Love the look.
Weakness:
bad gas mileage huge turning radius back end opens like a truck tailgate I've been driving my Rodeo for a couple of months and I'm already thinking of getting something else. My intent was to get a Toyota Tacoma, but the Rodeo wooed me on the lot. The gas mileage is awful (16mpg on the highway), haven't figured out city mpg yet. Turning radius is huge. Cup holder is in an inconvenient place, but mostly I'm just glad to have one. Stock radio and 12 disc changer have been great, but I'm convinced the truck will soon be broken into and all 12 of my favorite cds will be stolen. The power of the V6 engine is nice to have, but maybe not at the expense of the poor gas mileage. Strength:
-Horsepower and torque. Not the highest, but still pretty good by current standards. Better than average acceleration for an SUV. -Capable performance in snow, rain, and off-road. -Decent cargo capacity -Price (compared to similarly configured SUVs) -Options (except for 6-disc CD changer)
Weakness:
-RELIABILITY -Quality of interior materials -Rear window washer. An earlier review likened it to someone peeing down your back window. That guy nailed it completely! -Dealer support -Warrenty Terms. In my opinion, free rental cars are a must for any vehicle during the warranty period. -Gas Mileage: 270-300 miles per tank depending on city or highway driving (Yes, I realize this is an SUV-ism) I purchased my Rodeo new in 1998 and currently have 122,500 miles on it. While it is generally very capable on-road and off, I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER ISUZU and caution others to consider the adage "You get what you pay for." I chose the Rodeo over the Toyota 4-Runner (and other SUVs) because of the $8000 smaller pricetag, appearance, greater horsepower and torque, and its combination of features...and because the Toyota dealer wouldn't or couldn't get me the options I wanted. I figured the $8K savings would pay for a lot of repairs. Well, I was right. Repairs have been the name of the game with my Rodeo. To date, I've had to repair or replace the following (some on warranty, most not): -Air conditioning compressor and related componentry - 3 times -Horn/Driver Airbag unit - 2 times -Alternator, Generator and battery cable -Rear wiper motor -Rear Passenger side ABS sensor (don't let the dealer talk you into replacing the ABS control unit - extremely expensive) -Rear passenger side door lock -Tailgate door lock - 3 times -Water pump -EGR valve and gasket, Purge Valve solenoid, and intake gasket, plus two additional servicings to clean what the dealer left behind. -Numerous factory recall items replaced free of charge - most did not affect the vehicle's operation. -The 6-disc CD changer and rear window washer are current outstanding repairs. I haven't the stomach to add my total costs up, but they include a few weeks worth of rental cars since Isuzu doesn't back its warranty with a freebie. All this plus the regularly scheduled service, new tires (expensive!), brakes, and the odd windshield (or three) that any vehicle might require. In addition, two Isuzu dealers did not correctly complete the air conditioning repairs as stated in their own manual, resulting in a/c failure within 3-4 months, 3 times in a row! I don't know how reliable newer versions of the Rodeo are. 1998 was the first year for the updated model and this might be the cause of so many problems. However, since Isuzu has concentrated on the sale of SUVs, I feel they should have worked the bugs out. My next SUV will be an expensive, underpowered but reliable Toyota, preferably one not built in Indiana. Similar Products Used: None |

What are you nuts this car is perfect in every possible way. I have had this car for close to a year and it rides like an absolute dream. I love driving it and so do all my friends. Most of all though it is a great looking car for me to have as a first car and I love it. Similar Products Used: Toyota 4Runner,Cheverolet TrailBlazer |

everything between the bumpers This truck is a big heap-o-junk! When I first purchased it, I was pleased. It was cool looking compared to other mid-sized SUV's. I purchased it in February 2000 and I have now 63,000 miles on it. Within a week of owning it I smelled gas inside the truck, which the service people said was normal (no leaks found). The steering wheel shakes like crazy above 55 mph. The transmission went out at 48,000. Then, the ABS and Brake light came on. The repair shop said it was a "sensor" problem. At 63,000 the Check Engine light came on. It was a bad intake manifold (not covered by warranty). Isuzu customer service stated that to many dealerships were close to each other so they had to close one. This does not make any sense, because other than the one in Harvey, LA (which they closed) the next closest one is in Baton Rouge, LA. Now,I have to drive close to 100 miles (1 1/2 - 2 hours) to get service. Isuzu refuses to address the ABS problem that many people have had. I guess this is why they increased the warranty to 10year-120,000miles for the 2000 model. I will never buy an Isuzu product again! Weakness:
1. There are not alot of dealerships. This could be trouble if you need service out of town. 2. I've had my Rodeo for about a month and I love it. It rides great without alot of road noise and gets decent gas milage for an SUV. Don't believe the bogus reviews drive one before you make your decision, you won't be sorry. Strength:
I like the acceleration I realy like the tail gate. I despise the hatchbacks on all the new products. The rodea has a lot of head room and does not close you in. The winter mode in 2 wheel drive has gotten me out of plenty of snowy situations.
Weakness:
Cruise control I have had the Rodeo from new and have had no significant problems except the cruise control. I have been unhappy about this since then. the dealer claimed to have replaced everything but it still fluctuates as it goes down the road. The dealer said this is a truck!@ Well I rent cars every week and i have NEVER had a car do what my Rodeo does. It can not hold a steady speed! On the good side I have 185000 miles with no use of oil or majoe breakdowns, It has been mechanically sound and still going |

Reliability....Reliability.. Reliability
Weakness:
rides like a p/u.. STUDS AND LUGNUTS.. This is by far the most reliable vehicle i have owned.. 195k miles and no major problems.. I bought brand new in 94'. I have changed the oil every 3k miles..I have the 3.2 v-6.. The only problem with my Rodeo has been the studs and lugnuts. I have replaced all the studs and lugnuts at least once.. My wife bought a 2000 rodeo S 4cyl and it has no power.. The engine lopes and hesitates.. However it seems Isuzu has solved the harsh ride problem.. My advice,, Buy a Rodeo if you want a good reliable SUV with no frills and get the v-6... Similar Products Used: JEEP CHEROKEE,FORD EXPLORER |

Weakness:
Oil consumption, oil consumption, more oil consumption. In my travels, I have talked to every Isuzu Rodeo owner that I have come into contact with, and have heard the same story over and over. 1 qt. of oil consumption per 500-1500 miles. My Rodeo uses a qt every 1000 miles city, and one qt about every 600 miles highway. This is pathetic. I thought that kind of problem was solved in the late 50's. Apparently, Isuzu assumes no responsibility for this blatently obvious defect. Most people that I have talked to about this issue say that they would never buy Isuzu again because of the oil issue. Rest assured that I have had my engine checked thoroughly for leaks, and there are none. Next issue; cost of parts. I have never owned a vehicle that cost so much for repairs. Most parts that i have had to replace on my Isuzu had to be ordered from the dealer (air conditioner compressor, fan motor assembly, 4 WD auto engaging hubs) and cost a fortune. I had previously owned an Isuzu Pup pickup several years ago and was very pleased with it. Based on that truck, I thought that the Rodeo would be a good vehicle. Boy was I wrong. Overall, I think the vehicle is a pleasure to drive. But that's where it ends. |

Strength:
It looks great.
Weakness:
The engine light came on for no apparent reason. Mechanics kept suggesting it was certain sensors that needed to be replaced, but after replacing all kinds of sensors, my check engine light is still on. ABS light comes on every now and then, replacing the sensor didn't help. I choose just to let it be. The light has now gone off, for about a couple of months. The timing belt broke around 75k, nearly ruined the whole engine. Spent about $2500 to fix my engine. Now, my car stalls every now and then, especially when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. Do you think the mechanics know why? Nope. I've also had my cataylic converter replaced 3 times. Isuzu dealership did a tune-up on my car and found that replacing the spark plugs caused my car to bog down, or lose power when starting. They in the end, replaced the spark plugs with the ones I had in before. And, they couldn't tell me why my car performed that way. My car vibrates under windy weather, it's so loud and annoying. At 120k miles, the rear window rattles, the compartments make noise, the backlight on my stereo went out at about 30k miles, noise comes from the tailgate. I have had so many problems with my SUV. I don't know where to begin. I do a lot of driving and this car has given me more trouble than it's worth. Most of my problems began when the mileage warranty ran out. I take very good car of my car get the oil changed on time, etc. I've always been told that my oil was low. Similar Products Used: 1996 Honda Passport |

Best looking SUV, best price tag, verry comfortable, we drove 13 hours on a bus to get it, with no sleep. Then drove 6 hours back and the ride was amazing!!! I like the interior look, very roomy, nice layout(radio,ect..)like the tint windows, also looks better with alll the extras, nerfbars, brush grard, ect.. Fast v6, easy to drive, no blind spots. And Im sure that I have more...
Weakness:
I think this goes for any used SUV or truck. It is a bit bumpy, good new shoocks will fix that up. Back window rattle, can be very anoying, but will get that fixed aswell. Plastic bumper, but thats how it is with the new cars now. The radio dose suck, and so do the speakers, but, I will replace that crap. Otherwise its been running great. Oh, the rear windshield spray sucks, it looks like someone is standing on top of the truck peeing down on it. Well, first off, if your looking to buy an SUV, test drive as many as you can. And always realize that an SUV is a truck, thats the bottom line. If you want a smooth car-like ride buy a car. Or get an SUV and put offroad shooks on it. If you plan on buying used, this vehicle is a great bargan, at least where we live. Everyones buying blazer or jeep, an who the hell wants to be like everybody else?? We test drove both and the Rodeo wins hands down! I drove a 97 jeep GC wuth 40,000 miles, and I swear the thing was falling apart, Im sure that thier are good ones out thier, but we hated the interior, and the ride. Im sorry but wood trim is UGLY, looks like grandmas car inside! Anyway, I love my rodeo, and plan on getting another when this ones time is up. They just fit my stlye.
