Strength:
Good Power, tourque, Classy interior, Nice stereo, Low maintenece, Rugged tough SUV
Weakness:
MPG What a tough SUV!!! I''ve dragged my 95 trooper thru hell and back and it still drives quiet and as smooth as when I first bought it. Great for camping/skiing trips, fun for the weekends. Had it 3 years and never had one problem!!!. Been through mud and snow with normal tires that lifted Jeeps and Trucks couldn''t go!! Best SUV ever owned!!! Strength:
Looks, room, performance, comfort.
Weakness:
Gas (14-15 avg.) I am very satisfied with my Trooper. It was purchased back in 1998 and I now have 36000 mile on it. I have had no problems whatsoever with it. It is not a sports car, but if driven carefully, it goes quite fast in a straight line. I can easily beat Expeditions, Explorers, Suburbans, Grand Cherokees etc. (I like to race my SUV). In this small V6 you can get more power than many of the V8''s out there other than the luxury SUV''s (Escalade, etc.). Trust me, I''ve been there. I just put 20inch rims on mine, so needless to say, my racing days are over. The rims are cutting my acceleration speed, but damn they look good! With a chrome grille guard, chrome step bars and chrome 20''s, I got the hottest Trooper out there. Gas milege is poor, I average out at about 15 miles per gallon. Strength:
Lots of room in the back. Easy ingress/egress from back doors. Low price.
Weakness:
Very unreliable, mileage, ergonomics, cruise control, harsh ride. In 7,000 miles, this vehicle has been in the shop every 1,500 miles for repair making it the 2nd most unreliable vehicle I''ve owned, after the 1964 Corvair. Vehicle is now on its 4th O2 sensor. Cockpit is poorly laid out with inconvenient/insufficient cup holders and storage space. Cruise control "resume" causes downshift and hard acceleration even with only a 3-4 MPH differential between current and commanded speeds, making cruise control unuseable. Mileage (15/19 and I drive like an old lady) should be better. Driver''s seat is uncomfortable but the passenger seat seems fine. The ride is extremely firm to the point I dread driving around town. It''s fine on a smooth highway but even the smallest pavement irregularities yield harsh reactions from the Trooper. Pickups ride MUCH better. Weakness:
Just about everything Worst car I''ve ever owned -- not built to last. It now has only 98,000 miles and it''s falling apart. Since it passed 80,000 highway miles it has needed: new clutch, ignition system, new gas tank and fuel pump, front and rear brakes, shocks, starter motor, exhaust system. Front and rear bumpers have rusted through, and now I have discovered the frame rails have rusted out, making the car essentially worthless. Also compelling: I know 3 other people who own the same vintage of Trooper, and they have had very similar experiences as mine. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Classic looks, spacious storage, high sitting, great craftsmanship, excellent parking lot handling. Looks big but handles like a smaller vehicle than it looks.
Weakness:
Gas consumption 14/18, wind noise, difficult to handle at above 80 miles/hr especially in windy condition. rattles a little around the back door. A excellent deal for a SUV package like this, low price tag, feels reliable. If you drive mostly under 75 miles/hr, it''s a perfect SUV. Above 80 miles/hr drive is OK, but it demands your full attention on the steering wheel. If you want a very quiet drive at high speed and windy condition, look somewhere else. Strength:
Absolutely perfect in the snow (we are driving a ford explorer right now on loan and it SUCKS in the snow, even in 4wd. Very safe and versatile. Just great overall!
Weakness:
The slope of the floor makes it so that things fall out when you open the doors No cup holders Carpet in mine kept coming unattached and it was hard to find replacement bolt things for it. I had my trooper for 7 years with almost no major problems. The clutch kept threatening to go out but never did. It never left me stranded ANYWHERE. I absolutely loved this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone. A few days ago an idiot who fell asleep while driving hit me and totalled my beautiful Trooper and I am now set with the daunting task of replacing it. It is terrible, but the Trooper kept me safe (minor minor injuries, I went to work anyway) in the crash. Similar Products Used: Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep Cherokee Ford Exploder |

POWER,ROOM,SAFETY (COMES WITH A WINTER DRIVE FOR ICE AND POWER DRIVE PASSING), LOOKS GREAT!
Weakness:
GAS MILAGE COULD BE BETTER, BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT, IT''S BETTER THAN OTHER SUV''S, I GET ABOUT 21 ON THE HIGHWAY! I LOVE IT!! I GOT SO MUCH MORE THAN MY FRIENDS WHO DRIVE EXPLORERS. IT''S MORE CLASSY, AND I FEEL SAFER IN A TROOPER THAN I DO IN EXPLORERS. CARGO ROOM IS AWESOME, AND THE BACK SEATS RECLINE-BONUS! THE MIDDLE SEATS COME FORWARD LIKE A TAHOE, AND I HAVE ALMOST AS MUCH ROOM IN THE BACK AS A TAHOE. I GOT SO MUCH FOR MY MONEY, AND IT COMES WITH A 50,000 MILE WARRENTY WHICH IS BETTER THAN AVERAGE. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS! Similar Products Used: FORD RANGER ''89, CHEVY TAHOE ''98 |

Excellent cargo space, confortable ride for a SUV, solid construction, more than sufficient off road capabilities....
Weakness:
Gas Mileage. Well, I have car shopped for over a 2 months now and up untill now I was a Ford Explorer fan. I never even dreamed of looking at Isuzu Troopers until one day I was at Carmax and test drove a 2001. It was far superior than any of the other SUV''s that I had test drove: Nissan Pathfinder, Ford Explorer, Honda Passport... It held steady on the highway which amazed me after reading quite a few articles on it being top heavy and excessive sway. It has more than enough cargo room and compared to a Ford Expedition, I am sorry but Isuzu it beat. I have showed my Trooper to several people now and everyone who drives it falls in love with it. I am not saying the other vehicles are bad, but for me the Trooper was the best. Strength:
the reliability and build qaulity. ecellent off road prowness. Smooth engine at high rpms.
Weakness:
needs a little bit more power. hard to reach spark plugs. the trooper has been an ecellent veichle to own. I have put almost 110000 miles on it and it has never had to have nothing more than routine manteinece. it has been offroad severl times and it is driven very hard but it has never complained. The 3.2 liter v6 is an ecellent motor but it is asked to pull quite a heavy veichle around. There is a small lack in power but it more than makes up for it in long term durability and reliability. I believe the power issue was addresed in 98 Similar Products Used: jeep grand chrokee. nothing but a pain in the ass. constant problems with transmission and elctrical hardware. Engine has good power when it rus but its very rare. |
