Transmission, transmission, transmission, transmission, transmission, .....

This is my second transmission failure. This time they can't tell me when parts will be available. I've already waited 6 weeks. It looks like another 2 weeks if I'm lucky. I'm paying for the rental car in the meantime. Isuzu refuses to do anything to help. The SUV is still (supposedly) under warranty. However, there is no guarantee at this point that they will meet their obligations. I will never again purschase a vehicle from this automobile company. Hopefully others learn from the way the current customers are treated. I have filed complaints with the FTC, BBB, and State Attorney General. If Isuzu thinks they will get away with mis representing their warranty, they picked the wrong guy.

Weakness:

transmission - Isuzu

Car is a piece of crap. I am into my second transmission with normal driving. Dealers blame drivers not the product. Dealers not interested in retaining developing customers just want to avoid repair charges. Outrageous cost ($50000+) for replacement transmission.

Styling - acceleration - comfort

Weakness:

Flaky transmission -

We bought this car new in 2001 mainly because of the styling and I had owned a 86 trooper that I ran into the ground. We currently have 63K miles and it is currently at the dealer for the 60K checkup. I told the dealership that we had had an issue with it shifting very rough a number of times but after you turned the car off and restarted it that went away. They ran a diagnostic on it and found that a electrical switch on the outside of the transmission was going bad and it would be $337 to replace it as that part was not part of the transmission. How a switch that controls the transmission is not a part of the transmission I don't understand. However besides that we have been very pleased with this vehicle. It has great pickup and has worn well. We had a Ford Explorer before and initially were disappointed with the cargo space in the Axiom but it is a lot quieter and rides a lot better than the Explorer. Overall we are satisfied with the vehicle and with our experiance with the dealerships we have worked with.

Aesthetics: Sharp looking vehicle inside/out. Interior: Love the fact that it comes fully loaded. Performance: I am not a huge car buff the performance was adequate for my purposes.

Weakness:

Engine/Transmission. My local dealership.

TRANSMISSION!!!!!!! Purchased my Axion in 2001 and immediately fell in love with it. Very sharp looking vehicle and comes fully loaded. Things got ugly after the initial courtship. My "FIRST" tranny sh*t the bed at 85,000 miles. I brought it to the dealership and was told that transmissions are currently out of stock and that my replacement transmission is on back order. I waited 2+ months to get my Axiom back. While parts & labor are covered under warranty, a loaner car is not covered. I had to pay for a rental car for over 2 months. I got my Axiom back and things seemed ok. Boy was I wrong. My "SECOND" tranny just crapped out on me about a week ago on New Years Eve at 105,000 miles (20,000 miles after the replacement). Despite my efforts no loaner or rental car assistance and no time line for the return of my vehicle. So I sit here and wait and write this review. My advice/observations is as follows: 1. I am absolutely convinced that I rec'd a refurbished or used transmission. Hence the 2 month delay. Be sure to ask your dealership. 2. If possible I would DUMP your Axiom immediately. The transmission will fail again as (from what I can gather) there is an issue with the pistons. The re-sale value on these cars are atrocious. I am so "upside down" on my loan that I plan on making double car payments. I cannot wait to unload this hot potato. 3. Perhaps I just had bad luck w/my Axiom but after reading other similar reviews I am convinced that the 2002 Axiom tranny/engine is a dud. 4. People always commented on how nice my Axiom was. To which I often replied "It's the best car that was never advertised." This got me thinking about Isuzu as a whole. In the corporate world when things are going well you see plenty of advertising. For example I always see tons of Nissan, Toyota, & GMC commercials. I cannot recall the last time I have seen an Isuzu commercial. I could be way off on this last observation but Isuzu may be in trouble. Previously I owned a '95 Nissan Pathfinder which I drove into the ground. I racked up 140,000+ miles on it AND its re-sale value was good. Ill prob go back to Nissan. Best of luck folks...

style and design, the interior is too sleek. handling is good. the power and speed is awesome.

Weakness:

gas mileage and the door locks dont lock automatically.

I fell in love with this suv the moment i saw it. I was shopping for a new Chevy Trailblazer and happened across this on the lot. This truck has amazing power and the TOD feature is awesome. The only problem i seem to have is the gas mileage, but after having the air filter replaced and the egr cleaned it improved alot. people are complaining about the transmission and i too complained until i realized how different this truck is. i know this truck is the best i've ever owned.

Weakness:

bad trade in value....bad transmission???

Very upset and confussed. Purchased the Axiom(which I love) almost 3 years ago. Have not had one problem. Can't complain about anything, love it. Until now...it began shifting weird and on a trip to my hometown the transmission started acting crazy. Transmission fluid all over the back of the car, smoke rolling out of the bottom. I was shocked! This car only has 67000 miles on it, these cars are supposed to go well over 100000 if not longer. Turns out it was a servo piston seal(excuse the spelling) and it was replaced. Now the question is, what are the chances that my transmission is going to fail? The trade in value is awful and I never thought that I would be getting rid of it but now I don't know. I love the car but can't be stranded by it. Aparently this seal is made of rubber and has been "rotting" off and causing this problem, however after doing some research, I have learned that the transmissions are failing shortly thereafter due to the damage that occurred to the transmission before the seal could be replace. I contacted Isuzu and was told that they don't know anything about it and will still cover it under the powertrain warranty IF it is a manufacturers defect. Well thats great and all but how will this look like a defect...anyways I am confused and upset over this whole situation. I don't know whether to sell it or see if it makes it and run the chance of Isuzu not covering a new transmission. This is the first vehicle I have bought outside of Chevrolet and I hope this doesn't turn out to be a very bad decision. However...I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so did the transmission fail? What was Isuzu's response? And if this is a common problem, then why is this not routinely check for leakes or cracking that could save a lot of future transmissions being bought and replaced and upset consumers????

Weakness:

Tires, paint & rust and transmission.

I use this car for my business and put atleast 20k miles on it per year. So far it has held up well. My only complaints are the transmission seems to shift very hard at times, the Goodyear tires that came on the car which I replaced, so far I've had to have the hood repainted by the dealer due to the clear coat cracking, and I've had to have the upper section of both rear doors under the weather stripping repainted due to rust. That was less than a month ago and the doors are rusting again.

Resale value

I just turned in my Axiom as the lease ended. I had 46800 miles on it. I was very sad to see it go and am writing here in support of the car. I would have bought it if the resale had been close to my buyback. I bouht mine in July, 2002 just after they came out. Other than regularly scheduled maintenance trips to the dealer, the car was in the shop for once, for three hours to fix a gas cap leak. Luckily, I guess, I did not experience any of the problems that other users have complained of. The car stood up great and was very user friendly. I will greatly miss the little computer screen that told you everything you needed to know. The interior lasted well. I can't speak to the problems others have had, but I loved my Axiom. It was a great car. My two issues with it, from day one, were a loose feel to the steering wheel and the front seats didn't go back far enough. The back seat had as much room as the front though. Good luck to those who end up with my car and to future Axiom owners.
