Strength:

Looks great, rides great, big ute power under the hood. Very comfortable for tall driver/passengers, very roomy. Also easy access for the shorter driver/passenger. It's an intimidator on the road. Handles very well off-road. Nice sound system. Roomy under the hood, looks easy to work on.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, it's a V8. Brake pads, it weighs 5500 lbs. I haven't had to replace anything major....yet.

If you are in the market for a full size SUV, be prepared for extra cost. Gas, brakes, tires, etc. If you have zero mechanical skills, it could be costly to keep on the road. So far so good with mine, (knock on wood). Only has 36,000 miles. I'm prepared for anything that goes wrong. The truck was blue booked @ $23,300 counting all the extras. I paid $15,600 to be exact. I haven't seen many YUKONS down here. Most people have Mitsubishi, Toyota, or Nissan SUV's....cheaper to keep on the road. I hope that's why I got a great deal.

Strength:

Roomy, Tall, feel invincible driving it.

Weakness:

This truck breaks down WAY to much. I have had the car for 7 months and have 3 major repairs, 2 in the last month (Dec.)
List of repairs in the last month: Window switch, Oil Pressure Switch, Transfer Case Plugs, Left Front Axle Seal, Left Front Axle, Left Front Axle Bearing, Oil Filter Adapter Seal, Serptine Belt and Tensioner, Water Pump, Fuel Pump. Grand Total: $2400 +

Whats bad is I bought the car from a Chevy dealer, and the GMC dealer does not accept the CREDIT CARD for the Chevy Warranty company. I had to pay myself and get re-imbursed. Its been a month and I still have not seen my money. It took them 3 weeks to process the paper work and then 7 to 10 days to mail (so they say...)

3 Months after I bought the car, coming back from a camping trip the axle rod slammed into the rear axle completely destroying it. It costed over $2500 and over a week to repair.

Gas milage is not that great but what do you expect? You have to know that buying a car like this will eat gas.

Leather is bad quality.
Interior compnents seem cheap and easily breakable. Front drivers window squeaks when going up/down.
Bug guard breaks easily when shutting hood.

Mud guards discolor (they are black) to a dull gray/black quickly as well.

Repairs are very expensive on this car.

In college I was a valet and drove many other SUVs. I was never really impressed with the American SUV's (ford/chevy/gmc), but my wife wanted a Yukon or Suburban for our new born son. Its so roomy that you can change diapers in the car very easily, and it can hold the stroller and all other things in the cargo area with plenty of room to spare. My wife also doesn't feel squished sitting next to the car seat.

We had a honda accord before the yukon and it was so hard to go places with a baby when you need to be able to feed/change diapers sometimes in the car. The yukon eliminated the discomfort of baby upkeep in a car, but...

this car is a complete money pit. We have decided to get rid of it and buy something else...anything else! We have had nothing but problems and don't trust driving the car for long distances.

I have even thought of going and buying another honda, that is how bad I hate this car. Not that I hate honda's, but I am willing to sacrifice the convience of easy baby care for reliabilty of a car.

If you buy this car, it will be in the shop a lot and you will be spending a lot of money in upkeep.

Strength:

great turning radius, nice and easy removal of 3 row seats and lowering 2nd row seats (our large Akita dogs love all the room!), auto 4wd is decent, ride is good, Inside styling and body has updated good looks,

Weakness:

In general, lame dealership, never a pleasure to have to go and deal with them for sales or sevice. No hands free phone available even though we have On Star.. No global postioning available, Hello GM, wake up, it's 2001 here! We have the 285 hp should have option for a 350 or so..Could us a bit more horsepower

I test drove all top end SUV's before buying and like this overall the best.
9 Months with the Yukon and guess I'm generally happy, no problems so far with 14k miles on it. Best value of the group. I recomend.

Strength:

Big, Roomy

Weakness:

Well...many - brakes are very bad, steering sloppy, bad vibration @ 60-70 mph(defect), poor leather quality, poor stereo.

I would never recommend this product to anyone. Investigation this product before you buy. These vehicles have a vibration problem that is well documented by other customers and GM. There is no fix for this vibration problem. I suggest other owners with this same issue visit www.thecomplaintstation.com for futher information regarding this defect and your recourse. You may also type "GMC Yukon Vibration" as keyword and go from there. If you are thinking about purchasing one of these vehicles, beware! If you need further information regarding the vibration issue, feel free to email me.

Strength:

It is big and rides good, looks good and pulls my boat, 4,000 lbs., well.

Weakness:

I have had the Yukon about two years and have had to replace the fuel pump, the transmission went out last week at aproximately 70,000 miles $2000+. The drivers side seat wobbles on a worn bushing and the exhaust just started leaking.

I like the Yukon but but the "truck people" designed an expensive to maintain truck. The drive train is supposed to be designed to handle more than a 4000 lb. load. Maintenance cost for the two years I have owned it is around $4000. Last time.. Oh I forgot the altinator and pads.

Model Reviewed: GMC Yukon 4DR 2WD

Strength:

Roomy, comfortable high bucket seating that is good for backs. Smooth riding on smooth surfaces. Handling is excellent, after installing Edelbrock shocks and 1.25" Hellwig rear sway bar. Should improve with new HR tires (planning Dunlop Sport Rover GTX). For 5200 lbs, and load carrying capacity, I am amazed to get a solid 20 mpg on highway speeds, but 14-15 around local area. Plus, the 5.7 litre engine is quiet, smooth, and has power to spare. Electronic 4-sp transmission is also very smooth shifting, and well programmed.

Weakness:

On rough city streets, it rides rough. Must be due to the wheels bouncing around, even with high performance shocks. Original 2WD front-coil suspension is way too soft, resulting in passengers getting car sick easily over the hill to Santa Cruz, and too much underdamped roll. But that is fixed now.

Yes, I'm not sure anything else would compare, and would get 2WD again for high mileage and smoother ride than 4x4's. 2WD also rides lower, easier to get in, and costs $4K less, too.

Similar Products Used:

Driven Ford Explorer 4x4's, which ride rougher, cost more, smaller, less mileage, less power, narrow track.

The smooth ride and it's very comfortable

Weakness:

It didn't come with an overhead console. Isn't this suppose to be a standard feature. Why didn't it come with an overhead console if the slt is supposed to be a top of the line vehicle with the standard overhead console.

I would recommend it for it's great ride and comfort.

Strength:

I bought a 1996 SLE used for my wife as a daily vehicle and as a tow vehicle for me on the weekends. I am impressed with how well they hold resale value. We bought ours with 59,000 miles and it literally looked as if it came off the showroom floor. Ours must have been a floor demo model as it has every possible option listed. With leather and all the goodies, you feel like you're driving a Cadillac while towing a cord of firewood. Great power/torque for towing. I love the size and the weight makes for a smooth ride. No comparison to other wanna be trucks like the Explorer. Great looks and a timeless design.

Weakness:

Sucks gas but we knew that. At the rate we are going, we will only put on 10,000 miles per year. Brakes are not big enough for such a heavy vehicle. Drivers side power seat wobbles on the track.

I would highly recommend it to anyone considering buying a SUV. I like the fact it's slightly shorter than the Suburban. My wife used to think SUV's were to big and she could not drive one. After she test drove it, she was hooked. She likes being up higher in traffic and feels safer.

Strength:

Powerful Engine, lots of leg room and space, built like a tank, easy to work on.

Weakness:

Not very fuel efficient, but that has to do with the weight of the truck and the way I drive, doesn't seem to align properly.

I would recommend this truck to anyone, once you go to a Yukon you will never want anything else.
