safety, reliability, room, comfort. GREAT ON GAS MILEAGE! Keyless entry, alarm, lights turn off without you having to.
Weakness:
DON'T BUY THE COLOR BLUE! I don't think people can see you, it blends in to the pavement so well. Ohter than that no real weakness. One of the safest vehicles I've ever owned. We totaled it, almost 9,000 worth of damage and all 4 of us walked away from it without a scratch. It was hit from behind and then pushed into a telephone pole. The pole broke and fell on the roof and the very back window blew out from the impact. We all had our seatbelts on too. Airbags did not deploy though. This is the 3rd time I've been hit in this same vehicle. I don't know if it was the color or what? I had a 5sp, 4cly and the get up and go was impressive. We took it on many long trips and was always amazed at how comfortable it was. I would purchase another if I wasn't so weirded out about the accident. I'd definitely recommend to someone looking to buy. Similar Products Used: 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport |

Quiet ride, independent suspension dampens out uneven surfaces.
Weakness:
Could use a little more power considering the 2.7 L displacement. Excellent and reliable SUV. Have taken it into the desert several times. Nothing can touch this SUV considering the price paid! |

Santa Fe GL
Strength:
Style, warranty and a great local dealership.
Weakness:
Rear inside visibility. The rear seat headrests block too much of the view. I own a 1998 Elantra, 2000 Tiberon, and now a Santa Fe. In eight years total Hyundai ownership I've had one temperature sensor changed in the Santa Fe and a "Check Engine" light reset in the Tiberon when my wife forgot to tighten the gas filler cap. With each purchase I've seen the quality improved and "Extras" become standard equipment at no extra cost. When my Plymouth van broke down I had to take the Santa Fe on a two week excavation trip to the Badlands of Nebraska. My 2WD got me through mud and gullies that my friends Avalanche had trouble with. If my wife knew, she'd kill me! I read the comments posted here before purchasing my Santa Fe and remembered the comments about the wheel well covers taking a beating from gravel roads. I put a heavy coat of ruderized undercoating in the wheel wells before my trip because I would be driving several hundred miles on the gravel backroads of Nebraska. It really helped. The few spots I missed showed a lot of gouging in the soft plastic. Thanks for all the positive and negative comments you've posted here. They really help buyers get a "Hands on" look at what's really happening out there in the real world. |

Santa Fe LX 4WD 2.7L
Strength:
Value, drivability, resale, cargo space, comfort, style
Weakness:
The 2.7L is a bit weak for this vehicle, but 20 more horses are available with the 3.5L at the expense of less gas mileage, plastic on inside rear doors is cheap, but much better than the Saturn's! I just bought my wife a pine green Santa Fe LX after spending a month researching and test driving the following additional 2003 models: Kia Sorento EX, Ford Escape XLT, Saturn VUE V6, Suzuki XL-7, Jeep Liberty, Honda CRV, and Subaru Forester. The main reasons I chose the Santa Fe is value, safety, warranty and driveability. I was a bit worried my wife might not like the styling, as I was put-off by it at first. After a while, though, it grows on you. I went with the 2.7L V6 to obtain (hopefully) better gas mileage than the 3.5L, since this will be her daily driver. Needless to say, she is thrilled with the vehicle which comes standard with ABS, front and side airbags, traction control and 4 wheel disc brakes. She really appreciates that it doesn't feel like she's driving a big truck, the ability to open just the rear window and the fact she can actually reach in to put groceries in the rear (she's 5'6"). I, on the other hand, appreciate that it doesn't look like every other SUV, is very enjoyable to drive, can haul a lot (I tested putting two coolers, 3 large suitcases and a wheelchair in each of these test vehicles - the Santa Fe is bested only by the XL-7) and is chock full of nice features - standard!. Hyundai Santa Fe
Strength:
Well bodied, well structured, I can handle anything that any other SUV can. It's a car with truck tires. Ample pwr./ easy adjustable split back seat/ 6yr bmpr-bmpr warranty.
Weakness:
needs a stronger a/c. /needs to be fitted for extra accessories such as TV's and coolers. broke a front strut while off roading (our fault) We bought the 1st issued Santa Fe feat.the 2.7 V-6 which is fine however now, there's a bigger more powerful 3.5 V-6. Hyundai has come a long, long way since the days of the Excel. Watch the Korean car mkt. do what the Japanese did 30yrs. ago. Similar Products Used: 1991 VW Vanagon GL. Resale value, is great! leather seats and a seat warmer(cool)!! Tinted windows, great handling, takes curves and hills no straining (you should hear my S10 on a hill)space- it's rommier than my coz's new Lexus SUV (to me it is) styling etc.... Overall a Great ride, but got my CU financing at 4.75%
Weakness:
Wish it had onstar or at leat a outside temp. gauge. Could use rear A/C and heating, but that's just extra fluff This SUV was a repo. I had the highest bid. I am TOTALLY impressed with this ride. It has all the features and most of the bells of a more pricey ride. I even got what's left of the warranty. I like this impressive "big boy's toy". Similar Products Used: Explorer, Vibe |

None so far. I am a student in upstate New York, and the truck performed well during the heavy winter. It's comfortable and well suited for both city and long distance highway drives. A very smooth ride and can climb a variety of terrain, although it is a 2WD. Similar Products Used: 1998 Benz ML 320 |
