bumpy ride

The rodeo in my opinion is the best SUV out on the market today. I doubt that any other SUV can beat the power and reliability that a v6 rodeo provides

Weakness:

Gas mileage sucks. On my first full tank of gas, I only got 250 miles. Granted, it was mostly city driving. For a 19.5 gallon tank, this is worse than my old 1976 Jeep.

Overall, I love it. I have the 4-Door, 4WD, V-6, Automatic.

Strength:

Extremely reliable engine - with proper maintenance. Fantastic tranny Love Power mode when climbing the CO. rockies. Pulls a 4K pound boat like it's not even there. Heat/AC work great. Very minor parts for replacement after years of wear/tear. Great power geared with 3.2L 24V Isuzu engine

Weakness:

No cup holders!! Love the height of 16" tires, but EXPENSIVE for good replacement. Studs/lugnuts very weak. Never again buy Goodyear tires, truck lost a bit of it's grip to these slippery things. They are horrible in snow/rain.

Although the dealership/servicing department sucked; this truck has been fantastic. I was a bit concerned at first, as I purchased this truck as a demo with 12K. Within the first year, it was found to have a bad carrier bearing on the driveshaft, faulty alternator, and something flukey about the tranny. To this day, the dealership has never mentioned to me what the tranny problem was, all I know is that the thud forward from 2nd-3rd gear (automatic) has never occured again. Alternator and carrier bearing fixed under warranty as well. I now have 107K miles on her, having lived her 1st 3yrs in Vegas, NV - she went through 2 batteries, a few sets of radiator hoses, tons of radiator flushes (maintenance) and a set of tires that lasted to 69K miles. Heat really wares on a vehicle. To date, the truck gets very frequent maintenance, radiator flush every year - even now living in Colorado, and she's running fantastic. Hope to get another 150K out of her. Only thing I don't like about the truck now - and it's not even the truck, the 2nd set of tires on this girl SUCK! I opted for Goodyear Wrangler RT/S - slippery suckers! Wouldn't trade the truck for anything - I know where she's been, what's in her, and how well she's been taken care of. Couldn't stand the thought of being without her - she's never left me stranded, regardless of the terrain confronted. Won't purchase anything other than Isuzu; but, it'll be a long time before I even think about getting rid of my reliable girl. This is our 2nd Rodeo; first was a 91 V6 - she also had fantastic reliability. Bought the 97 with the bigger engine to pull our boat. Can't say enough about both Rodeos. We did trade in the older one for a 99 Chevy Silverado for an overhead camper use - at trade in the Rodeo had 150K. Although the Chevy's great; too bad Isuzu's don't make a heavy 3/4 truck for public/recreational use.

This is my first SUV and so far I love it. I am tall and so are my friends and this thing has leg room galore. I love the zippy 3.2L V-6 paired with the 5-speed manual trans. Smooth ride even at 70 mph. This rodeo has 106,500 miles on it and it acts like it is brand new, who ever owned this car before me took really good care of it. I really love the cargo space. I moved recently and did not need help from anyone with a pick-up truck. I love the traction in mud and snow. This thing rocks, It is like a cuter, less expensive Hum-vee!! I highly recommend this year of vehicle to anybody.

Strength:

- Excellent power. - Better-than-average SUV milage. - Generally good ride for a truck (city and hwy). - Good highway stability. - Price/Value (so far). - Good cargo space. - Power windows (good so far). - Power locks (good so far). - Reliable - hasn't left me stranded (as it shouldn't with less than 40K on it). - Good front/rear leg room.

Weakness:

- Friggin' check engine light. - Kinda spongy ride on irregular paved surfaces. - Seats are a little too hard on rides more than 30 minutes (I'm picky though). - Some VERY light vibration only at 55-65 MPH. - ABS is a little too over-compensating (but is easy to get used to).

I purchased this Rodeo used (off a lease) with 15,000 miles on it for about 18,500. Initially, I was very pleased with overall value, power, SUV visibility, 4WD capabilities. I have owned this SUV since March of 2001, and have put about 20,000 miles on it. Here are my current thoughts: It's a truck frame with Body-on-frame...it rides like a truck. Do not expect a car-like ride from an truck/SUV. If you want a smooth car ride, then buy a car. I have had a couple of issues so far, that have been almost fully covered by warranty. The first issue I had was a clunking sound coming from the front passenger side. Local dealer determined it was a loose skid plate, and tighened bolts down...no return of problem in over 6 months. The second issue I had was about 2 months ago (36,000 miles) with the Check Engine light. It ended up being the Oxygen Sensor. It was not covered by warranty (wearable part, like brake pads). This O2 sensor and labor cost about $200. The latest issue (Feb, 39,000 miles) is that the Check Engine light has come back on again. The dealer has determined that the Engine Intake Manifold Gasket is cracked and needs to be replaced. Christmas Motors doesn't cover it, and Isuzu doesn't cover it, but Christmas is working out a deal with Isuzu dealership so it is covered. So, there have been a couple issues, but all the costly problems were covered by warranty. Gas milage is so-so (I get about 16mpg, but I do all city driving, and use 87 octane gasoline). Overall, I like having an SUV. The jury is still out on my final thoughts of value...I love the Rodeo so far, but recent repair issues leave me a little nervious of higher milage and post warranty work.

Both Rodeos Ive owned are great. Powerful--goes without saying Fun to drive Goes anywhere off road Easy to work on Cheap to maintain Looks like a million bucks when dirty and even better clean

Hello People: I see many fellow Isuzu owners have had great experiences with the Rodeo. I'm one more satisfied and loyal customer. Got a black 1997 V6 4x4 with 68,000 miles on it for my 16th birthday two years ago. Since then, I've driven it to canada during summer vacations, and the LA mountains for winter vacations, and every trip I took was in my Rodeo along with my 80 mile commute to school every day. I ended up putting just over 82,000 miles on it and in December, it was up to just over 150,000 miles! The Rodeo performed great despite some of the hard driving I put it through. Very easy to work on when it needed oil changes, new spark plugs, and so on. Very cheap to keep running and had a very good style to it. After 150,000 miles it the odometer, I figured it was bound to start having some expensive problems so I sold it to the dealer for $1,200 and got a 2003 black Rodeo 2wd with leather package, sport package and a few extras. 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty which I dont think I'll be needing :-) Fully loaded Rodeo for just over 22 grand! Isuzu gives great service and has kept me thoroughly happy. They have a customer for as long as they are selling SUVs. I now have 7200 miles on my new one and it is such an outrageous vehicle. It really needs to be on more peoples' shopping lists. Very strong vehicle. I also wanted to add that I havent had any oil problems with either vehicle and I think the cause of some of these oil problems that people are having is because they arent changing their oil often and letting their engine wear away at itself. I belong to many Isuzu groups and I havent encountered someone who has ever had an oil problem which tells me the people who have problems with this vehicle are neglecting it. Big no no. My mom has a Dodge Durango now and it is the biggest piece of sh!t. Fair warning to everyone. Stay away from the whole Chrysler corp.

Strength:

Never had any sort of problems of any type with this vehicle. Switched shocks to Bilstein, rides fine. Acceleration, Handling, and Reliability are terrific

Weakness:

brakes wear out sort of quickly (last about 45,000 miles) but they DO stop the truck nicely

I will tell some people I know who own Passports and Rodeos to make a post on here and share their experiences. I see several people on here whom have posted reviews about their Honda Passports since they are the same truck, so I too will post mine. These are identicle trucks except the Passport comes with slightly more standard features. I've been really happy with my Passport. I knew I was buying a rebadged Rodeo, who wouldn't? The doors, engine etc say Isuzu. It rides great, looks good and has been very reliable. For the quality ive gotten, i wouldn't have minded paying 35 thousand for this SUV. I bought the EX 2wd. it's the fastest SUV I tested. This truck has been perfect and i would take it still, over just about any other 2002 or newer SUV on the market. I know alot of peolpe in my area have Passports and Rodeos and evreybody loves them. I recommend the Passport to anyone looking for a real Sport Utility with a lot of Sport. I owned a 98 Explorer V8 for 2 months (thats right 2 months) before I got sick of it and bought this. While a little shorter in the cargo area, it is better than the Explorer in countless ways, including more stable and comfortable ride, and the door handles and luggage rack do not rattle while driving. I think a lot of these people bought this vehicle wanting a rugged looking car and instead bought a tame looking truck. If you want something that rides like a car, drives like a car, and want gas mileage like a car, buy a car
