Shakes & shimmies over 65 mph. I have owned this car for 3 years. I have had the anti-lock brakes replaced. Recently, I blew a rod and now I need a new engine. (the short block). I work with a girl that had the same problem with her SUV.Both cars have been maintained every 3,000 miles and have low mileage. (mine is a 1999 with 32,000 miles). None Great SUV. Powerfull engine, superb acceleration. Very good and helpful dealership. Warranty is the best in industry, Honda/Toyota don''t wanna stand behind their products. Drove all the way upto Canada in bad snow, no problems at all. Drove in flood like situation, with 4 wd, absolutely no problem. Bought used at about 14k miles paid 20,000 + tax. Tested other SUVs: Montero sport - pricey/poor quality Tribute - weak/toylike/same as escape Explorer - pricey/ford reputation for unreliability. Passport - pricey/made by ISUZU/same as RODEO/less warranty Pathfinder - pricey/noisy Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Doesn''t break down every day.
Weakness:
lack of quality. Missing the Mark w/ up to dateness. I want my 4runner back! Had to make a rash decision and ended up w/ a Rodeo S in ''00. Rodeo was behind the times. They let GM throw in there still non-fuel injected engine. (V6 mostly a dog of an engine) Sure it can go some places, but it really is a cheaply made SUV. A K&N and glass pac made a little difference. Be good to yourself, get a Toyota. Similar Products Used: Toyota 4-Runner |

Strength:
price, engine reliability
Weakness:
firm ride, quality of details Basic S model. No frills. Options included automatic tranny, A/C, P/W, M/S 31" tires, and grille guard. At the time, I couldn''t afford a 4-runner or Pathfinder, and the Rodeo was an SUV at a decent price In the 8 yrs, I put on 120,000 miles, but not without irritations. Fixed/replaced: Grille guard (replaced once, repainted once) Starter Alternator 2 power window motors 1 door latch 1 rear hatch release motor 1 rear hatch release latch Valve cover gasket Trans fluid cooling hose I''m not sure how better the newer Rodeos are, but I''d recommend spending a few extra bucks and getting a better vehicle. Rodeo LS
Strength:
Looks nice, good power, decent gas mileage (especially highway mileage).
Weakness:
Too many different things went wrong w/in the first 40,000 - transmission, alternator, sun-roof defects, electrical...can''t mechanically trust it. Loved it when I bought it 3 yrs ago...for the first 3 months. Immediately was brought in (3 or 4 x''s) for different recalled items - and the service center is NOT quick with vehicle turn-around time - VERY inconvenient. Then the transmission started slipping about a month before the warranty expired (whew, no money out of my pocket - only 3 days w/o a car!). Then when the warranty DID expire, the alternator went out (only 40,000 miles on the car, at this point!) Upon talking w/Isuzu and telling them the car had been in the shop nearly 10 times in the 3 yrs I''ve owned it...they were VERY good about it...and paid for the repairs. I have to say...I LOVE the look and ride of the vehicle - very sporty and good power...but as I''ve said before...in the shop nearly 10 x''s in 3 years - that''s unacceptable. Of course this was the first year for the body-style change...a big NO-NO! Won''t do that again. 1/2 Rodeo S 2WD
Strength:
Reliable engine, good suspension, roomy interior, powerful A/C even without tinted windows, still have a very smooth transmission, not so expensive parts if you buy aftermarket.
Weakness:
Don''t forget to rotate your tires or you will have uneven tire wear before you know it. some oil leaked at 40000 miles nothing serious though. Cannot service radiator myself because of the absence of drain plug in the radiator. Power door locks don''t open competely after 3 years and driver side power window motor broken last year cost $275.00(WOW!!) to fix. Overall, my major problems are the electrical component of the power equipment(door locks, power windows, etc.) I bought this SUV in 1996 at 11000 miles. Used warranty only once when some unusual noise came out of the steering. Problem was corrected by using lubricants. I have been though a snowstorm and thank goodness for its winter drive mode. It proved to be very useful since i don''t have a 4WD. It prevented me from being stuck in snow. I have it for 5 years now with 61000 miles without any significant problems. There is some rattles especially outside the truck. Similar Products Used: None |

Rodeo V6 4x4
Strength:
Very capable 4x4. You can take it off-road. Quiet V6, cargo room, toasty heater, stable depreciation.
Weakness:
Crap GM-like dealership charged me $1600 for a 60K tune-up. I offered to trade up new so dealer can absorb the tune-up at wholesale, but no dice. Idiots! So I went to Land Rover wear service was rather pleasant. Just MAH-velous. Purchased Jan 99 at 67K miles. This is the "Charlie Brown" of SUV''s. Girls are totally not turned-on by my rig at all. I have no alarm and no one seems to want to steal this thing. 124,000 miles and still quiet. I''ve taken it cross-country OR-FL-NJ, survived Wyoming winter. Some drivers ahead lost visual and I went off the Interstate to avoid braking. Shifted to 4wd then forward/reverse to get a rocking momentum and I made it back on the road off the center ditch in 3 feet of snow in a short time. Interstate shut down, so I never saw Laramie. Detoured to Colorado. I was very impressed with this cheapo yuppie SUV. Replaced timing belt at 70K which is normal. I check under hood, check tubing, feed it synthetic every now and then. Replaced new windshield and new sealant for the rear axle. Factory battery finally died after 7 years! Factory suspension is finally giving out (thud, boing, boing), power windows and locks are dying on me in cold weather, but the HEATER is hot and fast. Cargo is ideal. My 2-pc twin bed set fit fine with both rear hatches shut. 4x4 system is old school, which I like because it''s feels cool to stop the vehicle and officialize the engage/disengage process. That mechanical feel just pleases the ego. Are all rigs push-button 4x4 now? Rodeo is one of the last pickup-based body-on-frame SUV''s besides Nissan XTerra, so Rodeo is a true SUV for the price of a false SUV. Excellent "4-year" vehicle to own. Don''t buy used if you''re not car-literate or lazy on maintainance. No internal rattle. Above average reliability. Similar Products Used: 1995 Nissan Pathfinder V6, 1990 Isuzu Trooper 4 cyl. |

Strength:
Bhp/Tq, Style, Dealership is great for service.
Weakness:
Gas mileage weak in city, 15mpg. Long trips 400 plus miles are definitely better, 20 to 21 mpg. Cheap floor carpet & rear cupholders. Rear window washer trickles. No hood light. (See previous review) Just put over 10,000 and the truck still is great. This is my first SUV and I thought the trucks alignment was off so I brought it back and the Service Rep took the truck out with me and explained why the truck drifted and that it was not improperly aligned. I thought that was great that he took the time to explain how alignments work now I don''t feel so dumb. I love the dealership they treat me great. Similar Products Used: None |

Excellent power, torque and repsonse from the V6 mated to a 5speed. Great visibility when driving.
Weakness:
Seats could be a bit more comfortable and tailgate liftover is a bit high. Suspension is a bit soft. This was the last vehicle in a long list that I looked at. Attractive price, amenities, and features. It''s a pretty good looking vehicle. I have just installed a Westin safari grille, bug deflector, and K&N filter kit. It is a noticeable improvement on an already great engine. I can haul 4 people and camping gear without little fuss and a lot of comfort. Similar Products Used: None |

warranty. price. power of the v6 3.2 engine at low end. itelligent suspension. came with 5 year rd side assitance which is always good. in dash cd changer so you dont have to pull over and load the cd''s you want.
Weakness:
I can say that this veh is the most comfortable to ride in. The seats feel kinda stiff compared to other SUV''s. The interior of the veh isnt the most attractive as far as the material that was put on the doors. I is a great SUV for the price I paid for it. I bought a 01 fully loaded with the exception of a few minor options. Although I have only owned this veh for a few weeks I love it. I will tell you some of the things that caught my eye and my attention. First was the warranty 10 years 120,000 miles, nuff said about that. Second was the look of the veh itself, I personally think Its one of the best looking SUV''s on the market. I looked at alot of other SUV''s and this is definatley the best for the price I paid. I have only owend this veh for a few weeks so this all could change in the future, but I think this was a great choice. Similar Products Used: None |
