Strength:

Tough engine and drive train. Lots of interior room, great ride, looks real nice, and is perfect for families.

Weakness:

Driver seat too tight,(ooh my knees) Suspension to spongy (OEM tires and shocks must be replaced asap),Oversteers, constant problems with turnsignals.

Reliable, Good Looking (2-Tone), Great for kids, pets, sports equipment, etc. I also like the strong response to tough roads. Rides like a nice sedan on the Freeeways and washes up like a jewel. Tough inside and out. I love it, it is my second Trooper.

Strength:

Cargo space. Power drive button for extra torque. High seating. Car-like handling, truck like power. Four wheel drive is EXCELLENT, never let me down.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, but got better at 24 mpg highway after using ZMax engine treatment. Rear seats don't come out.

This is a powerful V6 vehicle. I have taken it through snow, mud and dirt and it never let me down. I also tow my boat with it and it works great. Interior is classy and has lots of cargo space. After putting in my CD changer the stereo was great.

Strength:

Room, acceleration, off-road capabilites, elegance, styling, sound-system, moon-roof, this list can go on and on.

Weakness:

Nothing at all. Gas mileage could be 2 mpg better but it isn't anything to complain about

Isuzu Trooper is a great "truck". It is heavily critized because of its Isuzu name. This SUV rides, accelerates, and is as elegant as a luxury car. This vehicle is very reasonable, and it is HIGHLY recommened.. above ALLLLLLL SUVs!!!!

Strength:

STRONG v6, smooth tranny, great brakes, smooth ride(for a suv),TOD, Mercedes like paint job, Cheap, reliable, cargo area.

Weakness:

Lack of interior storage up front, driver legroom, slow steering ratio, ummm........

Bought this with 11k miles on it. Great SUV. Was great with two kids, but because of a new baby, we sold it after only a year to get a Suburban. ( 3 car seats won't fit in back without some hassle) We never had any problems and it looked and ran like new with 25k miles. Best value out there in a mid size SUV. Especially if you need 4wd. Drivers seat needed just a little more room but not bad really. Tons of room in second row and cargo area. In my opinion, Toyota like quality for a lot less than a Toyota. These would sell like hotcakes if they could improve on the boxy looks, but I kind of like the look myself.

Strength:

Great 4WD system, especially for road work in bad weather. Excellent cargo space and back seat movement allows for really large area to work with. Have moved furniture with this baby. Good back seat leg room and excellent road clearance.

Weakness:

MPG, but that''s with them all. OEM tires are a joke as are the shocks. Sound system is poor.

Second Trooper and Third Isuzu that we''ve owned and have loved them all. Looked at everything on the market and nothing comes close in the value to price ratio. I''ve taken Troopers everywhere and through every condition without hesitation. Have used them in winter weather where GM, Ford, other products wouldn''t dream of going. Like the TOD but actually perferred the old-line 4WD system that Isuzu used before that. 1998 is a Performance (no longer offered) that the dealership threw in some extras to move off of the lot at the end of the model year, so it''s nearly a Limited in terms of equipment.

Strength:

Lots of space, great cargo capacity and I like the double cargo door which opens in the right direction compared to other Japanese SUVs, which are designed for left hand traffic. It has a great 4WD system (TOD) with good off road capability. The TOD should also be offered with manual transmission, which would enhance the off road capability. Very good reliability. So far I did not have a single problem with the Trooper.

Weakness:

The driver seat is not suitable for tall people like me (6''5"). I replaced it by an aftermarket product and have now more leg and headroom. The cruise control downshifts too early, even at light accelerations. You have to deactivate it when going uphill. The suspension is too soft and could be stiffer. The mileage could be better, but the other SUVs in this class are also not better, than the Isuzu. I wonder if Isuzu and the others will ever offer the great Diesel engines they are selling in the other parts of the world.

It is a great car for the money. Good craftsmanship compared to my 2001 Ford Focus and the Mitsubishi truck I owned before. On the 2001 base model you only get what you really need and you do not have to pay for stuff you do not need. I like the boxy style, which gives lots of room and the traditional tough body on frame concept with at least one solid rear axle and the low range that allows some serious off road usage.

I compared it to Toyota 4 Runner and Nissan X-Terra, but both of them did not offer enough space.

The Ultimate Suv. Seven years of heaven. My third Trooper. It towed our 10000 lb. 29 ft.sailboat in 30 degee C. days; carried mountain bikes;and traveled some of the worst roads in winter on business.Unfortantely it was hit on the front corner at 50 kph and totaled. My wife had a bump on her head and a sore side for a couple of days. The good news is we pick up our new Trooper Limited Wednesday.

Strength:

Solid construction, seems like it would go through about anything. The engine is a little noisy, but moves this heavy vehicle fairly well. Good size - can carry most things, but not giant-SUV. Great value compared to the competition, (cheaper than 4-Runner, Pathfinder, Durango, Explorer, even Xterra, and it is a better vehicle than any of the others). Reputedly terrific off-road, although I must admit to never trying it. There are some astonishing pictures on one of the off-road websites of a stock rental Trooper performing some amazing tricks over rocks in Moab or somewhere.

Weakness:

Lousy gas mileage - I''m seeing around 14mpg mostly city driving. Base model drivers seat could be a bit more plush, and an armrest is sorely needed. Center console doesn''t offer much utility, kind of a waste of space. Electric windows are sticking a bit. Rear seats might fold down flat or remove altogether. No other problems.

Very solid, good value compared to other SUVs, reliable so far. Performance not bad for 4600lb garden shed. Overall I''m very happy with mine over the 20k miles I''ve driven it.
