Model Reviewed: Isuzu Rodeo

Strength:

-Engine has just enough HP. -Lots of cargo room -4WD is good, when it works. -a little more car-ish than most SUVs

Weakness:

-Not a long distance car (seats very uncomfortable) -4WD is out, bad mechanical design -power window motors ALL need replaced -expensive to repair

All in all, I want to like my Rodeo, but it's costing me too much money. I bought it used with 92,000 miles. I wouldn't suggest anyone else make this move, because they are expensive to perform maintenance on, and they WILL require maintenance.

Model Reviewed: Rodeo LS 5-speed

Strength:

Looks Cargo Space Low gas consumption(I took the 5-speed, which definitely helps...) Pretty comfortable ride for a truck High torque 4-wheel drive at the push of a button Drives more like a car than a truck

Weakness:

Extreme use of oil(apparently a conscious descision by Isuzu to imrove gas consumption...they should have told us, though....) Very loud wind noise when driving with either/both rear windows down "Check Engine" light flashes every time the temperature goes below -15, and you haven't warmed the motor up for 1/2 hour...Bring it to the dealer and they'll tell you nothings wrong.I guess this one won't apply to you folks in warmer climates.

PLease note that the purchase price is in Canadian Funds. This truck is leased only. I was pretty happy with the vehicle for the first year. I don't put a lot of mileage on per year, though. At about 22,000 KM, the engine blew. I was told I had run out of oil at some point(not), but they couldn't prove it. Also, it was a demo, so after MUCH discussion and stalling for time, they did agree to cover the new engine under the warranty. I am very grateful that I was supplied with a temporary vehicle, as the repairs took TWO AND A HALF MONTHS to complete!!! The parts had to be ordered from Japan, and I was told again and again that the job completion would be "the end of the week", which was obviously VERY frustrating, as time wore on. It's hard to say for sure if this was the dealer's fault or the parts supplier in Japan. Apart from this major repair, I can honestly say that the Rodeo has cost me nothing besides oil changes, etc. Final outcome? The lease is up in 7 months, and yes, I'm glad it's a lease. I would not lease or buy another one(my dealer tells me that GM is severing all ties with Isuzu after this year, mainly because of the oil consumption/parts replacement issues). At least GM has acknowledged a subservient product and is making a wise descision. To the person who ends up buying my vehicle? You'll have yourself a very clean, well maintained, low mileage, new engine -containing truck. Just make sure you check your oil every 1000 KM, because you can bet that the next time, the dealer won't be so likely to replace the engine. And I have no doubt that it WILL happen again. All in all, if you like to gamble, then this just might be the truck for you.

Strength:

Very low maintenance Manuevers well Spare tire mounted on back

Weakness:

Cup holders are very difficult to use

I purchased my rodeo new and have owned it now 8 years. The only money put into it (other than normal maint.)was this year when it needed brakes, spark plugs, and fuel filter. It has over 100,000 miles on it and at least 40 percent of them are on gravel. It has held up well especially for the bad road conditions we have. Now the rear automatic door locks are gummed up with gravel dust and giving me minor problems, but not hard to live with or fix.

Very reliable. Low maintenace. Decent gas mileage.

Weakness:

CUP HOLDERS!!!!!! THEY STINK!!!!

This has been an excellent vehicle for me. Very roomy and dependalbe. Works very well in bad weather. My rodeo is a V6, 5 speed manual transmission. I have yet to have any serious problems aside from the usual maintenance items. I've had this vehicle for 5 years and the only thing that I had to replace was a bad coil pack (i.e. spark plug). I had to replace the starter and alternator only because it was time. Although true, recently, I need to monitor the oil consumption. I usually have to put in a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so. Other than that, I'ts been great.

EVERYTHING!!!

Just to let the guy below me know, winter mode does not work when you are going above 30mph it just starts your acceleration off in 2nd gear to prevent wheel skid in the ice if youre in two wheel drive. So no, do not worry if you hit it at highway speeds because it will not engage.

Strength:

Sharp look, great drive!

Weakness:

3 things: The dashboard controls do not tilt toward the driver as they should. There is no light in the glove compartment. It is way to easy to accidently hit the "winter" button when you're driving. Could cause awful problems if you're driving on the highway.

I test drove every SUV on the planet before I bought my Rodeo! Great drive...feels just like a car. The thing I like most is the feeling of being in control. Some SUVs feel like they're going to tip over on sharp curves, but I feel safe in the Rodeo. Gas mileage is just ok, worse if you have it in "power" mode. Overall GREAT car...would buy again!!!

Strength:

Looks

Weakness:

Ride, interior, stereo, heating/AC unit, View, you can't see anything out the back window. I had to remove the rear headrests to see

Unfortunately I have not been happy since day 1. Customer Service is HORRIBLE. The product is terrible. The interior is cheap. The ride is rough. I can't warm my car up until it is driven for 20 minutes(Idling a half hour will not warm it up) The dealer is now telling me that it is normal for a Rodeo to use 1 qt. of oil for every 1000 miles. Also a %30 fuel reduction in winter is normal for a rodeo. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY AN ISUZU!!!!!!!!
