Strength:

Excellent in snow banks. You can park this anywhere. Fully loaded package offers great options & comfort. Nice looking vehicule.

Weakness:

Terrible gas milage. Very cramped in the rear. The rear doors are very narrow, it is hard to get in. Does not handle well in snow even on 4 wheels.

This truck is affordable. It pretty much is worth the money except that in snow it slips around. I'm not an expert on cars but for a four wheel drive it should handle better. You won't get stuck anywhere, and off roading is a joy, but for day to day use in a snowy climate I think a lower profile truck would preform better.
All around I would recommed it. The fully equiped package is very comfortable with minimal bumpiness.

Strength:

Acceleration -- Like a bat when you need it to be.
User-friendly controls.
Command-Trac transmission, with full time 4-wheel if wanted.
The look. The look. The look!

Weakness:

Mileage -- Appalling. 14.2 in suburban Pittsburgh. 20.0 on the roaad.
Initial price.
Insurance cost.
Back seats for Singer's Midgets only.
Weirdly oriented driver's seat.
Cold engine roar.
Rough, choppy ride.

The Cherokee is a little like a racy, slightly disreputable friend -- exciting to be around, but sometimes you wonder if he's worth all the hassle. Still, he IS exciting to be around.

Strength:

Power, great looks, reliable, great offroad capability, excellent in snow, easy to use 4wd, holds its value.

Weakness:

Paintjob,no cup holders, could use a bit more cargo room, noisy at freeway speeds, a bumpy ride, messy oil changes.

I love this thing. I have been told that 91' and 92' cherokees are the best year to buy, and so far I can not say any different. My jeep has almost 100k miles on it and it still runs like a champ. The interior and leather seats still look new. I take it skiing every weekend during the winter(several road trips as well), and take it into the mountains every weekend during the summer. It sees alot of 4wd time. The power of the 4.0L six is plenty for almost all aplications. I even towed my 4000 pound boat and trailer with this thing, it over heated a bit but never faultered. I have not been very kind to my jeep and it hasn't let me down yet. The only thing that has really disapointed me is the paint job. This year of cherokee has clearcoat problems and almost all that I have seen have paint that has been oxidized. I bought this jeep from my parents a year ago for 3/4 of what it was worth($11,000-$12,000) but I would not sell it for twice that much, this car is just to much of a gem to let go. Once I get it repainted I hope to use and abuse it for several years to come.

Engine Power and acceleration.
Indestructible

Weakness:

Noisy... but, I like the loud sound of the engine on acceleration.

Great SUV. Have driven many... have quite a few friends with SUV's. The Cherokee is easily my favorite. Prefer even to big brother Grand. Absolutely indestructible. I can drive this thing over or through anything. And, unlike most, I took mine off road quite a few times. Sold it not too long ago, it was a 94 Sport, and I miss it.

Strength:

Power. 4WD. Price. Easy oil-change.

Weakness:

Leg-room. Cheap plastic interior. Gas mileage.

Ive had my Cherokee Sport for 2 years and it's been fine. I take care of it maintenance-wise and no problems mechanically. I've also worked it. I pull a 2500lb trailer, take it offroad(including the deep sands of Hatteras, perfect in snow) and heavy-foot it in traffic, and it's held up fine. Not the best choice for 6'3" drivers. Good frame, body, engine, trany and anything else mechanical. Interior gets low points for cheap plastic crap(but I guess that saved me some $$). Had to take it in for a problem with the instrument panel and under-engine mud-guard.
Bad gas mileage.
Just take care of it(regular maintenance) and use common-sense and you can abuse your Cherokee for many miles. The problems I've had were offset by the price.

Strength:

Price, looks, power

Weakness:

wind noise, engine noise on acceleration, poor speakers

My biggest concern when buying this vehicle was past reliability. Owned a Nissan Pathfinder for 3 years (55,000 miles) without one single problem. Only cost was gas, oil changes and 2 new tires. This is my first American car ( 7 total). We'll see if it holds up like my past imports. So far so good. I'm pleased with the performance and even the gas milage. I don't know whether I drive like an old lady or what but I have been averaging 18 in the city and 25 on the hwy. Compared to my Nissan (13 city, 17 hwy) it's great. The advantage to this SUV over others in its class is definitely power. The disandvantage is wind noise on the hwy and the engine roars like a lion an acceleration. Classic and Limited models were far superior than the Sport. Granted they cost more but well worth the extra $.

Strength:

Classic, rugged looks that will never go out of style, utility

Weakness:

Engineering, quality control, parts quality--lack of

I was ready for a big change from sports coupes, so I jumped to the SUV bandwagon with my 2 door SE. Liked it at first, but within the first year I had a list of parts replaced under warranty that must set a new record: fuel pump (4K mi), both rear shocks/springs, window washer reservoir, radio repaired twice, crank sensor replaced, rear end slack/clanks, and seals around front doors. Since that first year the parade has continued: TWO more crank sensors, cruise control fritzed, power steering pump replaced (no warranty), thermostat out, a/c-alternator bracket broken off, and cracked block/exhaust manifold studs (not covered by recall). Whew. I get depressed just writing about it! (Oh yeah, I got two thin spots on the hood that will probably peel in the next year.) I really tried to like this vehicle. But it and the dealer just won't let me. The dealer has no sympathy and I have no love or patience left. Anybody want to buy a good Jeep?

Acceleration, Handling.

Weakness:

Brakes, alignment, speedometer. Dealer Service.

Biggest pain in the neck I have ever bought. I should have spent the extra $5K for another explorer.

Alignment worked on 6 times before the third dealer noticed the steering box was faulty. Brakes worked on 8 times and are still pulling after 2 years and 22,000 miles. Speedometer worked on 3 times and still sticks in the morning. I'm fed up and attempting to get a buy back.

gas, gas, gas, but better milage that the new xterra! Map pockets would be nice too.

This is one great SUV! Once you drive 'em all and start comparing prices, this one stands out. It can actually go off road too, unlike the Ford Exploder. Hope to own it for many, many years to come.

Not too expensive, fairly reliable for 12 year old SUV, comfortable, Accepts a standard Yakama roof rack on the rain gutters.

Weakness:

Not alot of cargo room.

I bought this truck used in 92. I paid about $8000. Ive had some work done to it in the past 8 years but just stuff that would be expected for a vehicle with 140,000 miles. (clutch, radiator, serpentine belt, brakes, muffler, etc)Its a 4L with a manual trans (IMHO a good set up). It still starts up, runs, tows, and hauls stuff. It still looks good too. I know they sometimes have a bad rep for dependability, but I guess I got a good one. Ive been offered $4500 recently, but I cant justify selling it and getting into payments on somthing newer. Its old, but it still works.
