Car. It's definately a jeep thing. Only had it for a few months, even though its nine years old it still runs great. My 4.0 I6 kicks really well, very fast for an SUV. When the car is idle you can feel a little vibration problem. But we've already seen that problem be fixed. So it's fixable if it's that neccessary to fix. As for rattles, we had a little noise from the dash, but that only took a drop of glue and few minutes of time. It's by far one of the easiest vehicles to drive. It handles turns really well, and its never hard to make a sharp turn. Like I said, it accelerates/handles really well for a Jeep thats 10 years old with about 100k miles. The style of the GC is one of the best designs. It's small, but the interior room is far bigger then any friend's cars or pickups. The trunk space is plenty, even with a spare. There's more then enough room for five adults. Mileage has been everything but a problem. Seeing as it is an SUV and off-road Jeep, we knew we weren't going to be seeing any amazing mileage. But so far, about 20-21 mpg with mostly highway and about average city driving. Which is very very good compared to what we were expecting. For the value of what we payed and what we got, I wouldn't have gone any other way. It's a Jeep thing, you know the rest.

Powerful engine and smooth on or off the road.

Weakness:

Rotors warp easily and often. Electric solenoids are undependable Incredible gas hog

It looked like a dream vehicle upon purchase. My Jeep is an 8 cylinder and uses gas like you can't believe (14.5 mpg). Jeep should be arraigned for not telling consumers that this model has a serious rotor problem. I know many other Jeep owners that have the exact problem where the rotors wear and make noises and drags as you come to a stop. By the time it it had 30,000 miles, It had been in the shop 4 times. Three of those times were for power lock failures. Both front radio speakers broke. The rear wiper motor burned out and the hood strut pistons are shot, all while still under warranty. The bottom line is that it looks and runs great but inside it is an insecure vehicle waiting to fall apart at the slightest whim. I will only buy foreign cars till the day I die. I have 2 Toyota trucks with as many miles as the Jeep and they have not been in the shop once since the day I bought them both 3 years ago.

rotors emmissions control poor gas mileage steering wheel brakes

It has given me nothing but problems. Had to purchase new rotors after 40,000 miles. The malfunction light comes on all the time. Poor gas mileage. It drinks like a horse. After having it for 5,000 miles, I began to hear noises when I made a sharp right turn. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a recall on some part, got no good explanation. Seems as though the malfunction light comes on after I make a 200-300 mile trip. My warranty is out so its gonna cost me an arm and a leg to keep this thing on the road. I owe to much money on it, to trade. I will not buy another jeep

Design, Looks, Strong V8, very capable 4 wheel drive.

Weakness:

Brake rotors, electric door failures, power window failure, fuel delivery system, front axle binding due to wrong viscosity installed by Jeep.

Vehicle was very appealing upon purchase. Thank god for the warranty period to fix the gremlins. However even after 3 years and 36K miles, the same problems occur with NO dealer support or from Diamler. Front rotors were replaced every 8-10K miles. Now on our 4th set @ 41K miles Excessive cranking times from fuel regulator failure, 2 power door locks stopped working. Poor OEM tires

Weak hood struts

I have recently purchased my Jeep and I have had only one problem. Shortly after I bought it, the hood struts failed. This is obviously a pain because they are so expensive ($40 ea) and you have to prop the hood up with a screwdriver. Other than that I am very with my Jeep. The power is good out of a six cylinder and the ride quality is superb. I am also really impressed with the looks and comfort.

Great 4-wheel drive. Great ride and seems to be strong vehicle.

Weakness:

Transmission problems, seats are breaking down, coating coming off of emblems, coating coming off of door handles. Shifter cable broke. Daimler Chrysler was aware this was a problem because when we called them, they new what the problem was. Transmission makes a terrible clicking sound.

I love the ride, can deal with the gas mileage. However, you do not get what you pay for. These vehicles do not hold their value. Right before warranty ran out, had to have valve body replaced. Thank Goodness for warranty. Now I have no warranty. All of the covering on the emblems is coming off, leaving them "yucky" looking. The coating on the door handle on the driver's side is coming off. The Jeep actually would not start one day. I put in neutral and whola, it started. Luckily the same day, my husband was with me. We were in traffic, foot on brake and the thing started going forward. We were on a little incline. He put in park and noticed the shifter was freely moving back and forth. The shifter cable had broke. This Jeep only has about 45,000 miles on it. I drive it daily. Had this been my son and I, we would have been stranded. My husband had to crawl under it and change the cable by hand manually. Also, the transmission makes a terrible clicking sound. It is almost embarassing while at a drive through. They say it is normal. My husband says not. I have also had to replace all tail light bulbs as they had alreaady blowed. I am still thinking if there is anything else. I don't quite think so yet. I want to trade this thing off but my husband says we will just lose money we paid down as a down payment. Would I buy Jeep again? Maybe. I do love the vehicle, the ride and the look, but as far as dependable, my husband has a GMC truck that has about 200,000 miles on it and it has been more dependable so far. If I did buy Jeep, purchase as much warranty and cover it up in warranty, and hope you get a good service department.

Cool to have the Quadra Trac II and also 4LOW. I have not got to 4wd off road her yet.. but trust me I will here very shortly. I read allot of reviews on here about this GC before purchase and I notice alot of complaints... so what I did for the piece of mind... I got the Xtended 100K/7 year warrenty. Hopefully will never have to use it,, but if I have to,,, there is my secure piece of mind. Avg hwy gas mileage I got is about 18 miles per gallon. city/hwy mix... about 17. The I6 is peppy and I pull an 3000lbs ski boat. no regrets. Love this compact SUV... oh and its an Jeep Thing!
