Strength:
styling,cabin plushness and general comfort

I want to have the same gripe as most owners, gas usage seems not as good as it should be, but I dont beleive that the tank gets fully full, on empty I can only put in about 15 gallons, so does that mean that there is 4 and a gal. left in reserve? I just happen to love my axiom,i have owned two other from new. I do feel the ride is a little stiff but I have rode in my brothers BMW and In laws volvo and both cars ride like my axiom. I must say that I bought mine at a huge discount, so I'm pretty happy about that. We drove our axiom to South Carolina July of 2003 and had a wonderfull trip the axiom performed like a trooper (laugh), we had no problems at all, all I can say is that own one and you will understand Similar Products Used: Isuzu p-up (94) new. I have had several brake problems. Several times I have tried to stop and the brakes would not work. I brought it in at 3000 and 5000 miles and was told the rotors were out of round. At 15000, I am having to bring it in again for the same problem. This is a great SUV. Compact size but lots of room. Looks like a luxury SUV without the luxury price. Lots of options the come standard. i like the message center |

None that I can think of NOW!!!!!
Weakness:
Small and uncomfortable - not enough leg room, Very rough ride - can feel every single bump in the road, Realiablity - transmission went just at one years old - dealer service tech could not find what the problem was - one week later the car caught on fire while being driven, Parts costly - have to special order rear windsheild wiper blades, air filters and brakes and have them replaced by the dealer - very costly and not worth the hastle. DO NOT BUY THIS AUTOMOBILE - IT CATCHES ON FIRE!!!!Purchased this automobile the summer of 2002 brand new off the lot, fully loaded - what a beauty. Went in for a new Trooper but was talked into the Axiom because it was replacing the Trooper. Started hating the care a couple of months later - the ride was rough, the gas mileage was ridiculous (I was getting 15 miles to the gallon), and it seemed that any normal type of part had to be special ordered from Isuzu and replaced by the dealer which was another ridiculous and expensive task - air filters, rear wiper blades and brakes. The real problem didn't start happening until it was just a year old, the car felt like it was slipping, the transmission that is. It go so bad that I almost didn't make it home one night from work - the car just wouldn't drive well. I called the delar and was told to bring it in, again it almost didn't make it to the shop. The problem was then determined to be that the seal on the transmission fluid chamber was leaking so it was replaced. The car seemed to run better after that. A week later the problem started again and got much worse and this time the transmission light in the message center came on. I called the dealer repair shop and was told to bring it again but the car was not drivable so I had it towed in. The repair shop had it for almost a week driving it and running diagnostics on it. They couldn't seem to get it to "act up". They determined that the car seemed to run a little hot and this may be the cause of the car slipping and was told that when it happened to stop driving the car and let it "cool off". The problem should go away - whatever!!! Well another week passed and the car seemed to be doing fine until one morning going to work, the car started slipping again so I pulled over to let it "cool off" as I was told. I waited about 20 minutes and then started on my way again. It was maybe no more than 20 minutes after that that people started honking at me and trying to get my attention, I kind of blew them off until this man stopped his car in the middle of the road, got out and flagged me down. When I pulled over flames started coming up the sides of the doors and through the floor on the passenger side - what was going on??? I opened the driver door and had to jump to keep from getting burned. Yes, this car was just just a year old. This happed two weeks ago. I am still waiting to hear from my insurance company to see they are going to do for me, what the cause was and who was going to pay me for a new car. Do NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!!!! Powerful V6, Bold styling, Isuzu quality

No GPS option, Limited front armrest storage due to 6 CD changer I just turned 28,000 miles on my Axiom and I am still very happy with my purchase. In 1 1/2 years of ownership, I have had it in the shop only once. This was because the intelligent suspension system light came on. It was discovered that the tires were over inflated (I had mistakenly inflated them to 32 PSI when the owners manual calls for 26 PSI). That aside, this vehicle has been very reliable and trouble-free. This is the 3rd Isuzu that I have owned in the last 4 years and they all have been virtually trouble-free. I have been averaging 20-21 MPG on the highway and 17-18 in the city. Very respectable numbers considering the size and weight of this vehicle. Overall, I am very pleased and I would recommend the Axiom to any SUV buyer that is considering a mid-sized SUV. Weakness:
Drivers side leg room narrow Controls difficult to get use to I have 27000 miles on my Axiom without a problem. At about 20k the gas mileage improved abut 2 mph in both city and highway. Before that it got the exact mpg that was listed on the sticker. The TOD transmission setting works perfectly in snow. It's nice to have an SUV that does not look like every other one on the road. Strength:
Fairly comfortable interior, nicely equipped in 2002/equipemtn deleted from base in 2003, reasonable interior volume.
Weakness:
Terrible transmission/driveline, poor fuel economy, ugly/cheap hard dash, rattling windows, non-compliant suspension, sloppy/slow steering response, no height/tilt adjustment for power seat(why bother?), poor placewment of alarm system LED. What a joke! Poor quality control, built-in problems (driveline slop), terrible transmission, rattling windows, the worst mileage of any vehicle I have owned, very poor suspension over any surface, accessories way too expensive, an absolute disappointment in this very competitive SUV Market. Strength:
Lots of power, superp handling
Weakness:
Stereo doesn't go loud enough. Transmission is made in France. SUCKS! I drove this new vehicle home and within 120 miles the "Check Trans" light started flashing. It was discounted 9000 off sticker but was driving OK but the car had 15 miles on it when I bought it. It was NEW. Well, 8 days later, it's still at the dealer waiting a new transmission. I can only guess that this trans was swapped out at an unscrupulous dealer or something. The dealer I bought it from recieved 6 of these vehicles from another dealship that couldn't sell them. They've been good to me about this thing and given me a car to drive in the meantime. Isuzu doesn't supply this, so the dealer is taking the hit on me putting miles on a loaner. Other than this bit, the car is awesome! I love the thing. Time may make me hate it, but after this initial road bump, it may all work out. Geez, I hope. |

Axiom 2wd
Strength:
Built in Indiana, a real frame, neutral handling and precise steering, interior space, easy to wash exterior, brawny enough engine, pretty good in snow even if not FWD, 120+ mph :-), headlights and overall fit and finish.
Weakness:
25-30 mpg'd be nice; lack of accurate low fuel info; sound system's a little shallow in the midrange; accessory outlets dead when key off; long warranty goes to half if bought used. The Axiom first caught my eye when it appeared on the auto show circuit in '01 (which I worked for 3 years). Having owned two Troopers, the modern and feature loaded interior amazed me. Not being able to swing a new one and having a '94 Impala SS (Poor man's M5) which declined in value to a mere 7 grand I had to be patient. I spotted mine across the street from the Isuzu dealer, on a Dodge dlrs lot; 2,200 miles! That was in October '02 and now in June '03 I've put 27,600 on it doing vehicle inspections. I love almost everything about this truck. It's run almost exclusively on the hiway, using sport suspension and power trans modes. I've averaged about 21 MPG and use Mobil 1 oil. Made it to 400 miles one tank and ran out once at 326 (carry a spare gallon now) Handling is more neutral than a BMW (less push) will actually do 4 wheel drifts on twisty county roads and can be "steered with your foot" The 17 inch wheels realy "roll" well through broken pavemant too. My biggest gripes have to do with the fuel indicators; there's three gallons left when the reserve light comes on (= 60+ mi. range!) and range indicator goes to "low fuel" IOW's it works great until needed most!! Also, the accessory pwr outlets are not hot unless the key's on, grrr. The electronic compass sometimes takes 10-15 minutes to find itself. I love this new class called "crossover": station wagons on steroids... Similar Products Used: 2 & 4 door Troopers, wife's 86 Volvo wagon (yuck) and two Toyota pickups. |

Strength:
V6 engines, 3.2, 3.5 are awesome in the Colorado mountains. Can't hurt the truck, takes a beaten and keeps on ticken.
Weakness:
3.1 V6 in older Rodeo's a bit weak, but she's held her own for 200K For all you Isuzu owners - I have owned Isuzu products for years, including 2 current Rodeo's (91 & 97). The isuzu engines are louder than most cars, some people come to cherish that. I have, and I too always know when an Isuzu is coming down the street. There is nothing wrong with your engine, and if you take care & every 3K oil changes, those puppies last a LONG time too. Suspension is a bit rough, moreso with heavier tires - which come on the 4x4 or 96/97 Rodeo's. Both of my trucks are fairly stiff riders, and bounce with pretty good bumps - however they are fantastic off the black-top and will far out drive any other SUV as long as it's maintaned. Important thing to remember, Isuzu doesn't build cars, they build trucks - and are known for having excellent reputation in longetivity for engine, suspension, and tranny. Therefore, your Isuzu may tend to ride rougher/harsher than you prefer, however, you bought an SUV, not a car. Similar Products Used: 1991 Rodeo 1997 Rodeo 1996 Trooper |
