Good in bad weather. Good 4 wheel drive.

It is CRAP! Not dependable! It is falling apart! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE! The grocery list of issues is too long to list here. Problems with the check engine light, fuel pump, and transmission are the ones that are constantly reoccuring. The car spent over 3 weeks in the Honda Service Department in January of this year when it needed an ENTIRELY new transmission. It has been back at Honda 4 times in the last 6 weeks...in fact...it is there as I am sitting here writing this review. This car is a P.O.S. It is an Isuzu Rodeo with Honda logos all over it. I have gone back and forth with Honda about how horrible this vehicle is and they will not take responsibility. PLEASE...for your own sanity and bank account...DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! I keep up on maintenance with all of my vehicles...this one is a lost cause! No matter what you do, it will fall apart. |

Gas hog, but aren't most SUV's? Many people have posted on this site about the clunking noise that they hear under their car. We have recentlt started experiencing this problem. To me it sounds like it is toward the back. To my husband, it sounds like it is in the front, right under the driver seat or in the wheel well. If anyone knows what this could be, please write to me and let me know! P.S. We seem to hear the noise more often while we are going down a hill or coasting. |

Road noise. Poor quality. DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE! What a clunker! I purchased this vehicle new and have had nothing but problems. I wish I had known about this site before I bought the thing. First thing was the mysterious clunking noise. The dealership kept the car several days and claimed they fixed the problem. AFter about a week the noise was back! Then the gas gauge problem started. It just goes crazy..with a full tank of gas the gauge will start falling to the "E", the little gas pump will start flashing and the 'Check Engine' light comes on!! Now it is in the shop because it started jumping when I first take off. I've been told this is probably the transmission. It doesn't even have 40,000 miles yet!! This vehicle is certainly big disappointment. Similar Products Used: None |

Hauls anything, strong engine, attractive body style.
Weakness:
Quirky little and big problems that are too common to be overlooked. The manufacturer should be ashamed to put the Honda tag on the vehicle. In March of 2002, I bought a 1999 Passport used from Carmax. It had been a lease car, and had all of the regularly scheduled maintenance done. It had about 33,000 miles on it when I bought it, and I have just rolled over 105,000. I do like it in general...lots of room to haul stuff (computer, phone, and a/v gear), a strong engine, and has never left me on the side of the road. In reading all of the other reviews concerning this model, I too have encountered the most common problems: egr valve replacement, intake gasket replacement, engine noise, the 'magic oil disappearing trick', the gas tank float assembly replacement, random check engine light notifications, the tires don't seem to stay balanced for very long which eventually turns into a jalopy-like ride, and finally, having the transmission rebuilt. The guys at the transmission place actually used the term "burnt up" as a description. Made me feel great about the car for sure! The replacement parts and the transmission rebuild was on the dime of Carmax since I got the warranty, otherwise it would be sitting undriveable in a garage somewhere. I had driven a friend's 4x4 Rodeo before I bought the Passport, and really liked the Rodeo, knew it was basically the same car, and at the time the Passport was a little cheaper...now I know why. So at this point, I need tires, brakes, and need to replace the headlights and the belts. I am definitely a little leary about keeping it for very much longer. I am hoping that I am out of the woods on any high dollar maintence issues for the next 2-3 years. Plus, it likes the good gas, and the prices are through the roof these days. Could I have done better? Yes. My only comfort so far is that I haven't had to pay for all of the maintence bills. But now that the warranty is up....... Similar Products Used: 1997/1998 Rodeo 4x4 |

ABS went out early on Check Engine light Where is the oil? What gas mileage? A nice looking SUV with great performance in the mountains. The honeymoon was over in May 2004 when the check engine light started to flash. Then the Passport started guzzling oil. Two times over the summer the oil light came on, and there was not a drop of oil when the level was checked. Currently consuming about one - three quarts a month. NO leaks, or blue exhaust. Honda technicians indicated also that the upshift light comes on way to early. If you are in 4th gear at 35 mph, the upshift indicator flashes. 5th gear in the city at 35 mph??? As of November 2004 the car has been in the shop 12 times. Numerous things replaced: O2 sensors, engine wiring harness, more things I can't remember. At 10 times, we said enough is enough - we don't want the hassle anymore. At 1800 RPM, the car will pull back slightly, and continue accelerating until 2000 RPM the light will make it's appearance. Sometimes it will stay on solid for a few days, then go off for a couple of days, then flash for a couple days, and stay off for a few days. In early November the Honda Engineer made a special trip to look at the Passport, and cleaned up the engine really nice and thought the problem may have been fixed. We got the car back Friday November 12th, and guess what?? The check engine light turned back on Thursday November 18th. The mileage in May was 28000, and is now 35000. We are patiently waiting a verdict from Honda corp as how they intend to get us out of this lemon. I don't have very positive feelings about a positive resolution. At last word, the thought was to replace the engine, so we could trade it in for a real Honda. What a huge financial loss!!!! In my humble opinion, the decision should be mine, and I don't want the Passport anymore. I would take a CRV or Subaru Outback in a heartbeat. Of course, Honda Corp would have to offer me a very sweet deal - I have been a Honda fanatic for years, and I don't think they want to lose me as a future customer. They need to write this one off as a loss on their rolls, and stand behind their product to make the situation right. I was planning on driving this car for many years to come. In other words, a new car wasn't in my future - and this one isn't even paid off yet!I simply don't feel safe driving my family in this car with what could be a very serious engine problem. Has anybody had any luck dealing on a lemon? How about state or lawyer based arbitration? We are looking into our options...... Similar Products Used: Subaru Outback, Subaru Impreza |

gas gauge I own a '99 Passport and have had a problem with my gas gauge not working for quite some time now. I contacted my local Honda dealership and asked if there was a recall for this and of course there isn't. I told them there should be after reading some of these reviews from ya'll. I also have had to replace the EGR valve, but besides the aggravation of the gas gauge. I have 105,000 miles on it now and have had to replace the back brakes twice, never the front ones yet. Overall, I feel overall, it's been a great vehicle. Covington, GA Similar Products Used: Honda Accord |
