Strength:

Always gets me where I want to go no matter what is inbetween me and my destination. Safe, affordable and a great off-roading vehicle.

Weakness:

slight overheating problem that can be completely solved by a sub $100 after market 3 row radiator.

Great vehicle! The Jeep Cherokee has gotten me through burning deserts, blinding blizzards and when I am off-roading, has gotten me through the biggest mudpits and over the largest boulders. The 4.0L I6 always seems to have enough power to push me up hills and over the hardest off-roading obsticles. My Jeep has survied through 2 accidents (neither my fault :}) without any major damage, while the other cars where totaled. This Jeep definetly lives up to the Jeep name. Although the Jeep Cherokee lacks some of the luxury options that some of today's SUV have, the Jeep Cherokee was not ment to have a high level of luxury, but to get you where you need to go no matter what you have to drive though or over. If you want luxury, buy a land rover, and call someone with a Jeep to get you unstuck when you go off-roading.

The cheokee is the best midsize SUV that I have ever driven. It is especialy better than the Ford Explorer that couldn't perform off-road at all.

Ride (but if you want a car buy one)

My girlfriend purchased the Jeep because of reputation. No other suv performs or lasts like a Jeep! I myself have had a number of Jeeps and all were outstanding vehicles! Chrysler has made a great error but I am sure they will find this out down the road. I would not recommend another suv to anyone who would listen to reason. We fourwheel and up to this spring the Cherokee was stock with bald tires and it still never left us stranded. We also recieve alot of snow and I have been out when the only other vehicle out was a plow truck. In closing if you get a chance to pick up a Cherokee do it you won't regret it!!

Strength:

Excellent size, 4-door availability, reliable 6-cylinder engine, solid beam axles (good for off-road), gas mileage for a truck (good), good parts availability, good room inside with the seat down. Fuel injection, very good.

Weakness:

uncomfortable front seats (in my opinion), limited space in the engine compartment makes the engine run a little hot on warm days. Some parts are expensive to buy. Rear cargo area is compromised by having the spare tire inside (minor).

I bought this in a hurry, and I don't like trucks. However, I love this Jeep. It is the perfect size, big enough to carry 5 average size people (and their stuff), but small enough to be very easy to park and manoeuver. I have 4 wheel drive (with a full-time option). In the rain and the snow, the Jeep performs flawlessly, excellent traction with limited slip rear differential. I should have gotten a 4WD a long time ago. I don't like automatic transmissions, but the AW4 is a very good sturdy unit, and I wanted the full towing capacity allowed (like 5000 pounds with a class III receiver). For a big boxy wagon, it gets very good gas mileage (16 city, 23 Hwy). The six cylinder engine is very reliable and I've only rarely had to have a mechanic look at it (front harmonic balancer). Lastly, the 4.0L runs very clean. With 125,000 miles on it, it runs a little cleaner now than it did when new.

I used to have a Chevy truck: bigger, gas hungry, more difficult to manoeuver in traffic, but had a bigger cargo area. I've driven Chevy Vans, more interiour room, better seats, poor off-road capability, awful gas mileage, NO real engine access, very poor gas mileage. About the only thing that beats my Jeep is my Harley Davidson Electraglide.

Strength:

Durability, dependability, can go anywhere

Weakness:

Headliner started to fall after around 7 years and some plastic pieces inside have cracked. Also a problem with hydroplaning which I've never experienced with sedans.

The best vehicle I've ever owned. With 155,000 miles on it and no problems ever it could go at least another 100,000 I'm sure. I bought it new 10 years ago and it is worth keeping. Even without the positraction option I have put it in 4WD low in sand and it handled just fine.

Beats all other vehicles hands down!! The cost is considerably less than similar SUVs for a great value. I LOVE my Jeep!

Strength:

I-6 engine is one awesome engine w/ lots of hp and low-end torque. 4x4 system is second to none. In stock form, it has good ground clearance and is a very capable 4x4. Aftermarket parts are plentiful for easy modifications.

Weakness:

Wind noise.

I've owned this vehicle new since Nov 1999. It has exceeded my expectations in every conceivable way. It is one of the most reliable vehicles around which is why it stayed in production so long 1984-2001. Its too bad Daimler-Crysler discontinued the Cherokee in favor of a less capable vehicle. I love this vehicle and plan on keeping it for a very long time. I highly recommend the Cherokee, and I would buy another one if I could afford it.

I've driven both Explorers and a hummer off-road, and the Jeep Cherokee is overall a better all-round 4x4. Much more capable than the Explorer.

Strength:

Strong motor, nice size for any activity, very capable off road.

Weakness:

Needs repairs too often once the miles start to add up.

Even after I had my Jeep for a year or two I still didn't realize what an amazing vehicle it was. It turns out that Jeeps are some of the most capable 4x4's to come off of a factory assembly line. I started taking it offroad and couldn't believe how well it handled. I made a few upgrades (which are readily available) and now I love it better than ever. I plan for my next car to be a Jeep too (not a Liberty though because it's not worthy of wearing the Jeep badge). The cherokee has a block that will run well past 200,000 miles as long as its regularly serviced but I have had a couple problems with electrical components (i.e. crank shaft sensor, fuel pump regulator, power door locks/windows). Other than that it has been a great car (you won't believe the turning radius on these until you drive one). Despite the so-so fuel economy I would buy another of these in an instant.

A solid axle car (like the cherokee) will leave any independent front suspension vehicle in the dust if you ever take it off the pavement. But even on the road I love the way it drives and it turns sharper than any other car I've rode in (except a Jeep wrangler).

Gosh, where do I start, The easy repairability? The hugh after-market? The awesome 4X capability that is second to none?

Weakness:

Weakness?

I have found the Jeep Cherokee to be one of the most forgiving and easily repaired vehicles available. While it may not be for everyone, it is for those that like to tinker without getting an electronics degree. Lets face it, all vehicles will need repaired. Question is, how much will it cost, can you do it yourself, how available are the parts. Get the picture?

Strength:

- Power...I love my 4.0 High Output. This baby hauls!
- Off-road capability.
- Size, it's perfect, not to big and not to small.
- Looks!! With 4.5" of lift and 31" tires and the stock paint still lookin like new, my car is pimp looking! Chicks dig it.

Weakness:

- Road noise...better learn how to yell!
- Interior squeeks and rattles.
- The imfamous "knocking" fo the 4.0's, it's nothing major so I hear but it does get annoying.
- Quality control of the 1993 model years do to Jeep paying more attention to the Grand Cherokee. Bastards!

I've loved the Cherokee ever since I saw one lifted in a 4 wheel drive magazine about 3 years ago. Ever since that, I told myself I was going to get one. After driving my 1990 (P.O.S.) wrangler for about a year and a half and saving my pennies, I put down like $3000 and got a loan from the credit union to get a 1993 Jeep Cherokee (base model). When I first saw it, I automatically fell in love again. Everything seemed to be running perfectly until owning it for a few months, the problems started showing up. They were pretty much minor and since I will never ever take my car to a dealership, I fixed most of the problems myself. Still to this day, my Jeep still has it's quirks but i've come down to the fact that it's a "Jeep Thing" and i've accepted most of the quirks such as a "squeaking" noise that I can't pinpoint nor get rid of that's near the glove box, my stearing box clunking, but that's probably because I have 31" tires and I actually take my jeep offroading, faulty crankshaft position sensor that would make my jeep stall out without any notice, a cracked exhaust manifold..but that got fixed with a header (more power!!!), and a water pump that started making a really ugly grinding noise. Oh ya...can't forget about the leacky valve cover and rear main seal, both I fixed myself and saved myself a few bucks. Other than that I am very pleased with my jeep and wouldn't trade it in for anything else, i'm one of those "loyal" cherokee owners.

Had a 1990 Jeep Wrangler that needed help. The paint was oxidized, the seats were torn, slower than hell with the 4 cylinder. But I knew it would get me from point A to point B without a worry. At 167,000...still ran 10w-30 (synthetic) and it didn't burn a drop of oil. But I still love my Cherokee, much more creature comforts and 116,000 on my engine running 10w-30 synthetic, I dont even have to add a quart of oil in between oil changes.

Strong engine, somewhat good cargo space, good off road

Weakness:

BAD PAINT! the clearcoat is coming on on the hood and roof, but i guess that only happens to the 90's. Also, the catalytic converter bangs like hell on the crossmember, but thats not Jeep's fault, thats bad work by the garage.

Excellent SUV. Rugged, yet as comfortable on the highway as it is in the woods. Good stock for offroading, good for hauling some things. Strong 4.0 Inline V6, 190 horses. Excellent SUV, better than anything out there. Jeep is stupid to discontinue it.
