Strength:
Easy to drive. Good looking. Good acceleration. Smooth ride.
Weakness:
Gas gage does not work properly. Pinion seal leaks. Engine uses oil. Rear brakes wears rapidly. Driveshaft clunks. Rear speakers vibrates. Right front tire wears. Overall tire wear poor. Gas mileage is bad. I bought my honda from the dealer. SUV had about 4500 miles. I am the first owner according to them. I have had several problems with the vehicle and still have some. There was a clunk in the rear end. The dealer checked it but did not find the problem. I took in again just when the 36,000 mile warranty expired. They did extensive troubleshooting. Isuzu, the manufacturer was contacted. The dealer repacked the driveshaft by direction of the manufacturer. It solved the problem for about a month. The rear brakes pads wears out extremely fast. The engine uses oil excessively. The fast idle do not cut out sometimes. The vehicles idles very high for prolonged period. The rear speakers vibrates. The rear axle pinion seal leaks and have been doing so for awhile. The low fuel light comes on constantly. I can have a full tank of gas and the gage will go to empty and the light comes on. The low fuel light stays on most of the time. I first noticed this at 40,000 miles. The gas mileage is lousy. The 4 wheel drive is hard to operate. Once you get into 4 wheel drive it is hard to get out. It probably is a poor system. I only use it to make sure I do have a four wheel capability. It is very hard to check the transmission fluid. It is an impossible system. The right front tire wears out not matter how many times it is aligned. Tire wear all around is poor. I get about half of the mileage I should get out of a set of tires. If all these problems were fixed this would be a great vehicle. Vehicle does not upshift fast enough. Similar Products Used: Chevrolet Blazer |

Great gas mileage, looks fantastic. I love the 4WD,
Weakness:
I've only had the check engine light come on once, when the cord on the gas cap was caught in the threads, as soon as I unscrewed it, it went off. I have had an amazing experience with my Passport. It gets great gas mileage and it looks great too. I'm gonna give it to my fiancee to replace her car. I've never had any problems, I just keep it spotless and keep the oil changed at 3000. 4WD works good |

Enough Said Since car was new, the Check Engine Light is a Regular Feature. Now after 109K miles, a dealer finally says the intake gaskets need replacing. Other problems: 4WD is intermittent Fuel gauge no longer workd $700. to repair Various dash light sno longer work Rear Door is bad design. My First Japanese car after 26 years driving, and worse than my 72 Plymouth. Worst part, this car is very well taken care of, oil, wash, tune-ups. |

Nice car - reliable thru 35K miles.
Weakness:
4WD is a piece of shiot! Plain and simple the car is nice for price, but my problem is the 4WD slips out of gear constantly. It is very dangerous. Of course the dealer won't cooperate because I can't reproduce the problem when at the dealer. Similar Products Used: 2000 Dodge Durango |

Don't buy this SUV. I have had nothing but trouble with this car. It has only 22,000 miles and I have had to replace the front brakes three times. I needed new rotors and had a transmission leak. I have had to have my ABS sensor light fixed two times. And new tires already. |

Strong engine, good looks.

Bad on gas. Since I got the suv it has been good for me and my wife. We have not had any problems from it since we bought it. The only thing I would say bad about the suv is that the engine is loud at times. I dont know what it could be. I took it back to the dealer and they told me that this is how this type of engine sound. I always thoutght that honda engines are quit. I guess the Passport does not count towards that. I just hope we have not major problems from this Passport. |

Looks good, but dont' be fooled.
Weakness:
Everything. Don't ever think of buying this car. Nothing but trouble and mechanical problems. Mine threw a rod through the oil pan at 37,000 miles. A used engine was installed for $4,000. Since then have lost intake gasket twice, alternator twice and numerous other problems. |

Honda Passport LX-4WD
Strength:
Very attractive vehicle with plenty of space. Don't get sold on the looks...focus on the performance.
Weakness:
cheaply built. poor materials. I think to many corners were cut during the design phase. Do not purchase this vehicle. We bought this SUV less than a year ago and have had nothing but trouble. The problems appear to be small, but result in huge costs. Neither Honda or Isuzu can accurately diagnose situations. And, unfortunately, import car specialists do not have access to codes and equipment required to make the appropriate fix. Similar Products Used: Toyota 4Runner |

Ride Gas mileage (sometimes The Honda was the best SUV for me! I bought it with 42,000 miles on it and i put another 50,000 miles on it before my brother totaled it. I never had a single problem with the car, nothing ever went wrong. The 4-wheel drive out performed all of my friends with their Explorers and Jeeps. The Passport's ride isnt like that of a BMW but it is fair. The gas mileage was about 18 Mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the HWY. It had decent power, and could take the pathfinder off the line and off road. Honda doesnt make the body, but who cares, they make the engine, and we all know hondas can go forever. auto sucks,Honda should have to help us all out of these.I tried to trade and they didn't even want to without adding 2000.back to new one so I would still be paying for Passport. It never ends! To all who bought a Honda passport I fill sorry for you and me!Buying extra warrenty only helps if you get great one,I did not.If coolant seems to leak at all better watch ,mine hade a cracked cylinder after a month. All repairs I had to do cost me out of pocket 5000.Tempature went up,not over heat but I told Auto shop it was using coolant and oil not thermosat so warrenty would not pay.If any one can tell me how to keep check engine light off I would love to know! The jerk when you pull out and stop is something that needs to be oiled under auto,it is written in maintance paper at Honda dealership(I had it done,it helps). One thing I have found that helps some is change gas cap and oil cap they wear out and cause problems like oil on cylinder head. Some times new gas cap keeps check engine light off for awhile.Another important thing I found out is if you do not see oil or coolant leak under auto make sure you look in pan under auto.Mine leaked frome bad thermostat gasket and oil leak from cracked cylinder and we never saw anything under auto,(in pan)so if yours needs these fluids it is going sonewhere! Passport uses about 1-or11/2 quarts between oil changes. |
