Strength:

Absolutely impeccable handling in all conditions. Rides nice and stiff, like any good sports car or race car. Off road it is a dream, handles better out of the box than almost everything that I have ever driven, and as a designer and racer of off-road race chassis, I've driven a lot. It turns a lot of heads, and even my grandparents enjoyed a ride around town in it. I read some other reviews of people saying that it didn't handle the snow well, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It is an absolute rocket on ice, deep snow or shallow snow. Too often people buy a car and think that it is going to drive itself. No car can make a bad driver any better. The recaro seats could not be any better, and there is never any lack of power, ground clearance or departure angles for clearing large obstacles. Its lack of rear visibility is its only fault, but thats why people test drive cars right? After all, it IS A CONCEPT CAR! What a great piece of engineering.
A true OFF-ROAD machine.

Weakness:

I wish it had a cooler name because about 9000 people have asked me what it is and sometimes I feel like a tool spelling out the name of my truck. It doesn't matter though, because everyone just calls it sweet after a ride.

$31,000 for the ironman and worth every penny. The mamby pamby crowd probably wont like it because of its stiff ride and the sound of the engine under acceleration, but they probably should of opted for the car like Lexus RX300, or a Mercedes or an X5 if they have the $$. This is a SWEEEEET ride, and honestly, everyone i give a ride to has been thoroghly impressed. Definitely for the engineer types, and not the desk jockeys. You have to be impressed with the fact that the Vehicross will slide in a corner before it comes even close to rolling over. Especially for a truck with a wheelbase shorter than a jeep wrangler. The in dash 6-disc changer and Yakima roof rack are nice touches too.
I test drove everything on the market, this is a true driver's machine. You will not enjoy it if you use it as a commuter only, but if you push it to its potential off-highway you will understand why this car is so great. I would pay money to see someone in a Lexus RX 300 try to follow me through the woods. That would be a laugh HA!

Fantastic vehicle. Overall performance and handling is untouched by anything in its class, or near its class since its really in a class of its own!! Overall quality and workmanship of the vehicle is first rate. Have experienced absolutely no problems or difficulties whatsoever. Performance off-road and in snow is far superior to the 4WD Cherokee that I had before it.

Incredible all around performance vehicle. Does very well off road, climbing rocks, in the mud, and autocrossing against Porsches! I have yet to find anything the vehicle can’t do well (within reason) and am extremely satified with it’s comfort, fit, and finish. Daily driving is a fun event, even in traffic. The Recaro seats are extremely comfortable.

Weakness:

As all the magazine articles have stated, the rear visibility is a bit obscured but not enough to cause major problems. Proper use of the side mirrors along with backing into parking spaces (safer in any vehicle) makes it a minor annoyance at best. Space is at a premium but in light of the sportiness of the vehicle, is to be expected. Most reviews have nit picked about issues such as these but I can honestly say NO complaints come to mind everytime I drive it.

INCREDIBLE! $30,000 shouldn’t be this much fun. Unique, futuristic, and reliable. Single adults or those who want a second car just for fun would be the ideal owners, although married couples without children would do well in it. It is easy to park and maneuver in tight spaces. Feel free to email me with any questions or visit my web site to see pictures and read about it’s adventures!

There really is no competition for this vehicle nor is it for everyone. It easily has more power than any full size suv but is such a unique vehicle that it can’t be compared. Best case would be a 4x4 Porsche, which is coming but will be bigger and certainly cost much more.

What the VehiCROSS is: An off-road capable SUV with sports car performance and handling. 0-60 in 8.8 sec.
What the VehiCROSS is not: A family vehicle that requires lots of room and easy access.

This little SUV is fun to drive. With it's 215hp/230lbs torque it doesn't need much coaxing. The name VehiCROSS implies that it can cross over from an on-road performance vehicle to an off-road SUV with 8.4 inches of ground clearance.

The engine incorporates an electronically controlled intake manifold to insure quick acceleration from a stop as well as passing on a highway. And it holds very well in the corners thanks to it's beefy suspension.

Isuzu's new Torque-on demand computerized 4WD system shifts torque from the rear wheels to the front as needed. The 12 onboard sensors tell the computer where torque is needed at any given moment and makes the adjustments in milliseconds.

These are limited production (200 per month) hand built trucks made on Japan's 2dr. Trooper chassis. But the entire drivetrain and braking system are from the much larger American 4dr. Trooper which accounts for it's excess of power and superior braking ability (60-0mph in 123ft)

There are not many options to choose from since this is a fully loaded vehicle. Only a cargo mat, roof rack or special Ironman badging are optional. My $30,000.00 bought me the options as well as all of the standard goodies such as: A/C, Cruise, Tilt, Recaro leather, Alloy wheels, P/W, PDL, P/Mirrors, Anti-theft system, 4W ABS, 4W disc brakes, 6 speaker 120 watt stereo system with in-dash 6 disc changer, TOD 4WD, 3.5L 24 valve V-6 and many more.

This highly manuverable SUV with it's 92.8 WB can not only find a parking spot but can turn a full circle in 34.1 feet! It's a narrow market niche vehicle. But oh, how well it fills that niche. It averages me 14.2 mpg combined city/highway with the EPA numbers being 15/19mpg. This VehiCROSS may not be for everyone but everyone will be turning their head to watch it as you pass by!

I like this SUV better than any vehicle I've ever owned. There's nothing else on the road like it and there is no other vehicle I'd rather own in this price range. The VX is probably not for everyone, however. Although there is plenty of room in the backseat, getting in and out should be an exception rather than a rule unless the occupants are small children.

At any rate, I highly recommend the VX to anyone who understands the limitations I describe. By and large these are things you get used to very quickly and then you enjoy both the VX and all the curious stares you get while you drive it!

Strength:

The power, excellent handling(stability), conceptual styling (menacing profile and stance), decent gas mileage (for a 4000lb truck), high-end technological stock components, loads of fun, and kick (the other guys)ass performance!!!

Weakness:

Rear-view visibility, access to the rear seats, and large blind spot over the shoulder.

Because I purchased the vehicle during its early debut to the US (April '99), I paid the price in the low 30s. To this day, it's still worth every penny! I've never owned a vehicle in which, 10 months later, I still drool everytime I get behind the wheel! Having put about 24k miles into this machine, I am quite pleased and impressed with it. On the highway, there's excellent accelleration and agility for switching lanes. On the city streets, it rides smooth and quiet knocking out potholes without much reaction. The Recarro seats add to the comfort of the ride conforming to your body like a large leather glove.

I managed to purchase a couple of after-market products that seems to remedy the lack-of visual problems. The first was a clear fish-eye lens made by Van-Eyes that works very well on the rear view window. Now backing up, parallel parking, and seeing who's behind me is possible! As for the blind spots, I purchased a couple of those small round mirrors to attach to the side mirrors and the scary lane changing is resolved.

Having owned a couple of SUVs (the '98 Honda Passport being the most recent) I've come to a conclusion that this has just got to be the most exciting and most technologically advanced SUV so far! Although, I do miss the lack of cargo/storage space that the Passport offered. And I'm sure that's a major concern that has turned away alot of people who need the space. However, Isuzu is in the make for a 4-door version of the Vehicross (with a bigger engine)that's packed with all sorts of electronic goodies like DVD players, navigational systms and such.

The only people who should seriously consider owning one of these BAD BOYS are those who buy it for what it is...a specialized compact SUV made for fun, fun, fun.

Weakness:

Rear view is difficult but managable when you utilize the extra large side mirrors.

I'm a chubby little grandmother who loves to be different. It's amazing how heads turn when I wheel around in this machine. The gray with gray and black interior is awsome. I love the ride. The car handles much better than the RAV4. I like the dash. Everything is located in a good place. And I am absolutely in love with it's "snake eye" appearance. I say go out and buy one to anyone who's not afraid to be daring, and loves to have fun. It's not a car for the young with family. It seats only four, so car seating is limited. It's also not for the conservatives who love the classic four-door sedan. I can see the appeal for the young. In fact the dealer raised his eyes quite a bit when I told him which SUV I had my eye on. I've always wanted to try a sports car, but love the ride of the SUV. The Vehicross says it all.

Makes you feel guilty that you have one and theres so few out there, not enough people shareing in the fun.

A complete Joy to drive, rain, snow, potholes, tricky roads, highway, offroad, makes no difference. It has the feel of being indestructable, the drivetrain feels to me like its geared and equiped like a military vehicle. Solid to say the least, at almost 4000lbs you woulden't believe how agile it is, and that weight adds to its strength and integrity when trashing about offroad. A absolute riot to drive, and like many others, I too can't wait for another opportunity to take it out for a spin. It draws attention, but in a ever increasing bland world I welcome the opportunity to add a little style and flare to the roads.

A wonderful blend of knock down drop dead great looks along, solid design and engineering, all brought together with far above average workmanship.

One finds a vehicle like this maybe once in a lifetime. This car will be a classic....it can and will be able to hold its own against anything for years if not decades to come.

Weakness:

As with the others, I have to cite the rearward view. But....this is a truck. Very FEW trucks have good reaview mirror clarity. Thats why you have two side-views instead of only one.

Cant really think of ANYTHING else that could be said bad about it. This is one case where everything is just about perfect!

I have never been happier with a car in my life! This thing goes through anything.....snow, mud, rain, you name it. And then begs for more.

I have owned a great number of cars and trucks in my life. This one is hands-down the best of the bunch.

One entry hereabouts (possibly two as the other clearly has disguised his name and has an axe to grind) claims all sorts of maladys that are nowhere to be found. The one source quoted is a case of a fellow who never bothered to check his oil and cant understand why his engine burnt up. Go figure!

Read the others.....40-odd people can't all be delusional simultaneously!

I am a 45 year old engineer with an even half-dozen degrees in mechanical as well as aeronautic and aerospace engineering. This is the BEST designed and engineered and most reliable vehicle I have ever known. And I have seen some real trash in my time.

(...and no, I am NOT an employee of Isuzu. Merely a VERY happy customer)
