Strength:
Can't hurt it. These original platform Rodeo's were built to last. Remember I'm not referring to the newer Rodeo's, I have no experience with them. But the original Rodeo's were/are something incredible. These trucks have never left me stranded and only required regular maintenance and so far only 2 sets of tires each. Power w/the 3.2 V6 (97) 4x2 that acts like a 4x4 (97 rodeo) unstoppable 4x4 action (91 rodeo)
Weakness:
Cup holders! there are NONE! the 3.1 V6 in the '91 Rodeo is weak 16" tires are expensive (97) Can't believe the bad experiences written by owners of the newer Rodeo models. I have a '97 Rodeo (original platform) with now 109K carefree miles. This is my 2nd Rodeo, first one was a '91 with 200K - both have been fantastic trucks. Thing is is every car manufacturer is making less then perfect vehicles, no one company has perfected the quality. I have known friends with chevy, dodge, fords, and even Nissan Pathfinders, one person would swear by the vehicle, the other would despize their vehicle made by the same manufacturer. I for one will only purchase Izusu or Honda for an every day car/SUV and only Chevy's for full size 3/4 ton trucks. Every one I knew with a Nissan pathfinder complained about problems, and one friend had to replace her whole front end from only 40K miles of wear-tear and it had never been off-road. Again, these are my experiences with the original Rodeo's, not the redesigned - which I will be honest, I don't care for. I don't believe the redesigned is as solid in structure, not quite as much off-road capable, and they shortened the wheel-base making it unsuitable for towing safety. The newer Rodeo's are too car-like in looks for me as well. Strength:
Decent pick up comfortable, roomy interior
Weakness:
terrible gas mileage eats oil expensive to repair a mechanics nightmare does not hold value - at all! Since purchasing this vehicle there has been an issue with a high erratic idle. Take your foot off the break and you might rear end the person in front of you! Even certified Isuzu mechanics can't work on the truck - 12 times to the shop and it still isn't repaired! The ABS went and now the rattling noises have started, along with the check engine light and the spastic gas gauge - the truck is JUNK! Similar Products Used: Isuzu Trooper - would never buy another Trooper either - it had electrical problems too! |

Strength:
The V6 has nice power and it rides nice as long as you don't miss a tire rotation.
Weakness:
Hit the 50,000 mile mark and within 100 miles the problems started. Not a bad vehicle overall but can't afford to get rid of. Unless you plan on owning the vehicle till it dies, think twice about buying one. The new vehicles are alway being discounted and you will find that you will always be $4000-$5000 upsidedown. I can now buy a new one for less money than I owe on the 3 year old. It doesn't make sense. The price I paid was considered a good price 3 years ago. |

Strength:
Tough and reliable. After-market add-ons are improving in availability, but so what. It comes stock with more 4x4 capability than most 4x4's have after a lot of aftermarket modding. Including Jeeps.
Weakness:
Fairly unrefined; not the greatest handling and ride is rough. Engine, while torquey and quite adequate off-road, would benefit from more power for comfortable high-speed cruising. 4x4 V6. Rugged and fun, good for running up and down unimproved forest roads and ranch access roads in BLM land and national forrests. Not terribley refined, though, but that doesn't matter when it can take as much abuse as it does and keep running well. |

Strength:
In 1999 it had the most HP in it's class. It does well off road. Steering is predictable. Tows 4500#'s
Weakness:
Weak A/C, weak & mushy brakes, built with quite a few inferior components, Rear defrost/wiper not that good. uses copious amount of oil. Cruise & 4X4 button too close together, similar looking and unlit. I rearended someone at a stop by letting off the brake, just by tapping the other car @ idle caused $1200 in damage to mine. I've never had more problems with a vehicle and I've owned a few. I bought this new from the dealer in FEB99. Lets start with the small stuff. Rear cup holder REALLY bad design. It's hard to keep closed. AC is under powered, only works well at highway speeds. Gas gauge sensor went out at 52k and costs $580 to fix. ABS module went out at 48k and fell under warranty...Thank god. Rear ABS sensor went bad around 54k. This truck used to use 1 quart of oil per 3k miles, it's now up to 3 quarts/3k miles. I have an oily residue on the tailgate just above the tail pipe. Now, on rainy days, I can see gas puddles under the front of the car. I've owned cars with over 100k on them and never had any of these problems. I've done all the reccomended maintainece and getting frustrated. I will never buy another Isuzu again Similar Products Used: 1986 Ford bronco |

Strength:
Heat is okay A/C is okay
Weakness:
Rough ride to heavy truck like, it is similar to driving a U-Haul truck. Gas consumption is not a joke. Very thirsty. Burns a great deal of oil, need to change every 2,000 miles or 2 months instead of every 3,000 miles or 3 months. Radio system is no good. Loud clunky noise is becoming a headache. Motor for rear window wiper is burned out (was not operating when purchased, cost to much to have replaced). Can only purchased parts from dealer, not available at major auto parts stores. I have been reading the other reviews from Isuzu Rodeo owners. It seems as though we all are experiencing the same problems. I purchased my vehicle used in Sept. 2001. It had 24,000 miles when purchased. I have had to take the vehicle to the dealership several times for the "Check Engine" light keeps coming on and staying on. The truck now has a little over 74,000 miles. It shakes like it is going through withdrawals. It has poor gas mileage, the oil has to be changed on a regular basis. I have had to have the brakes replaced. When going over potholes here in Chicago one has to brace themself. The truck has to sit and warm up for about 10-15 minutes in temperatures over 50 degrees, if not it shakes really bad and shuts down. I see where it has a built-in alarm system which I do not have a remote for. The stereo system is terrible. I am experiencing the rattling and loud sounds as if there is something falling apart from the area around the front tire on the driver side. Someone stole my driver side mirror while parked on the street overnight. I am having the hardest time trying to find a mirror, can anyone help point me in the direction where I can purchase one. I contact one dealer and was told that the whole mirror unit has to be replaced and it cost $151 w/o tax. The labor would run about $82-$85 per hour. I have had to have other work done and it has been costly. I am very concern about the "Check Engine" light. I have been told by a mechanic that the vacuum hose has come unattached and this is causing the light to come/stay on. The truck rides somewhat smooth over level, smooth roads but it is terrible going over railroad tracks and potholes. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder |

Did 90,000 maintenance, got it back and it makes a terrible whining noise at a cold start up and goes away after a couple of minutes. Warranty replaced alternator, pulleys for belts and water pump and no help. Dealer threw their hands up until it happens more frequently. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Very noisy with rear windows open, cup holder in back broken from start, wont close. Tire wear is very quick and wears uneven. Eats oil and I can't keep fluid in the radiator. Had pressure checks not no issue there. Seat belt squeeks when you breath. good car and I like it Similar Products Used: 1993 Rodeo, manual trans, still runs great! |

Strength:
Good power. Good sound stock sound system. Even though the look has not changed much in the last 10 years I think it is the best looking SUV out there. Priced to sell compared to similar vehicles.
Weakness:
Don't expect the ride to be like a sedan or an Explorer. It handles and rides like a truck. At 0% interest one of the best vehicle GM Canada makes. Similar Products Used: RAV4, Explorer |
