Strength:

Smooth ride, excellent pick-up, unconsciously drives like a luxury car but you feel the power and strength, takes big and little bumps better than any other SUV I've driven except the Pathfinder and QX4

Weakness:

None to speak of YET!!!! Hope it stays that way.

I've had the car only a few weeks now and I hope I don't experience all the madness some of these people have wriiten about their Passports. So far, so good. It seems like most of the negative reviews though were on pre-2000 Passports/Rodeos. I've driven many SUV's and currently own a 1998 Pathfinder. I traded in a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS less than a month after purchasing it (Peice of ****) for my Passport. Absolutely NO comparison. Like one reader said in an earlier review, the only other smoother riding SUV in this class is the QX4/Pathfinder. With only 32,000 miles on my 2001 Passport, I'm hoping all of the nuisance problems that seem to be common to most pre-2000 Passports (based on these owner reviews) have been worked out and fixed. If not, I guarantee you the only SUV I will ever buy again will be a Pathfinder or QX4.

Strength:

Creature comforts. The interior is comfortable and there is ample space for storage in the back. When it is working well, it is a fun vehicle to drive and handles mud, ice, and snow very well.

Weakness:

Electrical components. Customer service available for these vehicles. Question of transmission reliability.

The Honda Passport appears to be the red-headed stepchild of Honda. I too have had a mixed reception from Honda dealerships from Montana, Idaho, and Oregon. The standard response seems to run along the lines of "Gee, we don't work on these things much" translate "we know little to nothing". I absolutely adore my Honda Passport, however mysterious problems have cropped up through four years I've owned it. I too have been plagued with the "Check Engine" light and was told that it was a rough road sensor going out or that it was a computer "hiccup". Needlesstosay a solution was never offered and the computer simply reset. My Honda now has 78,000 miles on it and recently I have had problems with my "Check Trans" light coming on. The first time I was told it was a computer "hiccup" and the second time I was told (rather unconvincingly) that I needed a completely new transmission. The dealership's attitude was down right rude and condescending. I requested they give me what remained of my transmission fluid and filter. When I took it to another mechanic who said that what he found was not outside the normal range for a vehicle with that type of mileage. At this point I am unsure what to do with my vehicle. Chances of buying another car from Honda are slim based on their lack of customer service and their inability or unwillingness to stand behind their vehicle. I wish I would have bought a Jeep.

Strength:

Great value for the dollar. Nothing but great things about the interior, the roominess and load capacity.

Weakness:

Fuel economy is suspect. Previous owner did not take full care of vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2000 4WD LX Passport and thought I had recieved a good deal. I noticed that after 36,000 miles the check engine light came on along with the Fuel guage indicator. I recently performed a Fuel Filter/Fuel Injection cleaning and to my shock the same thing is happening after the service. I have been overly satisfied with my purchase and would purchase another Passport (now Pilot) but not at the high price tag. My experience has been good with the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicle and have recommended the Passport to friends.

Strength:

Nice looking and lots of room

Weakness:

Many mechanical problems. If scheduled service is not done at a Honda dealer, they will not,(did not), honor warranty.

Honda Passport self destructs at 60k miles. We have had numerous problems with this SUV since we bought it new. Engine lights, Brake lights, etc. The last straw is that it now goes through oil almost as fast as one can pour it into the crankcase. And oh, yes... the transmission has just gone out. To make matters worse, the dealer will not honor the warranty, because all maintenance was not done at a Honda dealer!!Also, the service rep at the dealership called the Passports a "Piece of junk w/ nothing but problems." We now drive Mazda.

Strength:

Both Rodeos Ive owned are great. Powerful--goes without saying Fun to drive Goes anywhere off road Easy to work on Cheap to maintain Looks like a million bucks when dirty and even better clean

Rodeo and Passport are almost identical fyi Hello People: I see many fellow owners have had great experiences with the Rodeo and the Passport. I'm one more satisfied and loyal customer. Got a black 1997 V6 4x4 Rodeo with 68,000 miles on it for my 16th birthday two years ago. Since then, I've driven it to canada during summer vacations, and the LA mountains for winter vacations, and every trip I took was in my Rodeo along with my 80 mile commute to school every day. I ended up putting just over 82,000 miles on it and in December, it had just over 150,000 miles on it! The Rodeo performed great despite some of the hard driving I put it through. Very easy to work on when it needed oil changes, new spark plugs, and so on. Very cheap to keep running and had a very good style to it. After 150,000 miles it the odometer, I figured it was bound to start having some expensive problems so I sold it to the dealer for $1,200 and got a 2003 black Rodeo 2wd with leather package, sport package and a few extras. 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty which I dont think I'll ever be needing :-) Fully loaded Rodeo for just over 22 grand! Isuzu gives great service and has kept me thoroughly happy. They have a customer for as long as they are selling SUVs. I now have 7,200 miles on my new one and it is such an outrageous vehicle. It really needs to be on more peoples' shopping lists. Very strong vehicle. I also wanted to add that I havent had any oil problems with either vehicle and I think the cause of some of these oil problems that people are having is because they arent changing their oil often and letting their engine wear away at itself. I belong to many Isuzu groups, where there are many Passport owners too, and I havent encountered anyone who has ever had an oil problem which tells me the people who have problems with this vehicle are neglecting it. Big no no. My mom has a Dodge Durango now and it is the biggest piece of sh!t. Fair warning to everyone. Stay away from the whole Chrysler corp. Enjoy The Vehicle!

Strength:

The 95 has 190 horsepower and seems plenty powerful on and off the road. The 2000 has 205 horsepower and feels like a V8 when accelerating

Weakness:

Havent had any with the 2000. Wish it had more wood trim. The 95 has been unbelievable and has taken a beating but keeps going and going.

I own a 1995 4 wheel drive EX which is at my house in the mountains. I use the 95 up there when I go because it is indestructable, is old, and has 132,000 miles on it. Besides rattles and a sticking door, the truck is so reliable. There have been no other problems with it. Since the Passport was being cancelled in 2003, I got wind of this in February 2001 and found a 2000 ex-l that was made in december on 2000. This is a two wheel drive model which I use for my city driving and traveling purposes. Feels very plush and drives nicely. Im in love with the gold/black two tone paint. The newer Passports are more modern and are simply spectacular. I will be buying an Isuzu Rodeo for my next vehile because both of mine have proved to be untouchable. I have spent nothing on the 2000 besides for oil changes and air filters (duh every vehicle needs that replaced) My 2000 has 31,000 miles on it. I would not have boughten two of these vehicles if they weren't true value beaters with everything I wanted. The 95 I found used from a little old lady who wanted something smaller.

Strength:

Never had any sort of problems of any type with this vehicle. Switched shocks to Bilstein, rides fine. Acceleration, Handling, and Reliability are terrific

Weakness:

brakes wear out sort of quickly (last about 35,000 miles) but they DO stop the truck nicely

I've been really happy with my Passport. I knew I was buying a rebadged Rodeo, who wouldn't? The doors, engine etc say Isuzu. It rides great, looks good and has been very reliable. For the quality ive gotten, i wouldn't have minded paying 35 thousand for this SUV. I bought the EX 2wd. it's the fastest SUV I tested. This truck has been perfect and i would take it still, over just about any other 2002 or newer SUV on the market. I know alot of peolpe in my area have Passports and Rodeos and evreybody loves them. I recommend the Passport to anyone looking for a real Sport Utility with a lot of Sport. I owned a 98 Explorer V8 for 2 months (thats right 2 months) before I got sick of it and bought this. While a little shorter in the cargo area, it is better than the Explorer in countless ways, including more stable and comfortable ride, and the door handles and luggage rack do not rattle while driving. I think a lot of these people bought a Honda wanting a rugged looking car and instead bought a tame looking truck. If you want something that rides like a car, drives like a car, and want gas mileage like a car, buy a car

nice looks, nice paint job, spacious for its class

Weakness:

engine(valves are rattling coming up hills), radio/cd player(speakers crack & cd player won't let loose of cds), turn ratio(worse than most trucks), sluggish handling(worse than any truck,), still owe a lot on it

I was compelled to write this since there seems to be a lot of love for this SUV. More than likely you've not had it long enough because it appears a large percentage of them are oil-burners that are uncapable of going the long haul. This SUV at 97,000 miles uses a quart of oil every 500-600 miles now and we are about to trade it in. We don't want to sell it straight out to anyone. We have read other reviews that verify our fears that it will burn up on a long trip. This vehicle can't be a HONDA.

Drives great. Very tight. Lots of passenger room.

Weakness:

Typical Honda horn. Drivers door gets a little noise with a cross-wind.

I can't tell you enough how much we have enjoyed this vehicle. We have had it 18 months and haven't sunk a penny into it, except for the usual maintenance, and new tires last fall. It drives great, looks great and gets pretty good gas mileage. We bought it with 60k miles on it and have put 25k on it. The starter began acting up yesterday, and I will enjoy spending the money to replace it.
