Strength:

Overall look of the vehicle

Weakness:

Purchased in June of 2000, have allready had the rotors go bad, the check engine light came on at 5800 miles, new spark plugs, the back brakes have allready gone out of adjustment, paint problems on hood. Terrible service from dealer. Tried to blame the paint problem on environmental factors, spent months arguing with dealer. They finally painted it as a good will gesture under warranty, but painted it the wrong color. It was repainted to satisfaction finally. This so called 5 star dealer does not stand behind their product and does not even have a body shop at their site. They use a Toyota dealer!!!

I would not recommend this vehicle unless you don't mind it being in the shop all the time. I bought it because I thought it would be a reliable SUV. I don't think it handles that well in snow either, my cavalier goes better than this Jeep.

And I highly do not recommend Bill Cutrone Chrysler Plymouth Jeep.

And don't bother to call Chrysler Corporation direct if you have a problem, because they don't care either.

Would never buy Chrysler again. Will stick with GM automobiles. They are reliable and have a much better level of service. They stand behind the products they make.

Strength:

agile, easier to park and shorter turning radious than the 95 Saturn SL2 we traded. Higher driving position. Nearly the only seats my wife can stand to sit in for long periods of time after her back surgery. POWER! Pulls a 3500lb trailer with no problems.

Weakness:

Averages between 17 and 19 MPG on highway. Hit 21 MPG once. Only 14 while pulling the camper. Rear cargo area cramped. Rear seat OK for kids.

Puts the SPORT in SUV. I have 42000 miles with no problems(Rear diff noise found be dealership at 30000 mile service). Changed out under warranty. After some investigation I found that several Jeeps from 1998 to 2001 were having this problem. The dealer tech. said that he was changing 2 or 3 a week. This vehicle is not for everyone. If you like utility, power, and ruggedness this is for you. If you want boulevard cush, look elsewhere.
My wife uses the Jeep mainly. I can't get it away from her. As she says "I USE this car more than any other car we have owned". Cost thousands less than comparable competition. Classic looks, power, not a pretentious vehicle like the Explorer. Try taking each off road if you don't believe me, I have.

Runs circles around Explorers even the V8 ones. Easier to drive in traffic than a Mitsubishi Montero. Too many rentals to remember.

Strength:

Clasic Looks
Good Size for around town and performance
easy to manouver
Quite capable in std trim(Disconnecting front swaybar offroad does make big difference)
1994 model NON Air Bag (So a really great aftermarket wooden/leather Steering wheel can be fitted no dramas)

Weakness:

Sagging suspension
spare wheel inside
price of parts?{genuine}
limited availability aftermarket parts(Aust.)
ground clearance

Just completed trip to central Australia(7500Km return,3500KmDIRT in 12 days)and was very happy with performance and reliability.Sagging Suspension is now worse as we were towing camper trailer and it got a work out,but still handling was very good and predictable on dirt(even in 2WD) at speed(80-120kmh).Did develop quite a few rattles which most have now been fixed.
It is no where near the Rangie but they are classes apart to start with,I am more than happy with this vehicle,IT was/is a very low Km Jeep with a GENUINE and verified 41000K when purched 18 months ago (now 62000K's)Just keep up the servicing and I think Jeeps are A1.

Strength:

Solid truck, awesome on the beach, light weight, good power/weight ratio (I-6 auto Selec-Trac 4WD only in Australia, apart from diesel 5 speed), excellent turning circle, good brakes (despite rear drums), accessibility to engine bay, reasonable tyre wear, easy servicing.

Weakness:

Paintwork very poor. I mean, how can you stuff up plain black paint?? Cannot find a comfortable driving position. Fuel consumption is a bit ordinary at 15 litres per 100 km. Back seat leg-room is a joke, except for kids. Ergonomics - where do I start??? The Selec-Trac goes from 2WD to 4WD part-time (for fixed 4WD) and then to full-time 4WD, and then to low range. Well, that's how it's supposed to go, but on most occasions your selector is in say 4WD full-time, but it's really in 4WD part-time, and you can't really negotiate tight turns on bitumen like that...
It's got me buggered why it's set up like that - it really should go from 2WD to full-time 4WD to 4WD part-time to low range.
Lousy right-hand-drive conversion, as the drive selector is still on the left hand side of the cabin, and it's a bit of a reach.
The HVAC controls, at least in a pre-1997 model, are absolutely incomprehensible.... you can't have ventilation without fan-forced air! Air-con is ineffective in the tropics, and the fan noise is terrible.
The six door mounted switches for locks, windows etc are terrible... after four years, I'm STILL pressing the wrong buttons!
Dreadful rear carrying capacity, especially with spare tyre carried inboard.
Cost of parts (in Australia) is about 3x the cost of an equivalent Toyota part.

I think the Jeep is teriffic, apart from the ergonomics issues. Some of those have been fixed in the 1997 on models (such as HVAC and electronics). I'd recommend it as a serious off-roader than you can still drive every day, but I wouldn't recommend it as a round town car substitute.

Strength:

Overall it's been a good truck. Yes, truck. Lots of power, 4-wheel drive is great, yet small enough to maneuver around obstacles.

Weakness:

Expect bumpy ride (even with Limited), and cabin noise. Jumpy suspension on tight turns.

Sold Pathfinder with 49K miles and not a single problem. My brother still has the 4-runner with 323K miles and still going strong. Original factory engine and trans. The Cherokee only has 18k on it but no problems of anykind. Time will tell on reliabilty but happy with it so far. I'm happy with the Cherokee and hope to keep it for a long time.

Strength:

Police issue 4.0 Litre, upgraded Transmission, upgraded suspension, full skid plattes, lots of 4X4 options(2 wheel, fulltime, partime, low), handles great on and offroad, doesn't just fall apart, just the best where ever it goes. Can't forget the Spot Light.

Weakness:

Likes to eat brake pads and rotors needs replacment about once every 2mo , plastic back seat, but I never sit back there anyway, NO A/C in the Polce Issue so gives more power to where it counts, the wheeles.

It goes and I mean goes, 135 mph. It goes everywhere from the rocky offroad passes of Colorado to the slick rock of Moab, and of course the weekly boring Aspen - Boulder I-70 trip. Built to take serious abuse and it does it well. Had many people ask how they could get one or wanted to buy that one, so if you find one don't let go of it. I have many Jeeps, 98 grand Cherokee, 99 Grand Cherokee, 00 Cherokee, but this is the fun one! Don't try that speed in a regular SUV, this was built with speed in mind.

Strength:

4.0L engine is an indestructable serious torque producing engine. Off road prowess, inexpensive. Classic original. 21mpg in mixed driving.

Weakness:

I've heard of other Cherokees' warping rotors, so I'd recommend good aftermarket rotors(such as Stillen). Small backseat, wind noise at high speeds. 4.0L engine is a little noisy at full throttle.

I originally leased this vehicle, but enjoy it so much, that I've bought out the lease, and plan on keeping it. This 4.0L/5speed Cherokee is great. I've put 52,000 miles on it in two years, and have had the rotors replaced(faulty) under warrantee. That's the only problem it's had. I'd recommend the 'Up Country' option. Heavy duty springs/shocks, trac-loc differential, heavy duty engine cooling, and other goodies make it worthwile. On and off road handling/ability will whip any other SUV in the same price range, and most costing 15 grand more. I considered a 4Runner, but not anymore. 4.0L engine stronger and more reliable than the Toyota V6. Better acceleration, handling, and just creeps over off road terrain.

1994 Toyota truck, 1993 Ranger XLT, 1995 Wrangler. OK, only slightly similar, but the Cherokee is more comfortable than the Wrangler, and more solidly built than my Toyota rattle trap.

Great acceleration for a UTILITY(before pre-trendy expeditions and explorers, these were called just plain utility, not sport utility) vehicle and awesome off road ability

Weakness:

repairs, ive had to make a lot, but this is probably due to the fact that it has 185k miles and i got it from an abandoned car auction

Well, only spending 300 it was definately worth every penny, however, i would not spend over 6k for ANY year jeep unless you planned to actually off road them

Strength:

I have driven the wheels off this Jeep. It had 45 on the clock when I got and 130,000 later it has never let me down. The 4.0 / 6 is strong as an ox and gets suprisingly good gas mileage for an SUV. Flip down the seats and the big square rear hatch will swallow almost anything. I've hauled desks and four drawer file cabinets. It has been an extremely good car.

Weakness:

Had a short in the driver's side door - flip the power locks with the door open and it'd blow a fuse. The dealer fixed it quickly and earned my future business at the service desk.

Slight legroom in the back seat.

I can't recommend this car strongly enough. I was a life long Chevrolet man but this vehicle sold me on the Chrysler Co. So much so that I bought a Dodge pickup and it's been just as good as the Jeep!

And it has a real budget price for the category. Before you buy a smaller Rav4 or a Honda - drive the Jeep

I have had my Jeep for a few months now, it has 146,ooo miles on it and i have had no major problems and just a few minor problems. It handels well on the road. It's real fun to drive even though it is alittle rough. somewhat good gas mileage. And even though it is 7 years old it still looks real good.

Weakness:

It does get alittle loud the faster you drive. And when taking turns at fast speeds, well you can't. But that is with alot of SUV's!

I would recommend this vehicle because it is reliable and it last for a long time. It is for the most part roomy. I don't know about how it handels off road because mine is only a 2 wheel drive. But it is a decent looking vehicle and it will last for a long time. It is not to fancy but it really doesn't need to be. It is just over all a good vehicle. And I hope when i have to get something new i will be able to afford another one.
