SORRY PEOPLE MY COMPUTER MESSED UP AND PUT IN ALL THOSE WEIRD LETTER COMBINATIONS ON THE MESSEGE BELOW. HERE'S THE EDITED VERSION HERE: ? An excellent choice in SUVs. As I posted eariler, I have not had any problems with this truck. My sister an I both have identical cars... 2wd LSEs. With over 80,000 miles on mine, the only few problems I have encountered are oil consumption and the stock suspension. Oil consumption isn't much of a problem, and its basically good because you have to keep adding new, clean, fresh oil, keeping your engine nicely lubricated. I put a new suspension and shock kit on it for $600 and its like comparing day to nite. As of this point in time, this would have to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. Now, so emphasize I am not the only one who loves this truck, I'll fill you in on our other Rodeo with over 100,000 miles on it. We bought them both in Sept. of 1999, a Black LSE and a Silver LSE. My sister has 102,000 miles to be exact, and like me, hers eats oil, but not too badly. Like I say, oil consumption is not a big issue. She's now off at college so Im sorry I cant get into further detail with her truck. Mine uses about a quart ever 1,000 miles. Gas mileage hovers around 12- 15 mpg in city use, and manages 19-21 on the freeway, which is NOT bad for V6 SUV. If you use the Sport Mode (power drive) which allows the engine to supply you with more power without having to place your foot harder on the gas, you will use more gas, closer to the 12mpg that I have experienced several times. The truck has never died on me, and never had any problems with it except for the recall notice for the front sun visors... which isnt a big deal. With the 3.2 Liter V6, this SUV hustles when you want to get moving. I know several people with this same truck, and none of them have had any problems that needed a mechanic... just little ones like a squeak and a rattle hear and there but with a few tightenings with a screw driver they are fixed. Lets face it, for $19,000 (the Rodeo's base price) there are just about no other midsize SUVs on the market. The LS and the LSE are probably the better buys. starting at $22,000) Between the styling, performance, and overall reliability that I have experienced, I will encourage anybody looking for a

4 wheel drive, overall durability

I have had very good luck with this truck. It is my first car, and has roughly 104,000 miles on it. I live in the north east and therefore have to contend with the icy winters. I was pleasantly surprised with the rodeo''s performance in both snow and ice. It has the V6 and when my dad sold his truck and we had nothing except my rodeo to pull our 2 snowmobiles, it did exceptional. I pulled the trailer through deep snow, and up icy hills with no problem. Unfortunately it is starting to burn a small amount of oil, but only when i start the car. But it does have over 100k on it and is probably due for new head gaskets. All in all it has performed admirably. I was skeptical at first but not anymore. The 4 wheel drive is amazing as well and grips better than my dad''s old 97 ram. I guess these isuzu''s have to be tough when their major business is in third world countries.

Great looking, 205 HP engine

Weakness:

Engine loud when cold

I''ve had the car for 2 weeks now. I bought it brand new. The car is great. The only thing I dont like is that the engine is very lound when you first turn it on. But then few minutes leter, it runs great. I love the car and definatelly recommend it. I see people complain that the car is horrible. I suggest you thearly check the car before you buy it, even if you can take it to a mechanic for an inspection. Also take care of the car and it will take care of you.

Strength:

good ground clearence - good 4WD traction - good looks - powerful engine - easy to manuver - lots of cargo room with rear seats down - handles well - skid plates protect oil pan - comfortable ride - great view from high drivers seat and easy to see over the hood. - dash board easy to read and operate - the Rodeo is not to small - the Rodeo is not to big.

Weakness:

rear seat leg room is poor (but i don''t sit back there) - ABS brakes not the best - rear suspension not the best

Purchased new in Oct. of 2000. As of May 2002 I have 12,000 miles on it. I have had NO problems what so ever with this car yet. The 3.2 V6 is great, I recommend the V6 over the in-line 4. My garden green Rodeo turns everyones head for a second look. Here is the thumbs down: cheap plastic interior easily scratches,no big deal, the stereo sounds cheap, no big deal, easy to accidently press winter drive button, no big deal, the rear suspension seems too stiff I notice this on turns at highway speeds when I go over a bump the rear wheels feel to actually come off the pavement then the back end wants to come around, this could be dangerous on low traction pavement, 16/20 mpg could be better but I have seen worse on other SUVs, rear window wiper does a poor job if anything is under the wiper i.e. snow ice or even a leaf, cheap rear seat cup holder, at slow speeds 5mph or less and on slick pavement the car might not stop you will have to get use to the ABS brakes so plan to steer around what ever you are going to hit. I played with my Rodeo in a parking lot on snow and ice to see how it re-acted to handling and braking in these conditions, In 4WD it was very hard to loose control, I suggest you practice too, plus its fun. I have had it up to 110 mph, no problems, no rattles, could go much faster, remember this could be dangerous at high speeds if you make any sharp turns there IS a roll over risk. I have added a trailer hitch and receiver and side tube steps, looks sharp, do not order these accessories from the dealer, I bought them on-line at more then 50% cheaper then dealer price and installed myself. Bottom line, its not luxery but it is worth the money. I love my Rodeo and I take great care of it. Read the strengths and weeknesses below.

great for 65000 miles

Weakness:

dont get comftorable with it, it wont last noisy, poor handeling, stero sucks.

great little car for 65000 miles, then it SUCKS. Replaced intake manifold ar 70k, when I brought it in they said and I quote "oh yea we keep about 50 of these parts around because this happens so often". If it happens so often why dont they do something? Well then 2000 miles later I am driving home from work on the highway at 70 mph POP and blue smoke, engine dies and I coast off the hwy. Have it towed to the shop and I am told it has 2 holes in the oil pan. Something came apart inside and I will need a new engine, cost $5000. The car is only worth about 7k. The car is 4 1/2 years old and with 72000 miles on it and I need a new engine. Dosent make sense, I will never by an Isuzu again.

Strength:

With just over 1300 miles, it has not used any oil, the gas milage remains constant at approximately what was advertised. There have been no squeaks, rattles or bumps noted thus far. The ride is fairly smooth. One flaw I have noticed, is that the seats seem a bit small and stif, even with the electric drivers side seat and the lunbar support device it is not totally as comfortable as I had imagined it should be based on other cars I have driven with simular features. Even the Kia Sportage was more comfortable.

Weakness:

None noted

As this vehicle is my first ISUZU product, I am still cautious with it as to noises, ride, comfort, tire ware, oil comsumption and gas milage.

Power, looks, handling in snow/off-road, and the chicks really like it!!

Weakness:

Oil consumption, ABS

I have had no problems after buying my Rodeo. I hear all types of bad things on other summaries. I guess they don;t know how to drive it. Got lots of power, comfort, and looks. Accessorized greatly, real looker. Good power, will beat most bigger vehicles in race. The V6/4WD model is a must. If you are going to buy a big truck, why would you get the base model. Buy something else if you don''t have the money. Goes great in the snow, ok on gas, bad on oil. ABS has a little to be desired. Overall, great vehicle for a college students first car.

Just say no to Isuzu. I bought the thing for little or nothing from a private owner in September ''01 with just over 62,000 miles on it. Little did I know that this would turn out to be a bad investment. After semi-smooth sailing for a couple of weeks I run into engine trouble of the expensive kind. This 4-cylinder, base model decides to jump time (timing belt break) just as the wife & I are headed to the beach. I do a little investigating and come to find that this is a recall repair that I lucked out on. I send it to Charlie Thomas Isuzu and they fix me up a nice recall ticket that requires replacing the heads, two pistons & valves, and timing belt. Minor inconvenience & repairs courtesy of Isuzu mfg. Since then, the check engine light has been relentless. It was diagnosed as a rapid misfire from cylinders 1&3 which I ended up replacing the spark plugs, wires, & coil (real source of problem) and now I''m occasionally graced with a flashing check engine light at speeds over 70mph. I smell lemon. Need I add that this is a powerless standard that struggles to accelerate without the a/c on. Similarly, the fuel economy isn''t worthy of squat. It was interesting while it lasted. Any Isuzu enthusiasts looking for a ''98 Rodeo, 4-cylinder, standard transmission, exceptional condition, 2nd owner; best offer.
