Strength:

Great engine, I can burn almost every car in the parking lot at school--real power.
Off road excellent, Reliable, Cheap to fix. Obviously something because you see them everywhere.

Weakness:

Brakes on mine are hard to press and a little weak. (compared to other truck types) Brakes are still massive compared to little import things.
factory paint deteriorated bad. You see them everywhere.

The bad paint on mine is going to be repainted from grey to menacing black with all the labels stripped off. The already powerful engine in it gets real power boosts just because I put K&N air filter and for the exhaust I put a cherry bomb glass pack-it really screams becaus the stock sound is already loud. The engine is so powerful that if I brake and accelerate at the same time the car twists with the engine. What I don't get is all those import SUV ratings-- i see them with like 350 hp and half the weight of my Cherokee and slick styling guess what? 0-60 in a blazing 12 seconds. I'll settle for my 7.9 sec that only took me $300 of bolt on power add-ons. You don't need to spend a gazillion dollars on a 1 liter engine in a huge import suv to "burn" rubber--hello that's what large engines are for! I have no problems except that untill the car warms up I get 11 mpg, warm i get 14.5 city and 18 hwy. Good because i run bigger tires. I'm the only one in school who can say I don't slow down for speed bumps or dips, thats great suspension but i get a crunching noise from one corner of the car from the bump stops. if taken care of it is one of the best cars ever made--really ahead of its time, i mean who could have predicted the suv boom.
Anyone looking for a great car, not a miracle machine, should consider a Cherokee. My friends are always surprised about the performance, it always exceeds expectations, everyone thinks it's slow untill they see it pass them up.

Strength:

American made (80%), Good looks, decent price, one of the few SUV's with a decent 5-spd, Inline-6 is a joy to change sparkplugs, tight turning radius, ok handling on asphalt.

Weakness:

Inside spare tire (blocks some rear view, takes up space), cheesy dash, some OME shock squeaks, stiff clutch, , back seat is too small(I'm 6'3"), lack of good quality aftermarket accessories (check out Custom 4x4 Fabrication and Rocky-Road.com, though!)

I've had nothing but good luck with the Jeep, my first new vehicle (knock on wood.) It has 80,000 highway and commuter miles on it, and I haven't replaced anything major yet (just routine maintenance stuff). Sure, it rides a little rough, but when winter rolls around, I'm confident that I can get anywhere I need to go. The I-6 engine (one of the oldest, most trusted on the market) may not be the fastest, but it just keeps going. I would have liked to get the cruise control for longer trips and power windows/locks option but in all, I can't complain. I try not to push the engine (upshift @ 2000 RPM, no stoplight "shootouts")

I don't do much off-roading (to and from work, hunting, etc), and my review isn't based on the fact that I'm enamored by Jeeps. I've just had a positive experience with the vehicle, and would definitely recommend one to a person looking for a reliable small-ish 4x4 that can get you from Point A to Point B. I've had very few repair bills...if you like the classic looks, you've got lots of used ones to choose from. Go for it!

To the Jeep family (CJ, TJ, ZJ, et al)---I'm counting on you to "give the wave" and and a hand "in need"...we XJ'ers are Jeepers, too! TK

You can't beat a Jeep, thats for sure. Just pure power in the low end, great acceleration, excellent 4WD features, just a pleasure to own.

Weakness:

Back seat is cramped, but i hate riding with more than one person anyway.

Look, its not an undestructable vehicle, no car, except for maybe the army hummer, is. But if you want a dependable off-road vehicle with plenty of room to customize ( if off-roading is your thing ), its your car. Just a beauty in chili-pepper red, too, buti dont think they make that color any more.

Strength:

The straight 6, 4.0 has balls but a 140hp 91 acura integra just wasted me at a stoplight encounter. now, a moped with 2 flat tires and an empty tank of gas could pass me on the road.

Weakness:

Damn well everything. from customer service to the poor electronics this suv has to offer. The only highlight is the engine. The body squeaks so bad we had to put traps and poisin inside at night because we thought there was a family of rats and mice setting up house. starting the damn thing takes like 2 minutes of gas pumping and key turning, even when the thing was brand new. Almost like trying to start a dirt bike with the choke on all the time. almost impossible. Had to collect geckos to clean off the front windshield. Darn thing so straight up that no matter where we went, moths and flies were always being splattered on it. and the stock tires were good for nothing. lasted only like a year of light off-roading. at least it made a good rest stop for all of the neighborhood dogs. and the stock ecu was good for nothing. its already fried. how, we do not know. even a 60's willys jeep has a better computer than this junk. Oh wait a minute, a willys does not need an ecu. too bad jeep couldn't have figured that out when they made the cherokee.

unless you want to end up stranded on the side of the road i highly discourage you to even consider this piece of cra_. buy a go cart, less features but way more trustworthy than this garbage. ours died in less than 5 years. my pet lizard lived longer than this jeep. and off-road capability. lets just say an 18 wheeler probably could do more off roading and get a little farther in the mud than this trash. Buy it if you want a statue in front of the house.

Strong Engine. Durable Design. Only real towing vehicle in its class.
Really reliable. Great Truck.

Weakness:

None

I'd recommend this a a first choice for someone that wanted a real tough and durable truck for towing. This is definitely a "Man's Truck" and not a luxury vehicle. Don't expect a silky smooth quiet ride. The ride is rough. The vehicle is noisy. The engine runs and sounds rough. It squeaks and groans. I love it. Jeeps rules.

Strength:

Rugged, timeless looks, powerful engine, nice gearbox, stability in snow, no-nonsense construction and purpose.

Weakness:

Bad(17 hiway) mpg, bad front seats (can't adjust to comfortable position and still reach shift knob), scary "vibration" on hard acceleration - drivetrain for sure - feels/sounds like a U-joint is going out. Currently 957 miles.

I really like this car. Not trendy; just purposeful and straight forward. Traded a 99 Wrangler SE(very good car; very underpowered). I considered everything from an XTerra to a BMW 330ix. I bought this JC because of it's timeless looks, durable reputation and off-road capability. I am not some tinhorn who wanted a 4x4 just because I live in the mountains of Colorado.. I wanted a tough utility vehicle that'll get me where I want to go both on the highway and bouncing through the hills. I believe I found that in the Cherokee. This vibration issue has been mentioned in here before... Anybody have any ideas?? email me at tcijeff56293@yahoo.com! Also, the car seems to be well put together (for the moment) with no rattles yet. The clutch is nice, the brakes fair (too much frontal dive), and the gearbox downright buttery. The engine kindof makes a racket at higher revs, but it sounds cool to me. Still trying to get used to upshifting at around 2,000 rpm - what a torquey engine! The windows are power and go up and down fast. Haven't been off-road yet (still breaking in) but I have no doubts it'll be fine. IMPORTANT NOTE: Cherokee 5-spds have been permanently discontinued, Jeep is not taking orders for any Cherokees at all anymore. I had to travel 2 states away to find this one. I get the distinct impression from Chrysler and from the dealership that Cherokees are about to be permanently offed... Better hurry if you want one!

Strength:

Powerful engine, the car has a nice size, not to big not to small. Very reliable and very good off road and in snow.

Weakness:

Interior mounted spare tire, gas mileage

This is my second cherokee and it has 270'000K on the clock and is still running like new. I need it every day and it will start without problems even in the coldest canadian winternights. I also use it to transport my dogsled team and drive a lot on remote and snowcovered roads and the Jeep never let me down. The only time I got stuck was in a 3ft high snowdrift and i knew it would happen, but I had to try.
Don't expect the jeep to be a limousine, put some decent tires on and you have a real multi utility vehicle that will get the job done everytime.

Strength:

PRICE, handling (Upcountry option seems to improve handling), acceleration, pulling power, looks, ease of routine maintenance, and off-road performance.

Weakness:

Gas mileage (what do you expect with an SUV?), noisy (wind/transmission) at high speeds, plastic dashboard looks cheap, spare tire located in rear storage compartment limits cargo carrying capacity (I plan to purchase a spare tire rear mount kit), rear window does not open separately like most other SUV's. It used to shimmy VERY badly if we hit a small pothole at high speeds (dealer replaced the steering damper and it hasn't happened since).

Around $22,000 (Upcountry option, towing option, keyless entry, power windows, selectrac 4x4, automatic transmission). A fair price.

Strength:

4.0 litre high output provides good acceleration and good torque. Better off-road than every other SUV. Great Price. Good looks. Handles like a sports car because of its stiff suspension. Very fast, my dad pulled away from a sports car on a backroad. Good Reliability. Everything

Weakness:

Uncomfortable seating position(can't get in the exact position you want to). Tight back seat, but is liveable. Suspension is a little harsh on rough roads. Nothing else I don't like about it.

Paid 9500 for a fully loaded country model. Fastest SUV I have ever driven. I would recommend it to anyone who likes off road prowess in a sports car package. Don't get it if you are going to have a family bigger than four. But for a single person, it handles and accelerates like a sports car, won't find any other SUV more fun than the Cherokee.
