Strength:
The look is nice. The truck is a smooth ride other than the problems I mentioned.
Weakness:
The unknown problems that even the Dealership can't seem to fix or pin point dealing with the nosies under the hood. The truck is loud at exceleration and not enough power. No sun roof. Too delicate. Service for this truck is like pulling teeth. After one year from when I purchased the Santa Fe is when the problems started. Keeping in mind this all happened after the warrenty has expired. First off the rattling noise coming from under the hood down by the wheel area. Rattling turned into clicking and rattling. I took the truck to four different mechanics and the Huyndai Dealer withing the past month. Not one of them knew what the noise was but at the time they acted as if they've pin pointed it. So I have gotten my oil changed, a major tune up, my oxgen and speed sensors changed, my front driver side axle replaced, my bumper taken off and my air cond. fan and radiator bracket adjusted, as well as two diagnostic checks. Costing me a whooping $2000. But as of today the noise is still louder and stronger as ever at eceleration and now even when then truck is idling but moving. I personally accessed that it could be the throttle body, a caliper bolt, bushings or bearings, transaxcle, crank shaft, idle solenoid. If anyone knows for a fact what this is please let me know. Looks. Price.
Weakness:
It's still a Hyundai and didn't last even to 80k for me. I'm sticking with reputable names from here on out. I've had the Santa Fe for a few years now. Got the 2.4L 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive. Looks good, comfortable ride. Radio light went out at about 55,000 miles and it wasn't covered for some reason; wasn't a big deal because the radio still worked it just didn't light up. I was generally happy with it and no major problems up until about a week ago. The motor seized up after 77,000 miles and the warranty did not cover it. I've had the oil changed at regular intervals and never rode it hard, but the reason they said is because the timing belt was not changed at 60,000 miles which they require. My only problem with this is that if a timing belt broke or jumped, your valves would be bent but the crank shaft bolt would still turn and this motor was completely locked. After pulling the head off, it was a single valve that had come loose from the clip and fell into the cylinder causing major damage. If it were a timing belt jump I would think ALL or at least most of the valves would be bent(at least more than just one). Nethertheless I am thousands of dollars in the hole and there isn't much I can do about it unfortunately because I didn't follow the guidelines to the T. Hope you guys can learn from my experience!!! Make sure you have the maintenance done when they say and save your paperwork or they'll get you on a technicality! |

TOO MANY TO LIST I have owned this car for 2 years now and have been to the dealership more times than I would like due to the following issues that can never be duplicated (accroding to the dealership). In the beginning the air bag light would not turn off and we had to take it back three times before they actually shut it off. About five months after purchasing the car we began to here to here a faint rattling noise underneath the car when going uphill to which the dearlership insists they can't here. One year later in September 2004 my daughter and I are on our way to work and school creeping in traffic when the car stalls out. The car starts back up and a half mile down the road it stalls out again. To make a long story short this issue has occured repeatedley and the crank shaft sensor was replaced the same year and here we are in a whole new year and the problem still exists and can't be duplicated. Also the faint rattling noise underneath the car is now loud enough for everyone to hear to which an exhaust pipe of some sort was replaced and the noise is still there. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE I AM AT A LOSS!!!!!!!! IF ANYONE HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUES PLEASE RESPOND IMMEDIATLY!!!!!!!! |

Great commuter vehicle. Good gas mileage for an SUV. Roomy interior. Very smooth ride and comfortable to drive. The back seat is extremely comfortable.
Weakness:
Tends to get slow when AC is on. It tends to get slow when there are 5 passengers. Prior to the Santa Fe, my wife and I had the 00'Hyundai Accent. Great little car and awesome in gas mileage. I was going to buy the V6 of the Santa Fe but I decided to go for the 4 cycl. since my wife commutes and put 64+ miles a day on the SUV. Also gas mileage and insurance was important. We rack up even more mileage during the weekend. I am hoping to buy another small car like the Accent so I could keep the mileage down on my SUV. I'm very please with the SUV and having a 100k warranty has been great as well. No mechanical problem. Similar Products Used: Hyundai Accent. |

Strength:
Roomy; Easy to park.
Weakness:
Oil consumption. A quart every 2000 miles is not acceptable. I have the four cylinder, five speed version. I am quite pleased with the vehicle at 15,000 miles. The AC fan switch went out at under 10,000 miles, but was fixed promptly by the dealership. My only complaint is oil consumption. It is using a quart every 2000 miles, which I consider to be excessive. My Santa Fe replaced a twenty year old, full size Chevy van, a diesel with almost 300,000 miles. The old van only used a quart of oil every 3000 miles. I am disappointed that a new car uses so much oil. Similar Products Used: None |

Santa Fe LX
Strength:
The 3.5 liter V6, gas milage for a 6 cylinder SUV is competative, quiet.
Weakness:
Cheap "leather" seats. Could use an upgrade. The Santa Fe is great on snow and ice. The vehicle is roomy, well constructed, quiet. Friends that have the Ford Escape say that it is much more quiet than their Escape. The problems that I had included the the digital odometer was bad (the 10,000 mile digit was burned out) and the transmission computer needed replaced because of the way it shifted. Otherwise the vehicle is great. All work has been done under warantee. I highly recommend the 3.5 liter engine. It gets milage equivalent to the 2.7 litre and has a good bit more power. very unreliable,hi gas consuption I fierst wrote 1 year ago after 3rd transmission was replaced. Now I have long wait to get 4th(takes over week to obrain new).In meantime I was asked what was changed last time.Nobody gave me detailed list what was replaced. Conclusion is there are many variables, and nothing "complete" was replaced.Worse, for long time I can not drive any distance, esp.not in some far country.Obviously this car is absolutly unreliable and not worth paying for such lemon. It appears nothing impresses the dealers or district menagers, they see such events frequently. This car is unusable they repair or not.Worst nithmare in my 50 years of driving. Santa Fe GL AWD
Strength:
-Build quality (no squeaks/rattles after 3+ years). -Styling (still looks great vs. the competition) -Service from our dealership has been EXCELLENT!
Weakness:
-Better city mileage would be nice. When I initially wrote a review of our new Santa Fe, I may have been suffering from the "new car high"...well, I STILL am. Our Santa Fe has continued to impress us so much that I have continued to recommend to anyone who will listen that it has truly been an excellent vehicle for our family. Not a problem to date with the vehicle (mechanically or otherwise). I still regard it as one of the most unique/best looking vehicles in this class. Initally, my impression was that with the 2.7L V6 that it might be slightly underpowered, and may not get the best fuel economy, but I was proven wrong. It has enough to take us over city streets or backcountry dirt with ease and we've had very good fuel economy so far (highway is excellent, city acceptable). The AWD/4WD drivetrain works with ease on even the messiest of roads (mud or snow), and with the "shiftronic" feature, 'gearing down' in bad weather is easy. Since we first purchased our Santa Fe, we've had two children, and with all the "extra stuff" you have to take with you everywhere you go, there is still plenty of room for all of us (and our stuff)! This is still a very practical vehicle for our expanded family, and I would recommend it without hesitation. Similar Products Used: CR-V, Rav4, Escape |

smooth ride,stylish looking,good stereo,roomy inside,10 year warranty...

gas milage.my v6 2.7 consumes averagely 17m per gallon freway and city. I have owned this 2004 Santa Fe v6 for 4 months,so far so good.it runs great, very smooth like a car,it looks look,it's roomy like a mid-sized SUV and it's comfy, the stereo is very good.it's fun to drive. Before purchasing this one, i did some reaserch online and i found CRV is underpowered but no cheaper,Highlander is too pricy,Exploer does not have too much good reviews, and the others around $20000 is not worth of considering.
