Rodeo
Strength:
1. Looks 2. Mileage (18-21)mpg And remember, car people, that I'm coming from bigger trucks down to this Rodeo, so 18mpg is double what I'm used to. 3. Small= manuaverable 4. Comfortable, even on 12 hour drives.
Weakness:
1. Lug studs are notoriously soft, but anit-seize will help prevent breakage on tire changes. 2. '92 has manually locking front hubs. 3. Everything seems to hit my windshield. 4. Of course it doesn't hold nearly what my F-250 can, cargo wise- BUT, what it does hold it keeps dry! I bought this truck as a work truck, to replace my Ford F-250. Let me tell you folks, I'll take Isuzu's 20mpg over my Ford's 10mpg any day! My old S-10 didn't get that good mpg either. This Rodeo is a very comfortable SUV. It's a '92 and the interior is in almost perfect condition. Contrary to what I've read here, the seats are very durable. I've had dogs, all kinds of tools, and general crap all over these seats. They cleaned up great and look practically new. The V-6 is plenty strong, the 5 speed is lots of fun, and the vehicle is good looking- minus the dents and scratches it has endured. It does take some bumps hard, but if your gentle with it, it's gentle back. I've had it off-road and it did just fine. Gets into smaller places than my F-250 too! This is also the first vehicle I ever had that, when I changed the oil, it was still clear when I checked it again weeks later. I'm still shocked about that- and yes, the oil pump is still working... By the way, it had 133,000 miles on it when I bought a month 1/2 ago. I've put 5,000 miles on it since. If that's not a break-in test, I don't know what is. I may buy a new model for my wife, I like it that much -so far. Similar Products Used: I've had a Chevy S-10 (Isuzu has better mileage and feels better) My Ford F-250 superduty extended cab. /Isuzu Rodeo V6
Strength:
Looks great, especially w/ brush guard, tinted windows & side-steps Engine easy to work on, serpentine belt easily changed, plugs easily accessed, open engine compartment; Great engine, I compare it similar to a 97 V6 Maxima I used to own. Great power, no problem passing.
Weakness:
Terrible gas mileage ~13-17 w/ mixed city/hwy. VERY loud over the smallest of bumps and holes (even w/ NEW SHOCKS). Scares me to think about the damage you might do if you ever went off road. It truly sounds like it's going to fall apart. Seats tear up very easily, anything pressed up against the cloth leaves a permanent mark. Starting to have transmission problems at 35k miles. When I shift into DRIVE after reversing the transmission SLIP from time to time and I can't figure out what might have caused it. Now to top it all off my gas guage is going out. It tells me that I have a 1/2 tank after approx 25miles driven. Sometimes it corrects itself, better reset your miles after fill-ups!! Absolutely like the looks, especially w/ the brush guard, side-steps & tinted windows. I have a silver V6 and the matching rims are nice. To date I have installed a new serpentine belt after 30k miles, new shocks (after just 30K miles), new tires after 37K miles. I do like the simplicity of the vehicle, analog guages, clean engine compartment, etc.. I just don't know what to do about the bad gas milage. I was warned about SUVs but larger vehicles get the same mileage. For example the Ford Excursion V8 Diesel what has a capacity for 8-10 and a towing capacity of 10,000lbs gets 17 mpg. Imagine a HUGE vehicle like that getting the same mileage as a Rodeo! After installing a new set of Goodyear 245/70/16's my gas mileage actually dropped by 1-2 miles, I swear it did. I calculate after every fill-up by diving the miles driven by the gallons pumped. I even visit the same gas station everytime to lower the chance of errors. The gas mileage on a rodeo just sucks! Does anyone have any better luck than me? What type of gas do you use, 87,89 or 93? any secrets? I have been in a Nissan Pathfinder and the stereo is pretty good, but the Rodeo stereo is terrible, definitely not high fidelity. I think the vehicle gets better every year but I suggest you test drive the model of your choice. Do drive over a set of rail-road-tracks and hit a pot hole and see if you can stand the noise. It sounds like the vehicle is falling apart in some cases. It really concerns me that the larger suspension and cushy tires can't shield you any better than that!! You will not be let down when it comes to power. No problem in that deptartment. Make sure that the salesman doesn't have the power button activated cause it will eat more gas. In a real-world situation you will not have that button pressed. The salesperson would like you to think it has that added power at the gas mileage rating on the sticker. Affordable, roomy. BE CAUTIOUS!
Weakness:
This 2000 Rodeo has had an ongoing tire vibration/wear problem from day one. It has had three different set of tires, two different set of rims and getting ready to have fourth set tires placed on it within the week. It has been in five dealership in four different states and Isuzu cannot find the problem. Isuzu has now stalled me until my warranty has expired and now looks like I'm stuck with a LEMON. I would GREATLY appreciate anyhelp/advice. Have owned an Isuzu Truck prior and was impressed. I purchased My rodeo New and expected the same quality, unfortunately I the companies product and quality must have changed as the company grew. Isuzu Dealers say that Rodoe's have ongoing inherent problem and nothing can be done, other dealers say that this Rodeo can not be repaired. Sorry It Cut Me off (Below review) my wife drives a 2000 Honda Passport which I wanted to add, was another reason why we trust Isuzu so well. Hers has 63,000 miles on it and rides perfectly. We would've had two rodeos but she wanted the most luxury possible out of this truck and the Passport offered it best. Similar Products Used: 1997 Rodeo (118,000 mi) 2000 Passport (63,000 mi) |

I wish it had a 5 speed automatic I am in love with this vehicle. NONE like it on the road. Looks identical to the QX4 (infiniti) when next to each other... which is good b/c the QX4 is $38,000. My Rodeo is equipped with ISC (intelligent stability control) versus my '97 where it didnt have this feature. I'm an Isuzu driver for life now. My first Rodeo was a silver 1997. I put 118,000 miles on it without any problems but I liked the new design so I traded it in and words cannot describe the 98-03 models. They are incredibly powerful, frugal with gas compared to other SUVs, PERFECT warranty, and it looks great. the LSE models are surprisingly luxurious with a lot of SPORT mixed into it. Great deals on these trucks. Isuzu dealers are so easy to work with. Similar Products Used: 1997 Isuzu Rodeo |

PASSPORT EX-L
Strength:
Styling, Power, Comfort, Handling, Grippy big tires, lots of standard equit.
Weakness:
I really dont know any... Maybe they could offer a true luxury model to make some of these ppl quit b!tching about the Rodeo's "truckiness" As a honda passport owner (basically a rebadged isuzu rodeo) Im sharing my story with the truck. Had it since 1999 (brand new with 10 miles on it) and my mom gave it to me last year. I've driven friends cars from civics to range rovers and nothing has the power and styling of the Passport although some are more comfortable obviously. For this price range, the Rodeo or the Passport CANNOT be beat in terms of power, room, and build quality not to mention isuzu's warranty. I have had ZERO ZERO ZERO problems with this truck and I drive 50 miles round trip to and from school each day. Isuzu did a great job designing the truck. Road reports show the rodeo to be the most powerful of the bunch pulling off a 0-60 acceleration time of 8.2 seconds of a 4x4 model which means less than that on a 4x2! the 270hp trail blazer takes 8.4 seconds ! The 3.2 liter does an incredible job of getting decent gas mileage (Excellent for this class of cars) and giving you the power you need. I also like how Isuzu didn't cover up the exhaust sound of the rodeo and when you drive it you can hear it very well. Im surprised how well they made it sound. The service manager told me they put the muffler up close to the engine to give it a throaty sound, which it does have ESP when the engine is cold. With 80% of my driving on the freeway I get around 18.5mpg. Similar Products Used: 02 Civic, 02 Mountaineer, Pathfinder, TrailBlazer, Tahoe... driven them all THIS IS MY FAVORITE! |

Rodeo
Strength:
Copious room for driver and passengers. Lots of power with the 3.2 V6 engine. Ease of driving the vehicle...even in 4WD mode. Handles like a sports car but can take you anywhere at any time no matter what the weather's like
Weakness:
MY biggest disappointment is the cup holders...what were they thinking? Also, the ashtray had no light..(no big deal for non-smokers) but it is a big inconvience in the dark I am very happy with my purchase of my 97 Rodeo. It has copious room for passengers and cargo.I have the 3.2 V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission and the power cant be beat. The shift-on-the-fly 4WD came in handy with a recent large snow-fall we had..the vechicle performed flawlessly. I would recommend any 4WD seeker to look at the Isuzu Rodeo as a possible next purchase Similar Products Used: I traded my Chevy 1500 Silverado pick-up for my Isuzu.....and I have not regreted it for a second |

fuel economy, easy to change your own oil, and underhood accessibility is good. great in the snow, also.Pretty good ride for a "truck", and lots of room to carry things!!
Weakness:
no power seats, inv 1998.I would`ve like more horsepower, and maybe all wheel drive, or full time 4wd.Engine is noisy, but very, very dependable, and strong! I bought this car new, off the showroom floor, and for about 100 dollars over dealer invoice!! We now have about 105,ooo miles on it.We have had some recalls on it, and have had 2 alternators put on.We just put on our first set of brakes, at 95,000 miles!!!!!!!!This has been a great vehicle!!Mostly it has been trouble free. Weakness:
All of these I would list as minor weaknesses...... must remove headrests to fold rear seats, no designated place to stow headrests moderate amount wind & engine noise external radio antenna (doesnt like car washes) gas door doesnt lock I purchased my 2000 Rodeo LS when 2001's were beginning to fill the lots (which allowed me to get a pretty good deal). The dealer came off the list price $5000 and offered me $750 over Blue Book value for my trade-in. If you're used to driving any of the smaller pick-up trucks as I was, you should be pleased with the ride/handling the Rodeo offers. Compare it to most modern sedans and you might think the Rodeo lacks refinement. The Rodeo is basically a truck, and judged as such, I've found it to be an impressive balance of style & utility. The interior is laid out well, and has everything most people would ever need/want. (I particularly like the extra power outlets) It has a decent mix of cloth/plastic surfaces, but all seem to fit together well, and I have experienced no squeaks or rattles in 2 years so far. The front and rear seats are both comfortable. The 205 HP V-6 provides plenty of "get up and go" but at high revs, a fair amount of engine noise will creep into the cabin. The backseat is one of the roomiest for this size/class SUV, however those over 6 ft might find that the drivers seat doesnt slide back very far. Visibility is very good; no blind spots on models that have spare tire stowed underneath. The cargo area is quite roomy esp. with the rear seats folded flat. Gas milage, while not impressive, does match Isuzu's estimate. My gas milage has averaged 16 mpg in town and 21-22 mpg on the hwy. I have had NO problems (mechanical or otherwise) in the 2 years I have owned my Rodeo, but the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty is still a comforting feature.
