Model Reviewed: Amigo 205HP V6!!! Hardtop, 4WD

Strength:

-Great styling -I paid $18,900 for a fully loaded V6,4WD, w/ AC & ABS (during dealer incentives)- competing models from other manufacturers added about $5000 for a similarly equipped vehicle. -High powered V6 and great handling make for a very fun to drive vehicle -Smaller size makes easier urban parking w/o sacrificing too much storage capacity -I''ve found out w/ a simple 2 inch lift it can be a very capable off-road vehicle - how many other Mini-SUV''s have a 4-Lo gear? -2 sunroofs on Hardtop model

Weakness:

-hard to get into rear seats -Limited (but growing) aftermarket products -Poor resale value - buy this vehicle only if you plan to keep it. -blind spots,I got some blind spot mirrors and fixed this issue -The 205 HP V6 is very thirsty at the fuel pump, but what do you expect from a vehicle w/ this type of performance?

Didn''t even know there was an "amigo" until I literally bumped into one looking at Rodeo''s (now they''re called Rodeo Sports). When I looked closer, I realized this was the perfect vehicle for me - a small sized SUV w/ lots of power. This is actually a 2 door Rodeo (about 15 inches shorter) but has the same available V6 as it''s big brother. I am an onsite technician for a computer company and frequently have to battle w/ city parking. I wanted something Rav4 sized but was very disappointed w/ the power of these Mini-SUV''s. Since the rear seats tumble and fold, it''s been perfect for when I have to haul equipment for work. If I ever need to tow it''s got a 4500LB towing capacity. It''s got the top-rated V-6 in it''s class, but please be aware that this trades off in not-so stellar mileage. The only problem I''ve had is that being a two door, it''s a little hard to get into the back seats - but once anyone gets back there, they''re often surprised at how roomy it is. There seems to be more room back there than in my sister''s Rav4 that actually has two rear doors! Because this is my work vehicle, I don''t really use the back seats at all. If you are looking for a mini-sized SUV that you can park in tight-spots, decent cargo capacity, looks good, and satisfying acceleration and handling - you owe it to yourself to check this out. I now have over 40,000 miles on my Amigo and have never had any problems. It''s been reliable and overall very fun to drive. The Amigo/Rodeo Sport is a great vehicle for work and play. I must say that my love for the vehicle has only grown with use. My coworker liked mine so much he bought one, too! I actually wish I had the money to buy another one so I can keep this as my daily driver and make the other one my "off-roader". Isuzu has terrible marketing and I''ve noticed that their vehicles don''t get the credit they deserve. My good experience w/ my Amigo has actually influenced the purchase of our family vehicle, a 2002 Isuzu Axiom XS - another Isuzu we''re very happy with.

Strength:

Good performance (I got the V6 4x4 version); Looks good.

Weakness:

Lots of annoying little mechanical problems; Bad visibility out the back (especially in the winter when there''s salt) contributed to a parking lot fender bender and several near misses; Leaky and inconvenient soft top.

I wouldn''t recommend this vehicle. All kinds of things went wrong with it. First, about a week after I bought it, the plastic cover for the moonroof fell off onto my lap and couldn''t be replaced. Then the door started making rattling sounds when I opened and closed it. Then the interior light started to flicker on and off whenever I would hit a bump. I could go on but you get the idea. Nothing major, but lots of annoying little problems that suggest lack of attention to detail. And by the way, avoid Peters of Nashua. I really regret buying from them.

Strength:

Great in the summer when you can put the top down and take out the sunroof.

Weakness:

Weak and loud engine, numerous problems with steering, interior parts and engine. Unsafe vehicle. Horrible resale value! Buy a Jeep, it costs the same and you get 4 wheel drive standard!

Owned the truck for a year and a half and it lost almost half of its value in that time. After 10000 miles it started pinging, higher octane gas didn''t help. The steering wheel had a terrible clunk when you hit a small or large bump. It sounded and felt like it was going to fall off, Isuzu couldn''t figure out the problem and were not willing to figure out the problem. Timing belt was replaced at 15000 miles due to a recall, which stopped some of the engine noise. The truck has one of the worst safety ratings of all vehicles, we never felt very safe in it. Seats squeek when you move around in them. I could go on but won''t, there''s too much to list!

Strength:

Can get it in manual, convertable, 4x4, V6, fun to drive, does great in snow.

Weakness:

Passenager seatbelt, burns oil, wish I could have gotten it with out carpeting.

My husband and I both own an Amigo. His a 98 and mine a 99. We bought them because I owned a 91 and I just loved it. I haven''t had any problems with my 99 except for the stupid passenger seat belt locking and not unlocking until you take it off. It also happens on the 98. Now our 98 burns oil like crazy, where the 99 doesn''t burn at all. According to Isuzu, it can burn as much as 1 quart per 100 miles which I think is excessive. I have never had a newer car burn oil before. We took his 98 4x4 and not just a little bit. This was on a heavy course with 4x4''s that were not stock, which we were. Except for the low clearance, it did a really good. Because we don''t want to beat on this truck too much, we hope to buy another older Amigo and do mods to it for 4x4ing. Over all, I love my Amigo. My 91 was better because it had plastic flooring, and was made more for playing in the mud. Easy to clean up. But I still enjoy this one. It is nice to have a SUV and a convertable all in one.

Got the car for one year, Put on 28500 miles on it. At 10000 miles the car start knocking Accessively. They tried everything & can''t solve the problems. Now they said that the knocking is consistance with these car. Oh Please don''t believe the 10 warranty crab because they won''t warrant it. Anything happen to the car they will said that it is improper maintainance. Sure you can sue them and win but does it worth all the time, money and effort ??? So before you even start to go through all this, why not take my advice and avoid all isuzu car at all cost. Please be advice.

Visability Softop zippers hard to get back alligned Rattling from the Plastic cowling cover in back. ....its a wait and see...

Just purchased the 2 WD, V6, Auto Amigo and was influenced greatly by the reviews here! No big complaints so far... I foxed the visability problem by adding thoses little mirrors to the corner of my duel mirrors... now I don''t even bother trying to look out the sides... now as far as the back stop- light post and headrests and the softop window... well I will just have to live with the bad visability... V6 is quick on the dime and I''m impressed at the turing radious as well. Smooth ride... not as bumpy as everyone said it would be...

Model Reviewed: Isuzu Amigo 4X4 Soft Top

Strength:

-For me, the soft top has been a breeze to take on & off. I don''t know if it''s because it''s an aftermarket BesTop, If that''s the case, buy one! -Cool looks -Comfy Seats -Leg Room (6''5" boyfriends loves!) -Ride (for me) -Stereo Speakers Positioning -Fold down rear window :)

Weakness:

-No AC -No left foot rest next to the clutch pedal. -Carpet''s don''t hold color well. -Lack of cup holders -Prob''s with cigarette lighter -HorsePower (but it''s not a race car) -Back Door Lever Rusted -Blind Spots(forces you to be more aware!) -Undercarriage badly rusted(car was North)

After owning a ''96 Mitsu Eclipse that went through 2 accidents & a break-in, I wanted something completely different. I always thought the Amigo had an awesome look & seemed to be safer than Jeeps but better built than Trackers & such. I wanted the newest year I could afford & that left me to choose ''94. So I bought a grey ''94 w/ "Amigo" in red letters & pretty cool splash design stickers on both sides. The truck also ended up being 4X4 w/ 50,000 miles which I thought was great & a good price. During my test drive, I noticed the steering wheel shook @ 35, the guy driving w/ me, who had used the truck, said that they were going to have that looked @ b4 it left the lot. Also the Truck ad showed a CD player & that had to be done too. The above was done & then my first encounter with problems were noticed when I was having a tune up. The plugs & wires needed serious help & my fan blades were broken.(I really gave this car a thorough inspection-NOT-cause I JUST HAD to have it!) I got the plugs fixed, & left the fan for later. I had driven it a few weeks like that, what''s a few more. My truck also squeeked & made a grinding noise. I had a well known shop look @ it. The grinding was from a broken leaf spring. The truck also came w/out a passenger side mirror;so when I had them fix the squeeks and the leaf spring, they found a mirror at a junk yard & put it on. One day while going to lunch, a co-worker saw some leaking. It ended up being radiator fluid. Wasn''t too bad, so I went to lunch. After I got home the fluid just started spewing out. I called the shop that fixed the leaf springs & took the car straight to them. My water pump broke - then that got fixed. All summer I enjoyed the truck. Took the top off a bunch & had fun w/ passengers relaxing in the back - no off roading. Now winter...the tires that came with my truck sucked. All of them were about bald, dry-rotting & just ugly. So I wanted new awesome tires, the biggest I could get. I upgraded to 265/70R16. Wonderful! The truck looks even beefier & rides great. The problems above did sadden me, but that is what I expect w/ used cars. I buy one & get it into the best condition I can. Hopefully nothing major is about to happen.

Strength:

Built on a truck chassis. 16 inch tires/wheels. sporty looking. very nice interior for the price. Never leaked around sunroof or soft top. Feels very solid, not tinny at all. Plenty of room for backseat passengers Great factory installed sound system. Excellent tires. Versatile. soft top/hard top/sun roof pop up or remove plus interior sun roof cover when you don''t want the sun. Lots of storage for a SUV this size. Truck chassis enables you to ride higher for better visibility on the road. Handles very well in curves - very surprising. Spare tire same as the other 4 tires. Very durable soft top. Wheel locks on all wheels including spare. Windshield washer fluid resevoir holds at least one gallon of fluid. Lots of FUN!

Weakness:

Rear window visibility is poor during inclement weather. Extra caution when changing lanes due to blind spots. 4 cylinder engine is fine but V6 would be the way to go next time I purchase

A ton of fun! Good looking! And the price was right for a 4x4 of this kind. My kids love to have the top down during the summer. At higher speeds, just roll up the window and a large portion of wind is knocked down for passengers sitting in the back seat. Having a running board or step up is a must for back seat passengers, and makes it alot easier to get in and out of the vehicle. It is fun and versatile! I test drove the Rav 4, Jeep CJ5, Jeep Cherokee, Ford Explorer and Chev Blazer - Not near the leg room and back passenger seat room, nor storage.

Model Reviewed: Isuzu Amigo

Strength:

*Powerfull 2.6L 4-cyl. *Fun to drive. *Looks cool with offroad gear. *Fun to drive. *Plenty of room for 4 people *Fun to drive.

Weakness:

*Problems after 125,000 miles *Gas mileage is only about 19mpg *Heavy! 4,300lbs. (Explains the mileage) *Difficult to find parts. *Difficult to get the top off.

Style is the number one reason I bought this thing. Large tires, brush guard, fog lights, light bar, and 4 wheel drive are all tell-tale signs that it''s meant to go off road! The bigger 2.6L 4-cyl is definately better than the smaller 2.3L, but not as powerfull as the V-6. Unfortunately, I started having problems about 2 months after I bought it. I noticed a knocking sound whenever the engine stressed (uphills, strong acceleration, etc.). Finally I lost a considerable amount of power, and found out the head gasket had been blown, along with a hairline crack in the aluminum head. Aparently, this is a common problem with 1st generation Amigo''s around 125,000 miles. Finding a new head for a ''93 Amigo is near impossible, so I had the head specially welded and resurfaced and saved myself a couple hundred. I may live to regret this one. Other than that, it runs great! Gets up to highway speed with no real problems. Downshifting up hills is a must, but is understandable with a 4-cyl. It is VERY fun to drive with the top off, although getting the hard-top cover on and off is a two man job. There''s plenty of room in the back seat for 2 people, once they get past the front seats. I have had no problems with leaks from either of the sunroofs, even in heavy rainstorms. Winter is coming up, and in the Buffalo, NY area, it will be a real test of cold-climate durability. If you''re a single person with a few friends that like to go out on the town, this is the vehicle for you. A fun commuter, although gas mileage is something to be desired. This is probably due to it''s 4,300lb dry weight. If you can find a used one with under 75,000 miles, I would definately suggest laying down some cash!
