Lots of options, good price, unique styling
Weakness:
Transmission problems, horrible resale value, suspension modes are either too soft or hard, Isuzu won't stand behind their vehicles DON'T BUY THIS CAR!!! This seems to be a recurring theme in this forum about transmission problems. I was on my way to a wedding in the middle of nowhere with my wife and 3 month old son in the car and the TRANSMISSION GOES OUT! Of course I purchased it used and its out of warranty with just 72,000 miles on it and no one at Isuzu will help out of course. The car is beautiful with lots of options on it and has a great price tag, but horrible quality. Suspension kept getting worse and worse the longer I have owned it. If anyone would like to go in on a class action lawsuit against Isuzu, please email me at oldschoolcivic82@hotmail.com. Isuzu states on thier home page of their website that they stand behind their vehicles. Obviously they don't from my experience and many others I have read about. Please do yourself a favor and do not buy one of these. They have horrible resale value and poor quality. Truck is FAST ! Many vehicles out there don't have 250 hp and can't keep up with it. Great styling, kick ass stereo, in dash computer.
Weakness:
Gas mileage-enough said locks don't lock automaticly Not much storage room, especially in the console but its a good trade off to get the changer I lusted for one of these for some time. Right after I bought my Montero Sport, they came out and then they discontinued them as of the 04 model. I found a small dealer that was oferring $7000 off MSRP and only had 5 of them. I was able to swing a deal for one of those. So far I have had no issues of course it is only a few weeks old. Love the speed, it can quickly get away from you if not carefull. Definately get you out of some tight spots with all that power. I also am very pleased with the ride and the onboard computer. Smooth ride, has handled well off road. Good gas mileage for an SUV. Amazing Cargo Space for it's size.
Weakness:
Stereo can't be changed to afterstock. I first test drove this car and found it rode to me LIke a Honda Accord but handled and felt like a trooper. I checked out the info on the car and found it fit what I needed as my 1991 Trooper LS was dying. I got it used and it has worked like a charm. The milage isn't bad for an SUV. I haven't had any problems except that due to an accident Parts have so far had to be original factory model and take a couple days to get. But I don't mind that. I am currently unable to change from TOD to 2W but that has been since I bought new tires and I'm going to get that checked at the dealer as soon as he's out of the shop. The only complaint at all as far as original design was that the Stereo is tied to the computer and I can't change it out for after stock. Oh well I'm living with it. I'm amazed that I fit a love seat in the back for a move with the easy to fold back seats. OF all I used I have loved the Axiom the best. Gas mileage, gas mileage, gas mileage. Also, 3 of my brake sensors became defective before the warranty expired. Transmission and rough ride are downfalls. Four times I have had an unusual problem with the transmission. The indicator light does not come on although the vehicle does go into gear. While accelerating, the car shifts 'rough' into the next gear. It feels as if the transmission is malfunctioning. I have found a way to remedy the problem, simply turn off the vehicle and get out for a couple of minutes. Upon return, the indicator light reappears and the vehicle works adequately. On the 4 occasions this has occured it has followed a short period of time of engine idle (approx 30 seconds to 1 minute) in park. It seems that this problem could be fixed with a recall if the manufacturer could find the root of the problem. Similar Products Used: Suburban |

Strength:
Not much!
Weakness:
Electronic suspension is horrible even when it isn't broken. Too soft or too firm. Overall quality of vehicle is very poor and Isuzu does not stand behind it's products. The Axiom has been the absolute WORST vehicle I have ever owned. The car currently has 66K miles and was purchased in September of 2001 at Red McCombs Isuzu in San Antonio TX. I purchased the vehicle in lieu of a Toyota 4 runner, thinking for the price and standard equipment I was getting a good deal. Wrong!! -At 1000 miles transmission began leaking (Fixed by dealer) -At 20,000 miles transmission began eradic shifting. (Dealer cannot find a problem?) -At 52,000 miles the electronic shocks failed and suspension was in sport mode only. (not covered under powertrain warranty) - At 58,000 miles transmission began to absolutely fail with consistent slipping in 2cnd and 3rd gears (take to dealer and they claim they cannot find a problem? B.S. and cost me $250 in rental car fees. -Take back to dealer immediately since transmission began failing, as soon as I drove away and a technician rides with me. Technician agrees now, that transmission is no good and must be replaced. -1 week later, the "new" transmission arrives and I take it back to dealer. I pay rental fees again! - I pick up the vehicle to notice the "new" transmission is shifting very hard and something is obviously wrong. The service manager and technician ride with me and drive the vehicle and both agree "new" transmission is no good and must be replaced again! Unbelievable!! Technician tells me that the transmission is made by GM (figures) and they are basically junk and require replacement on a regular basis. -So far 2cnd replacement transmission is working fine, but I am not confident it will last. Dealer finally pays for a rental car. -At 58K my AC quits working completely, after AC compressor makes strange noise. Told by dealer AC compressor is no good and must be replaced. Dealer cost to replace is $1400 parts and labor. I nearly have a coronary trying to undertsand why this cost so much, even for a dealer and why it would fail with so little miles? -I check other repair shops and find I can save only $300, due to the high cost of the compressor and the dryer needing to be replaced as well. -As a result of the many problems with this vehicle and poor service I have received from my dealer, I call Isuzu directly to file a complaint and look for some assistance with the cost of my AC repair and the electronic shocks. This process turned out to be a waste of time as they took my complaint and would not "allow" me to speak with anyone at Isuzu in a position of authority. Even after repeated attempts and getting angry, the Isuzu service rep, would not give any numbers or names of the zone manager or even his immediate supervisor. I finally got him to take a message for his supervisor, and the zone manager, which must have been a ploy to get me off the phone, because no one from Isuzu has ever called me regarding my issues. As I have read reviews on this site an others, Isuzu just doesn't care about it's customers after the sale. They build Junk vehicles and don't care about the people who buy them. Jerks! -Also, Red McCombs Isuzu is horrible and provided little care in helping with my vehicle issues. The initial AC diagnosis turned out to be I had to replace the evaporator as well, since a defect caused the failure of the compressor. Total out of pocket for me was $2000 at a reputible local asian automotive repair shop. I would not recommend an Isuzu Axiom or any other Isuzu product to my worst enemy or anyone else. Stay away from Isuzu and avoid the eventual pain of owning one. Similar Products Used: My 95 Isuzu truck was great. This is before GM parts were being mixed with the Japenese parts. |

Weakness:
Tires (but those are replaced for around ($500-$600). From the day I test drove it to today it has been everything that you want a SPORT utility to be. Accelerates 0-60 in less than 8n seconds (fastest in its class). Will out run a BMW X5 (know this from experience) or these other (so called SUV's). Interior out of this world. Gas milage is ok (16.6 mpg according to the on dash computer). The only compaint I have are the goodyear tires. Once I replaced those the character of the Axiom changed...got even better. The only SUV I liked better than the Axiom was the BMW X5 4.4L. But that is too pricy (over $60k). So, I think the only people who drive/own this vehicle and don't love it I have only one word for them, CHICKEN. If you are a weak hearted person then a word of caution, don't get it cuz it does burn pavement and accelerates like a sports car. This vehicle os for serios drives only and for those who love the experience of drivning. It is NOT your grandma's station wogon like the Jeep Cherokee. Very nice Interior/Exterior design. Enough power if needed.
Weakness:
Adjustable suspension is set on two extremes. It's either too soft or too hard. Parts breaks easily and spare parts aren't readily available. I was very happy with the performance and looks of this vehicle from the first year of usage but confidence with it drastically drops right after that. First the actuator on the suspension failed. The fan is getting louder and louder and now i have transmission problems. In addition to these problems spare parts aren't readily available...big inconvenience! |

Weakness:
Fuel mileage... about 18 mpg at this point, but that is average for this type of vehicle. I love this vehicle. I have a 100 mile communte to work and I love every minute of it. I drive on a road that is two lanes and resembles the autobahn and I am usually in the lead. The power is awesome. When searching for a vehicle my husband and I wanted to find something that met both of our needs. He wanted something with power and good looks and I wanted the "Cadillac" interior. I love the sport suspention mode. The handling reminded me of my previous sports car. The tan and black interior was an added bonus. It looks very classy. Every where I go people comment on how expensive it looks. I have no complaints about anything and I would buy another any day, but not from Denver Isuzu. They sold it as "new" with 1500 miles on it complete with a previous title and a scratch in the rear bumper covered up with touch up paint. This was partially my fault because I failed to notice. This has obviously not affected my opion of the "coolest" vehicle that I have ever driven. The dealership sucked, but I love the car and would highly recommend it to anyone. Interior, exterior, pick-up speed, price (I paid for)
Weakness:
Brakes started acting up a little once I hit 6k and so far I had to get the ignition switch replaced. When I first started looking for an upgrade from a Nissan Sentra I had originally had in mind a Santa Fe or a Sorento, but as soon as I saw the Axiom it started to grow on me. At first I had to get used to the loud engine, but the interior and exterior was to envy and I quickly fell in love with it. It was a '02 and had less than 1k miles on it and the price seemed like a bargain I could not refuse. The only thing I have to complain about is the milegae indicator which shows that I can still teavel 50-60 miles in less than an eighth of a tank. IS that correct? So far I had to have my ignition switch replaced and it looks like I might need new brake pads. It's been a couple of times where the car took more than a couple of steps after I had pressd the gas for it to stop. The back doors could have more room to get it, but none the less I'm happy with the product. The dealer was super nice and I would definately recommend them and they are out in Crystal Lake. |

I agree with Paul Ficca. Don't buy this car. Sadly, mine didn't catch on fire but apparently I "spun a bearing" meaning it's undriveable. At only 66,000 miles. |
