Strength:

Car is just great all around.

Weakness:

I believe the dealerships mechanics are not well trained.

The Sonata runs and rides just great. I get 30 plus miles to the gal. on the open road doing 80 MPH with AC on.My daughter has a 2001 Santa Fe. We are happy with our choices. I believe the major problem with the vehicles is the service personnel. I think they throw the computer on and then give you what ever answer they can come up with. I had a heating problem with the Sonata and it took me several trips to the dealership before they finally corrected the problem. It is my experience that most of todays "mechanics" have no idea of what they are doing unless a computer tells them what to do. If the computer says it is all good thats all they know how to deal with. Another area that I was irritated about is the check engine light came on on a trip we had made through Oregon. I mention Oregon because in that state THEY pump your gas, not you. According to my book it said to take the car to my dealership as soon as convient. I did. The dealership charged me $40 bucks to tell me the gas cap strap was stuck under the gas cap so the tank was not completely sealed. Now Hyundai could have suggested I look at the cap in the manual but they did not. The dealership could have been Mr Nice guy and said there was no charge as there was no work completed actually. A little time but that was all. I now only go to the dealership for warrenty repairs and thankfully they are non-existence at this time. HAve over 50,000 miles.

Best looking in it's class - BEFORE it self-ignited.

Weakness:

Insurance company told me that the piston flew through the oil pan leading to FIRE!

@ almost 2 years to the day, vehicle caught fire and exploded. See www.flaminghyundai.blogspot.com. Under full warranty, but Hyundai and Reliable Imports don't want anything to do with it so far. 24,500 miles and KABOOM! We never altered this vehicle, and it never gave us any problems prior to explosions and spontaneous combustion.

Model Reviewed: 2.4 CDX 5 Door 4WD

Strength:

Quiet, comfortable, safe and reliable at a price that puts other SUV manufacturers to shame. There are better soft-roaders out there, but nothing that gets near in terms of value for money.

Best warranty in the UK - Five years fully transferable.

High levels of standard equipment, almost nothing else to buy except maybe SatNav.

Plenty of passenger and luggage space - when the rear seats are folded down the back is cavernous. Also there is the option of using the standard roof bars to carry even more.

Weakness:

There really aren't very many to mention. If I'm being picky, I'd say that more of the switches could have been illuminated for ease of use at night. The trip computer doesn't really seem to be worth bothering with - it appears to be calibrated in US gallons which isn't much use in England!

I'm six feet tall and find that the driver's seat adjustment only just about goes low enough to suit me. I would have thought that anyone over about 6 feet 2 inches tall would be quite uncomfortable in the Santa Fe. Maybe there's more headroom in the models without a sliding sunroof?

Lastly - and not really a weakness, more of a design fact - the Santa Fe is not equipped to be a serious off-roader, but it will cope with farm tracks and grassy fields OK, and looks like it would be a good tow car.

This is my first SUV and I'm really enjoying using it. I like the high driving position, the generous level of standard equipment and the overall comfort of the car.

I know it's early days yet, but my Santa Fe was delivered to me in faultless condition throughout and it has been 100% reliable so far. I have free 3-year roadside assistance and a five year warranty, so I should be well covered if anything untoward happens.

As the new Santa Fe model was on the horizon, I got a really good deal on my car, one of the last of the outgoing models to be sold in the UK. It was very well equipped as standard - no need to spend much on options, although I did shell out an additional £300 on privacy glass.

There's loads of luggage space and plenty of room for five adults. It's easy to drive - my wife, who generally hates driving anything larger than her Mazda sports car - has taken to it like a fish to water.

Performance with a 2.4 petrol engine is adequate rather than scintillating, but I knew that before I bought it. It pulls away from the lights smartly enough, and it can break all the speed limits we have in England, so what more do you need?

Handling is fine around the twisty country roads near my home, and when on a long run, the cruise control makes motorway driving a doddle. I haven't taken it seriously off-road, so I can't comment on its cross-country abilities, other than to offer the opinion that having had professional training in off-road driving, if that's what you want to do, I'd recommend you to get a Land Rover!

I am very happy with my 2006 Santa Fe Limited edition.
The ride is smooth and quite, there is plenty of room and it has everything I wanted in a SUV.
I have been getting an average of 20 mpg, more than I expected with the 3.5 engine.

Good looking

My 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5L Engine has been giving me problems sense I’ve had it. When I press my foot on the gas it hesitates to accelerate then it take off fast as if something hit me from behind and the wheel spine. It’s especially uncomfortable to drive in the rain and snow, I think it is a severe safety issue and afraid I will cause an accident. It’s very difficult to get a smooth acceleration. I took it to dealer to have it looked at; they put it on the computer and said the computer found nothing wrong. I call again to have it looked at and someone in the service department said that the 2005 models have a no wire system; he called it a Drive By Wire System. They said its nothing they can do.

Handles well in rain and snow. Quiet ride.

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage Lack of drivers side leg room

I purchased a 2004 Sante Fe GLS 4WD, with the 2.7 V6 last December. At first my mileage wasn't very good, which I was told that the engine needed to be broken in. 16,000 miles later there is no change. I'm still getting an average of 13mpg city and 15mpg highway, no matter who drives the vehicle. Dealers are no help. The service dept. simply states if he "check engine" light isn't on then everythings ok. Funny thing is that when you're looking to purchase, they all say that Hyundai's usually get the sticker mileage or better. Far from the truth. I would have been better off with a full size SUV.

We really like the car but are concerned over the level of road noise. It might be the tires which are BF Goodrich Radial Longtrail T/A because the noise seems to change based on the type of road. The dealer says they don't hear any abnormal road noise.

Strength:

10 year/100,000 mile warranty, 5 year unlimited mileage roadside assitance, gas mileage, service dept. at Hyundai dealer, smooth ride, price, overall quality.

Weakness:

Hyundai still needs to prove themselves as a brand to some people - slowly but surely they will!

I've had my Santa Fe for 3 years and could not be happier with it. I have the V6 2.7 liter engine, auto transmission. The gas mileage is great, the ride is smooth (the suv is built on a car base), the radio is great, the standard features are ones that you would have to pay a great deal more for if you bought a similar SUV such as the Ford Escape, Honda CRV, or the Toyota Highlander. Hyundai is a brand that is slowly making a name for itself. A new president took over the company in 2001 and since then they have done a complete 360. Service is great, your vehicle is covered for 100,000 miles or 10 years (whichever comes first) and you have 5 years UNLIMITED MILEAGE roadside assitance. For those of you considering the Santa Fe who have read the negative reviews from customers who owned 2001-2002 or earlier vehicles - PLEASE BE AWARE THEIR SERVICE DEPT HAS CHANGED AND IS NOW TOP NOTCH. My truck is now at 30,000 miles and the only service problem I've had is that I heard a rattling noise from behind the glove compartment - took it in, turned out since i park my truck under a tree everyday some leaves built up in the ac fan and that's the noise i heard. Hyundai now has a policy: Drop your car off before 6pm and the following day a mechanic will work on your car and you are guaranteed to have it back by 6pm that day. Hyundai would not back up their cars for 10 years unless they were of quality. Interior is roomy. I can't say enough about this truck!! Test drive the others, then buy a Hyundai. Great Crash Test Ratings as well. You def. get your moneys worth! BTW - the 2006 Sonata is a "Hyundai like you've never seen before" Dual Chrome Exhaust System, everything - this car is the works! Go Test Drive it as well as the Santa Fe!
