Great ride, Lots of power, Roomy, good speakers, durable, reliable, good looks, A MONSTER

Weakness:

Absolutely amazing truck it has 180000km on it and sounds like the day we bought it, we've had almost no problems other that the passenger seat broke because it slides forward as it is a 2dr, and the break pads tend to go very quickly and screetch constantly. As well GAS!!!!!!! But that issue comes with the truck
body also dents easily it seems but it might be how i drive it not sure

First off im a student and my father gave me this truck as he loved it so much that he went out to buy another one and got a 1997 GT which is basically the same truck but drives a little smoother and has leather seats which are like sitting on a sofa. The gas is a big problem as it costs about $80 a week to fill up plus it really doesnt last that long. But with the gas comes a great truck and if u can except that then you'll love the truck. Suprisingly their have been very little problems with it and I believe their to be no other sport ute like. You also feel like your the king of the road in it and the GT has an extra 60hp which makes it even more pleasurable to drive;

Strength:

Great in winter, bulletproof engine, lots of torque, parts availability, drives like a car, roomy, easy to clean inside.

Weakness:

weight + big engine = poor gas mileage. Some fit and finish problems (dash area). Front brakes are weak and pads don't last very long. Poor quality oem tires and back window scratches when using the whiper.

I was fortunate enough to buy a GT on the last year they were made. I realize that people aren't buying as many 2 doors as the four doors (I think the ratio was 1 in 5 back then) but they should bring it back!

Overall I have to say that I am impressed with this vehicle. Maintenance has been minimal in the 3 years I've had it. The only problem was a crack in the dash (twice) and a busted u-joint. Maintenance costs are also very reasonable.

I could talk about gas mileage but anyone buying one of these already knows about the poor fuel economy of SUVs with big V8s.

Anyone looking for a reliable SUV should consider it.

The comfort. The roominess. The power and I like the heaviness of the truck. It makes me feel safe on the road. It's PERFECT for my two Rottweilers! They love the back. I can load anything into it. Imagine how many bags it can hold on a good shopping day:)

Weakness:

However, as much as I love my truck, I have been experiencing some very disappointing events. I bought it used with 17000 miles. Right away it needed an alignment. The dealer paid for it but the shop that did it didnt hit the punch outs and so it didn't do anything. Then I kept feeling a knock evertime I took off and that turned out to be the 'yolk'. Luckily, it was covered under warranty. About 3 or 4 months later, I'm driving down 95 (I used to live in Fla) and my exhaust system blew up and it sounded like I was driving a tank!! The dealer said he had never seen anything like this. They ended up replacing the whole system. Then I moved to PA and within the first month, the exhaust AND the differential started acting up again. The dealer here never commented on the differential, but they did fix the exhaust system (saying it was a defective part). By the way, I had to pay for my own rental car. Lately, when I turn the truck to the right, the whole thing "slides". I guess that's what everyone is calling "roll". Then 4th of July w-end driving from Florida to PA the exhaust blows up again in No. Carolina. Now the dealer is trying to tell me that it is caused by a vibration. They want me to put 4 new tires and replace the rear pinion. Since when did tires (which aren't even in bad condition) cause an exhaust system to blow up!! Oh yeah, AND now they are trying to say that if I don't fix what they are recommending, and it happens again, that I am reliable for the cost of repairs!!! Yeah right.

I paid $24,000 used. I love the truck. I really do. I just wish GM would make right what's wrong with my truck.

I would recommend it, but with caution.

I also bought an extended warranty from the dealer and it turned out to be an outside warranty company and not all the dealers are obligated to honor it. Be careful what you buy....

Strength:

There are several things that I could list for strengths. The whole yukon is great. It has alot of leg room, relaxing seats, good stereo system, great cargo space. Body style is up to date. The engine has great power. The best addition to the 2000 yukon is the auto 4wheel drive, which in alaska is a gas saver and not only that it saved my wife several times.

Weakness:

I really don't like the service I get from the dealer. The engine could use about 100 more horses for my taste.

I paid high 40,000's. I would recommend it any one who is looking for an SUV or who can afford it. My Yukon is a great family SUV and I would only trade it for a newer model. Thanks for your time.

Just about everything else. Our truck had too many problems to list. It was in the shop a week after we purchased it with transmission problems. We knew the service guy personally. Even though it was fast, it didn't seem to be as quick as it should have been. My mother-in-law had a 97 and it was much quicker than ours. The leather was beginning to crack after about 6 months. It had poor fit and finish. Gas mileage - 12 mpg (too be expected from such a large truck)

I am so glad we leased our vehicle! I bought it because we could get a better deal on a Yukon ($450 a month) than an Expedition (at that time) and it was safe. It may have just been a lemon but I'm not taking that chance again. If you are going to purchase a Yukon get the VIN and go to a GMC dealer and see if they will print a copy of the service records for that vehicle. I would not recommend this vehicle.

Strength:

I have really been pleased with the performance of my Yukon
for the past 4 1/2 years. The ride is a little soft and it catches quite a bit of side wind due to its height on windy days. I have had no major problems with it since I purchased it new in August of 1995. It is very roomy and I pull a bassboat with it several months out of the year. It also handled the mountains in Wyoming very well. I like the transmission shifting also when traveling in the mountains.

Weakness:

I also have had some brake problems. Had to have the diaphram on the firewall replaced this last year when it went out which was quite an expense. Replaced front and rear brake pads at 38,000 which is normal I suppose when towing a boat. Have to replace the universal joints on main drive shaft. Still have original exhaust system and have 54,000 miles on truck. I do not have air conditioning in the rear and it does take a while to cool down in hot weather. I don't thinmk it was offered when I purchased this off the lot.

Overall I have been very pleased with the 95 Yukon and am in the process of retiring next month and plan on traveling with it a lot this summer. My Yukon listed for $31,980 when I bought it in August of 95. I am considering buying another if I can ever get over the sticker price on the 2000 models.
I would highly recommend the reliability of this truck.

Strength:

I travel so I like the room. Second owner and no trouble yet. It drives and handles great gets 14 to 17 MPG not far off from the smaller SUV. The 4WD works very well. Very good ride and seats have good back support.

Weakness:

On the heavy side, makes stopping a little slow. The leather seat is tearing around around the power controls.

I would highly recomend it to people who like a large confortable ride and can afford the gas. I really enjoy mine and the only problem I've had was a recall on the wiper motor. My Yukon was $34,000 retail I bought it used for about $19,500. It has over 70,000 miles now. I would buy it again with no regrets.

Strength:

I enjoy the ride of this suv!! I drove many 4x4's in my time and this one drives itself. The heated seats are a plus in cold weather. I put a remote start on mine. I use that all the time. With a wife and two kids, there is plenty of room with the third seat. I traded in a '99 Dodge Grand Caravan that I had just bought. It was nice, but I didn't think that it would hold up or be as safe as the Yukon. I'm glad that I traded up to the Yukon. I got all the TOY'S on it except the sun roof. If you get that you loose the back climate control package. And lets not forget that blue button on the dash they call, ON STAR!!!! What a great feature. You get it for a year FREE. Then if you want to keep it after that it's around $29.00 I can keep going..........How about four airbags instead of two. I love the leather seats, heated mirrors, sound system I can't stop.......................!!

Weakness:

Well ,when you are used to low gas prices in Indiana, the mileage kind of hits you in the old pocketbook. I haven't figured out MPG yet. I'm just having too much fun driving the darn thing. One thing that I wasn't sure about was the spare tire. It's a full size and it's on a great looking rim, but the rim doesn't match the others. If you are going to pay around 40,000, like I paid for mine, because of the high demand and the GM strike, you would think that they would give you that rim that matches!!!!!

With the remote start, and taxes, $41,000 Would I recommend it? If you have read up to this point, what do you think the answer is....._ _ _ !!

With todays new updated items, I guess it's what you want in a SUV. Everyone tries to out do each other. This truck is a very solid work of art. To compare it to another would not be classey. When people see the word on the back, YUKON, that says it all. There is nothing to compare that to!!!!!

Brakes have been the problem, if the ABS brake system is not working your brake peddle almost touches the floor board. needless to say the vehicle requries some distance to stop

Government price in 1995 was $25,000.00 I am presently intrested in another GMC Yukon 4dr I was quoted $37,500.00 the Yukon is a nice vehicle but not at that price it appears they are trying over rate this vehicle

Strength:

Roomy, comfortable seats, features

Weakness:

Too heavy, terrible brakes, handling, power, slow responding transmission, styling could be a little less boxy, some will miss the third row seating

I know this thing is heavy and it is, afterall, a sport utility vehicle, but the brakes are quite poor even considering its size. Stepping on the brakes is like stepping on a large sponge. I never know if it's going to stop or not and it is like taking a leap of faith every time I have to brake suddenly. The brake system has been checked twice by dealer and they say all is O.K. Appears many others are having the same experience with the brakes.

Perhaps it is the altitude (I live at 6200ft elevation), but the engine needs a boost. For a big V-8, it lags on even the smallest hills. Acceleration is also definitely a notch or two below the other large sport utes (excluding it's big brother the Suburban and I haven't driven the Ford Excursion yet). It seems like I have to press the gas pedal at least 75% of its travel to get it to move at any acceptable rate. To make things worse, the transmission is slow to respond to the pedal input.

I got a really good deal on the vehicle, which is why I chose time it over the other sport utes I tested. GM has apparently improved the brakes and has added extra horses under the hood for the 2000 model year. If these two items have indeed been improved, then the 2000 Yukon should be a much better vehicle. I also heard they are refining the exterior styling and adding a third row seating option for 2000.

I don't mean for this review to be totally negative as the Yukon is very roomy, comfortable, has tons of features, and has, thus far, been pretty reliable. Unfortunately, however, at least my 99 model could definitely use some refinement and improvements in several key areas. I rate it as an average vehicle---3 stars.
