Honda Accord
Strength:
Has lots of power and is a very smooth ride. The gas mileage is unbeatable. Roomy interior and trunk.
Weakness:
It guzzles oil, I put three quarts of oil in the car every couple months. This car is amazing! My Accord has 220,000 miles on it and runs beautifully! The body is in terrific shape. This has been the most reliable car that anyone in my family has purchassed. My dad and my sister both have the same make and model that I do and we all have had wonderful luck with these cars. Upkeep has been minimal in the eight years that I have owned it. I would recommend this car to ANYONE thinking about purchassing one. Similar Products Used: Civic |

Honda Passport (Rodeo)
Strength:
Good looking. Rides well for a small truck made in 1996 in that price-range. Works very well in 4WD. A lot of room in the rear seats and when seats are folded down.
Weakness:
Lousy leg room in the driver's seat for a fairly tall person. Rides like a small truck made in 1996 in that price-range. I own a 1996 Honda Passport which is an Isuzu Rodeo in disguise (both made by Isuzu). I have had it for four years and bought it when it had 65,000 miles on it. It now has almost 110,000 miles and like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps on going (knock on wood). Like a lot of things, all Passports/Rodeos weren’t created equal. There seems to be a lot of bad written by people here about the Rodeo with some good as well. One thing to keep in mind is that most of the folks here are only writing in this forum because something has gone wrong with their car and they want to vent their complaints. Those who are pleased with their car probably see no reason to be here. So I suspect, in reality, that the Passport/Rodeo is probably not as bad of an SUV as many in this forum make it to be. A year ago I was thinking of selling my Passport because I had read in this forum and others just how bad it was. So to get the real story I called several different Honda and Isuzu maintenance centers to get the skinny on the Passport’s overall reliability. I didn’t speak to any sales people, just the guys who work on Passports and Rodeos – people who had nothing to loose or gain by giving me misinformation. The results were very favorable, to the point I decided to keep the car. I only hope that saying all of this doesn’t now jinx me and the car now starts heading south on me. Something to think about – FYI. Similar Products Used: 1991 Ford Explorer |

Great vehicle and super power

unstable gas gauge I have a question more than a review. Has anyone had problems with their gas gauge? From the time I bought mine I noticed that whenever my gas light starts flashing my check engine light comes on. I fill it up and the check engine light disappears. Just curious if anyone has had that problem. But here recently my gas gauge has been acting really crappy. The first time it acted up I had a half a tank of gas in my vehicle. I went into work and when I was leaving my gas needle jumped from half a tank to empty and my light started flashing. As I begin to drive the needle went back to half a tank. But now its like the needle seems to be jumping and doesnt give a accurate reading. It will go from 3/4 of a tank to half a tank and then jump back to 3/4 of a tank. If anyone has had any problems with something like this or similar please email me and let me know how to fix it and about how much do you think a repair shop will charge to fix it. Bladebeme@aol.com Thanks other then that the vehicle has never given me any problems at all. Similar Products Used: 4-runner |

Honda Passport EX
Strength:
Beautiful styling and colors (green with gold), good pickup, good visibility.
Weakness:
It's an Isuzu. My husband and I purchased this vehicle after having it thoroughly inspected twice. When the check engine light came on, we had it inspected again, complete with an engine diagnostic. Three weeks later, the engine seized up. We have been fans of Hondas for years (since I was in high school and got a fantastic seven-year-old Accord used), but we were disappointed with purchasing an Isuzu in Honda badging, something we discovered a couple of weeks after buying it. It seems like a dirty trick on Honda's part since we simply trusted the name and didn't research its heritage. After we get this one fixed (and sell it ASAP!!!), we will buy another Honda Accord. We trust the brand itself, but we certainly would have passed on this Honda wannabe. The two star rating says it all--"look for something better." OK ON GAS MILEAGE, RUNS REASONABLE, OVERALL PRETTY GOOD TRANSPORTATION, AND VERY ROOMY.
Weakness:
GAS GAUGE ALWAYS BLINKS LIKE THERES NO GAS IN CAR, AND WHEN SOMETHING GOES OUT IT GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING. MY 1999 HONDA PASSPORT HAS BEEN A GOOD CAR. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS BUT NOT MAJOR. ONE OF MY TRANSMISSION SENSORS HAD WENT OUT MAKING MY CAR CHANGE INTO NUETRAL OR THE LOWER GEAR BY ITSELF AND GET THIS THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT NEVER CAME ON TO INDICATE ANY PROBLEM SO I HAD IF FIXED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHAT A MESS BECAUSE THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER, THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY HELPED ME FIND THE PART). HAD TO PUT A NEW BATTERY (IT WENT OUT JUST LIKE SNAPPING MY FINGERS), MY BRAKES ARE CONSTANTLY NEEDING CHANGED ABOUT EVERY 8 MONTHS (AND I DONT DRIVE THE CAR THAT MUCH), AND YESTERDAY MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON (SOMEONE TAMPERED WITH MY GAS CAP AND STOLE THE GAS OUT OF MY CAR AND DIDNT PUT THE CAP BACK ON GOOD) SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER HE CHECKED IT AND TOLD ME THE CAR WOULD RESET ITSELF WITHIN 300 DRIVING MILES.AFTER DRIVING 17 MILES IT WENT OFF THIS MORNING. OTHER THAN THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN VERY RELIABLE. JUST KEEP UP OIL CHANGES AND MAINTANENCE ON CAR AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE OK. Similar Products Used: HONDA ACCORD |

Looks Reliability
Weakness:
Not a real comfortable ride The damned check engine light I purchased this vehicle in 98 with 6000 miles on it. I bought the Honda Care warranty. I now have 104,000 on it and have had little problem. Recently, the check engine light came on. After spending $1100 for tune-up, gas filter, and new EGR unit, I still have the damn light. It has started to use some oil, but I was told the EGR unit would help with that. I'll see. The vehicle still looks great and gas mileage is acceptable. I will try the gas cap trick, but other than that... anyone have suggestions on why the light keeps coming on? The mechanic said the code was for the EGR and fuel starvation. |

LX 4WD
Strength:
Pretty, 4WD has worked great for me. Perfect size and height.
Weakness:
Oil and fuel comsumption is ridiculous, won't start or stay started, fuel gauge, ABS brakes, check engine light, suspension clunking. Doesn't have the pickup I'm used to with Hondas - can be sluggish on acceleration. I have owned and driven Hondas since I learned how to drive, and always will. This Passport is an exception - it does NOT live up to Honda's reputation. It still has less than 70,000 miles on it, and I have constant problems. The ABS brakes went out just after I bought it (haven't done recall yet, I'm sure they'll charge me a ton to repair). The suspension started clunking and creaking about 6 months ago on driver's side, now has spread to whole vehicle - frightening to my 9 year old who wants to know if the wheels are going to fall off. The fuel gauge stopped working after I bought it - always was incorrect, but now just registers empty so we have to watch the mileage (which is TERRIBLE by the way). The check engine light kept going on, and is now permanent. Took it to a shop I know and trust, and they said the codes mean the 02 sensors are out, plus the rotor sensor. Have to replace oil constantly - but can't figure for anything where it's going because no leaks are visible to me or the shop. Has constant starting issues - it will always start, but constantly dies right away. Have to start again once or twice for it to stay on. I have to agree, it looks great - but it's not worth the headaches. I've also taken it to the mountains more times that I can count and it's been great - no problems with the 4WD, very reliable. Doesn't have the pickup my old 86 Accord had though. It's a nice vehicle if you only want to use it once in a while - not for a regular family/commuter vehicle. And don't expect the Honda quality you're used to - this was built by Izusu, and it's very apparent. I wish (for the first time ever) I had gone with a Toyota, or waited until Honda had a larger SUV that I could actually afford...
