Strength:

Very reliable and excellent dealor service.

Weakness:

Engine is fairly thirsty so it''s not practicle for a commute car.

They say that buying a used car is buying someone else''s troubles. In the case of the Rodeo, I have to disagree. I purchased a ''98 Rodeo in ''00 with 50K miles. It went to the dealor once with what turned out to be a leaking exhaust manifold. After a few days of a rental vehicle, I picked up the truck with a total repair bill of $0.00 - all under warrenty. I now have 70K miles and average 18-22 mpg. Excellent rig.

good looks, interior room

Weakness:

base models should have cruise control and a cd player standard

despite the fact that we have a four cylinder engine, we are very happy with our Rodeo. It''s roomy and very sharp lookig. It has sufficeint power for where we live.

Warranty, nice people at dealership, price.

Weakness:

Plastic interior looks and fill cheaper than it is.

As someone previously mentioned this is an entry level SUV, but so far I have no complain about this truck. It is pretty comfortable, very good looking, so far reliable - have a visits to the dealer for schedule maintenance only. So far very good impression - service was very friendly and quick.

Strength:

Plentu of power for the size of the vehicle Does great offroad especially if you put larger tires on it and some other extras like a grill guard

Weakness:

gas mileage is pretty low but it does alright

I have had my rodeo since June of 2001 and it is great. There are a couple of small things that I have had to replace but nothing major. The only thing i have had was I was blowing out cam plugs and had both replace I then found out that they were recalled and the dealer is suppose to put plates over them. So if you have a rodeo manufactured between 1991 and 1994 check for that recall. It causes fire in the engine compartment because the camplugs are right above the exhaust manifold and the oil lands on the hot manifold.

Strength:

Reliable, durable, roomy. Did everything I could have expected out of an SUV. Also, you can''t beat the price. While it may depreciate quciker than some, I drive my cars to the end, so that is not a concern.

Weakness:

Terrible Terrible head-rests (ehich they have finally remedied)

Absolutely my favorite vehicle. I did a lot of research and test drove everything, and loved the Rodeo. I put 115,000 miles on in the almost 7 years I owned it, and never had a single signficant problem. Tragically, my Rodeo was viciously attacked by a UPS truck, and was totaled. After driving all the SUVs out there (again), I am again buying a Rodeo.

good a/c and comfortable inside.Great exterior look.Good on gas.

Weakness:

At times I find not enough power.

This unit was bought on oct.6, 2001(its a 2002 unit). On oct.15 same month 2001 the unit was taken back to dealer because the check engine light came on.Service was done and supposetly fixed. They said it was the fuel cap loose.Oct. 16 the very following day check engine light appears again, back to the dealer I go. this time it was reprograming of computer and it was once again (so they said) corrected.Once again on oct 18 check engine light activates. This time they give me an appointment for nov because they needed a disc that was not created for this unit of 2002.This disc took weeks to arrive. This case was taken to Daco (consumer help)and we were given an apointment with daco and the dealer with hector velez manager of sevice also carlos ruiz tecnic and myself. Hector velez from the dealer stated that the unit was going to need the computer replaced, this was defenetly the cause of the problem, and again I accepted. Ofcourse the part it self would take a couple weeks to arrive. Finally I take the unit to dealer dec 20, it was picked up the 26,with a statement of computer being replaced and varias relay of different types. This would finally be the end I was assured. Dec 28 check engine again is activated. Now IM in process of suing. This has really been a nightmare. I buy a car with zero mileage on Oct 6, and already that same month a week later Im having problems, till today. Im still driving my car with check engine with is on constantly. All they have done is speculate what the problem is but they really dont know. I have been sold a lemon witch has caused emotional stress loss of job, not to mention the poor and intimidating service I have been giving, Im the bad guy because I keep taking the car back for a manufactor problem that is not been taking care of.Did I mention I have to keep paying $436.00 for a car with a damage. Its now Jan. 26 and the status is still the same. This is a isuzu rodeo 5 speed 4cyl power nothing . It was sold to me for 18,300 and after financing Ill be paying 31,100.This is really absurd and ridiculous. Any one that can help please contact me 787 547-1973. thanks to all.

Strength:

power ,looks, towing capability ,I work on lift trucks for a living and ISUZU is actually A industrial equipment mfg FIRST and a auto mfg SECOND and isuzu makes some of the most bullet proof machinery ive ever worked on so this truck very likley has good "bones",driving "feel"

Weakness:

annoying problems like oil consumption, poorly thought out abs system (have a Honda crv with "good"abs system),in accurate gas gauge, poor sound system ,poor ride control ie shocks (althuogh again in fairness my truck was purchased used)body rattles typical of body on frame construction so forgivable also for the trade off of towing capability and giving more punishment than it will take in an accident, luggage rack makes a "farting"(no kidding!!!)noise in high winds at certant angles when traveling at 75-80 mph amusing at first but annoying over time I guess the only option is to turn up the awful stereo!!

Its a vehichle I WANT to like .It has many virtuse and some faults .pros powerful v-6,great looks, good(for a body on frame truck)handling, good "stance",fast good heat (I live in mid michigan this MATTERS),traction has been surprisingly good (mine is 2wd) in snow, smooth shifting transmission, truck has a good "personality"again I WANT to like the truck .CONS poor abs system dont hit bumps to hard while on the brake because the suspension is so stiff the rear wheels will get "airborn"and the abs will read "skid" and you will for maybe .25 of a second feel like youve lost your brakes VERY DISTURBING COMING OFF A HIGHWAY RAMP!!!!.engine likes oil .5 to 1.0 qt in a thousend miles ,although switching to semi synthetic oil has aparently slowed consumption, rear gate rattles (no biggie),have had wheel balance problems (rear)but in all fairness my dealer had installed a set of cheapie tires on the truck and the suspension is so stiff that on the highways around here I have the feeling the rear tires arent always on the ground I feel a set of michelins and some real shocks will solve this problem ,fuel gauge is inaccurate always indicating less fuel than is available again no biggie at least its consistant, stereo is well arrrg!!!!!.all in all considering I bought the truck used (10-31-2001)with 62000 miles on it for 10750.00 I am very happy I can haul my 15ft boat my family and a bunch of vacation stuff with no problem .I get 20 mpg on the highway (this is all it sees) I drive 54 miles EACH WAY to work 5 days a week and although the truck has some annoying problems so far it has been dead reliable.overall long term reliability will tip the scales for me on this truck so time will tell ,like I said its a vehichle I WANT to like because of its positive attributes but the irritating problems do give me pause so again time will tell I couldnt touch anything with the capabilities ,power, size and looks for what I paid so I am not complaing though!.

Strength:

It is very reliable other than the recent start problems which I feel is very simple to fix. It gets terrific gas mileage on the highway and in town. I have had zero problems with any windows and the heater and AC work great. It offers us a very smooth and quiet ride especially since I put new tires on it. It has terrific leg room front and back and it offers great cargo space. It has a nice powerful engine which Ive put to the test going over MTN passes in Colorado and has a strong passing gear for the highways. Even with the AC or heater on it still has power without skipping a beat. I have had no clankings or shimmies at any time. It feels and looks like a very solid suv.

Weakness:

The biggest weakness is the lack of cup holders. I feel they might be thinking a family of camels was going to ride in the car instead of people, especially in Az where you have to have a drink near by. I also feel it sits a little low; if you want to put biiger tires on it you''ll have to some lifting. Otherwise a great suv.

I bought it in 1999 with 77000 miles on it. It now has 109000 on it and has been very dependent for the most part until recently. It sometimes has a problem with starting. Ive bought a new battery recently and replaced my starter in 2000. I also just recently put a BK1 relay to help with the voltage problem when I start it. It went problem free for a few days and then cliked again when In start it. Once it fires up the its ready to go. I think its just a silenoid problem or something else simple. The only other problems Ive had are very simple. One I replaced my cv boots, only because it started to get a little warn, and the other was I replaced the thermostat. Otherwise the vehicle has been very reliable and prettymuch problem free. I do get my oil changed every 3Gs and have replaced my transmission fluid, spark plugs and other maitnance regulars. It has been a great running vehicle for my family and I hope to get plenty of more years out of it. I feel regular maitnance is the key. It is a great family vehicle or a good bachlor one for all your buds or girls.

Strength:

Great Looks Very affordably priced Very roomy with decent cargo space decent city mileage(15-17) even better highway mileage(21-22) Great factory warranty

Weakness:

Not so nice plastic interior Weak 4 cyl engine.(Get the 6 cyl if you''ve got a heavy foot) Crummy trade-in value

I own a 99 base S model with the inline 4 cyl and 5 speed tranny in Green mica. The payment on the 6 cyl LS model was something I couldn''t swing at the time. I''ve added some major accessories like; manik brush guard, factory bug deflector, rear taillight covers, factory foglights, factory side steps and an after market sound system(cuz the factory system was designed by deaf engineers) . The problems I''ve had are an ABS module that would stay on after switching off the ignition, which was covered by the warranty. In addition, a check engine light that decided to turn on by itself, since the dealership reset it, it''s never gone off again. Lastly, at cruising speeds over 65 mph, the steering wheel transmits a slight vibration, which based on other reviews, sounds like a common problem. All in all, if I would have paid over $25k, which is what most suv''s are going for nowadays, I would have had more reasons to complain, but for $18k, it''s been more good than bad.........
