Front seat comfort. Gas tank sound in cabin

WE live in upstae NY and purchased this vehicle for everyday running around. Had a 2000 Ford Expedition (avg about 12 mpg) and My wife and I had good luck with that vehicle. We (I) decided to downsize(wife's not to happy) and the Pilot had a bit more room, a high quality finish and more features than most other vehicles in its price point. On paper we paid 34400 but had a trade that was over inflated so I figure we paid about 32500 that included Side steps, Rear Mud Flaps, Front Fog Lights, and Auto Dimming Mirror. Very happy with dealership. Front seats seem short, I hope we just need to get used to them. DVD system works well, kids of course love it. Last check on MPG was 16.9 a lot of city driving and waiting in parking lots while wife shops:). Only thing to bother me so far is when the vehicle is at half tank you can start to hear the gas splashing around. First time I heard it I pulled over to check the vehicle it sounded as if something was hit underneath the rear of the vehicle.

good handling, power, space and practical.

Weakness:

They should offer auto open and close to the trailgate.

So far so good. We love our SUV/CAR Honda for space, handling, safety and bought it after about year of research. The only think we were very unhappy about was the dealer and quality of their work. After installing Trailer Hitch they forgot the add the extra cooler fluid to the power steering... So next time we will pay more and go somewhere else. We almost went to get a Toyota instead because of the Honda dealer.

Strength:

Good looks, smooth ride, decent power from the V6, 3rd row seat and overall good safety. Will be a great SUV if they fix all of the issues soon and if you buy it from a better dealership than we did!

Weakness:

Rear spoiler came off and damaged paint then required new updated spoiler, tires on front wore out by 7,500 miles, front end alignment out of spec before 9,500 miles, and fuel economy dropped to 12mpg before 8,000 miles for some yet to be determined reason.

This was a great handling and looking SUV, but due to the continuous problems that we ran into with it and the subpar service dept where we bought the vehicle, we traded it in on something else. The rear spoiler came apart and damaged the top of the SUV requiring a 2-week body shop repair, the Bridgestone tires on the front wore out at 7,500 miles, the fuel economy dropped down to 12mpg before 8,000 miles with no changes to fuel type or air filter, and the front alignment was out of spec by 9,500 miles. Also continued to hear an obnoxious popping sound although we never found out exactly where it was coming from. The body repair took two weeks when they promised me 4 days, they wouldn't do anything about the two "new" bald tires and the service manager even tried to tell me that it was "normal wear"! Funny thing is Discount Tire and Firestone/Bridgestone said it definitely wasn't normal wear and they were more helpful even though I didn't even buy anything from them. As for the gas mileage problem-- they put it on their diagnostic machine which said nothing was wrong(of course), so after an earfull from me they told me to collect 5 gas receipts and to come back. Wrong thing to do, because the SUV is gone and we definitely won't be going back to Honda Cars of McKinney in Texas any more! Evidently other people are doing the same because I see a lot of Pilots in the used car lots everywhere. Nothing against Honda itself, but the Honda Pilot and Honda Cars of McKinney's service dept got problems. Back into a Dodge now with a Ram 1500 Quad Cab(with a cheaper payment too). Gotta love that Hemi!

Acceleration, interior fit and finish, outside looks, 8 seats

Snug third row seat

The Pilot is the a fine choice in the SUV criteria which many people are going for instead of the minivans. It is cozy, yet large, and very well-rounded. I love my Pilot!

powerful yet relatively fuel efficient engine. too many to count. all the little features of this vehicle leaves others in the dust

Weakness:

on the 2003 the second row isn't adustable but the 04's now have it to give more let room for the 3rd row. good job Honda. wish you did it sooner

The Best Honda we have owned to date. It's so stable on the highway and just cruises. It should be high on anyone's buying list. I really can't see myself in any other SUV than the MDX but the Pilot does look more rugged.

My previouse car was a 97 CRV, perfect little SUV with no problems at all, infact the CRV is a great car too. I do have a 03 infinit I35 in my garage. only drive it to visit customers for work but the Pilot is much more stable and gives a way better view of the road. hard to believe but i prefer the Honda over the Infinit. someone about the infiniti that doesn't make it feel very safe. the Pilot did get 5 stars all around so maybe that's it.

Build quality. Versatality, with the third row seat ( for grandkids )! Great ride. Great bang for the buck! Overall fuel mileage.

Weakness:

Doesn't have a roll down window on the tailgate.

After intensive suv comparisons for over a year, we decided on the Pilot. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the very negative reviews here by a few "owners?" ...but the positives more than outweighed the few negatives. I agree with other owners, the Pilot is one of the finest overall vehicles we have purchased yet. We didn't want to be driving a "land tank", but yet wanted something that has a good ride, with room for grandkids and all....this rig fills the bill. Mileage is good also, I'm averaging around 19 in mostly town driving. Like others have said, the overall fit and finish is wonderful. I did add a cd changer that gave us a 12 disc capacity to the standard single cd player. We love the seat height ( higher is better for us middle aged ) that was much better than the Highlander or Nissan offerings. Build quality ruled out the domestics. After talking to owners we'd see in the parking lots, etc., we decided on the Pilot....nuff said.

Strength:

The great ride and handling, fit and finish. Plenty of horses under the hood.

Weakness:

Lack of availability, limited color choices. I have found nothing major to complain about with my Pilot. The only things i would do would be to add a power passenger seat, and have the rear hatch window be able to open by itself and have the rear side windows be able to open for more ventilation.

Wow what a vehicle. After driving a Mercury Villager mini-van for the past ten yrs., the Pilot is the best vehicle I have ever driven. After researching the available mid-size SUV's out there, i narrowed my choices down to the Honda Pilot, Toyota 4Runner, and Saturn VUE. The Pilot was head and shoulders above the VUE and after adding comparable options to the 4Runner, the Pilot won the battle over my wallet. The only problem i had was finding one on a dealers lot, fortunately i was able to drive my salesmans Pilot. I just love the way this vehicle rides and handles, you'd think you were in a luxury car. The roomy interior with plenty of storage compartments is great for a family of four. With two young boys the abundance of cup holders is a plus too. The comfortable cockpit has plenty of head and leg room and you have a great view out the windshield. All controls are laid out nicely and within hands reach. The 240 HP engine has plenty of get up and go for my driving habits. I don't plan on doing any off roading so my Pilot will suit me just fine. The upgraded stereo in the EX is great. The climate control system works well also. I'm looking forward to using the VTM 4 wheel drive this winter. The fit and finish of my Pilot is impeccable, with the record of Hondas reliability, i would expect nothing less. If you're tired of the same old mini-van like i was or looking for a family vehicle, you'll fall in love with the Honda Pilot. It has made driving fun again. Don't let the lack of availability turn you away from the Pilot. Keep looking and take a test drive, you're gonna love it. The only options i added were to have a dealer installed bug shield and a set of mud flaps. I had to order my Pilot with a delivery time of 8 weeks but fortunatley one came in that a client no longer wanted so i was able to have mine in three weeks.

Very solid vehicle, very quiet ride, great climate control, good MPG, real good acceleration. Many good safety features . Over-all first class vehicle.

Weakness:

Shift lever hard to find at first, but now not a problem. 25 gal. gas tank for greater cruising distance would be nice. Lack of pry bar to pry my wife out of it so I could drive it is also a problem.

Could not be more pleased with my 04 Pilot. Best ride of any vehicle I have ever owned. Nothing comes close to the Pilot for over-all quality (except maybe my 99 CR-V) Both are fine vehicles. My wife loves to drive her Pilot, it is great for long trips. Last tank of gas got 21 MPG (2/3's highway, 1/3 stop & go). Great legroom, real good climate control front and rear. Stereo very nice sound. 5th Honda purchase, all winners!!! Drove 5 or 6 other SUV's before purchase, only one close to the pilot was the Toyota Sequoia for about 10K more, no brainer bought the pilot.

READERS WATCH OUT!!!! The only person here trying to skew the overall rating of the Honda SUVs is our friend Homer/Seth. Why else would he write the same comical review 20+ times. There is no way he can tell the reviewers IP addresses. He accused me of being a Honda employee from CA when in fact I live in MA and work for an architectural/engineering company. Email me and I can prove it. He also says that the positive reviews only occur during the week when in fact many of them are written over the weekend. Honda didn't get where they are today by writing a few reviews on one site. Besides, do you really think people are following the reviews on this site blindly? No of course not. Today’s car buyer is informed and takes a thorough test drive before plunking down their hard earned cash. How do you explain all the positive reviews and best in class ratings from the professional publications? You will not find one negative professional review anywhere. Even the one you point out from Edmunds where the dealer failed to fix a defective part they still had an overall positive experience. How do you explain its highest in class resale value? How do you explain the fact that they are selling all they can make without the huge discounts and incentives of the other manufacturers? And how do you explain the hundreds of thousands of happy new owners every year? Obviously Homer/Seth is desperate to tarnish Honda's impeccable reputation. Sorry Homer its your opinion against all the professional opinions and millions of happy owners.
