Strength:

Ride, reliability, comfort

Weakness:

Mileage, weight, air conditioning

Overall a fine car. Mileage is 35,000 and no problems. Have upgraded exhaust system, performance chip, air intake and mileage is averaging 20 on highway, 12 around town. Performance is great on a trip through the Rockies. Ride is excellent on long trips. Air conditioning is marginal (we live in low desert). No mechanical problems so far. Would recommend this car. Would like to see GM put it on a diet, 5500 lbs is a lot to move around. Liked the feel of my Cherokee but like the room in the Yukon.

The GMC Ykon and Chevy Tahooe are twins.Until the 2001 model year,The upscale Yukon Denali and an updated version of the cadillac Esclade must make do with an old chassis and less horsepower-and their more expensive than the Yukon and the Tahoe.Handling and braking are improved in the new year models. The car is roomy and quiet.

Strength:

Roomy, rugged, large cargo/towing capacity.

Weakness:

I have needed nearly $6000 in repair work to this vehicle. I have already gone through a transmission, transfer case, AC compressor, starter, alternator, water pump, front diff, thermostat, battery, radiator, etc. Good thing for warantees. I wish I had my tiny Honda CRX back.

Don't buy this truck unless you're good friends with either the dealer or a mechanic. It has been a nightmare since I have owned it.

I would never purchase another GM truck again. You would think trucks would be one thing that the General could get right, but I know of other people with the same headaches I've had. Steer clear of this, and if you really need a big, overpriced SUV, do yourself a favor and go drive a Toyota Sequoia. If you buy a GM, I heavily suggest purchasing the extended warantee, you'll need it.

Jeep Cherokee. I thought the Jeep was horrible mechanically, until I had this vehicle. At least the Jeep can have an excuse, it was almost 10 years old.

Repairs are costly thank goodness for extended warrinties

I have had this truck since 95 when I bought it new. It has been very dependable and only had minor problems. It has 96000miles on it and I pull a boat and a 6000lb camper. I would buy another one but will probably keep mine until it just won't run anymore.

Towing capabilities, responsive steering annd alot of room.

the gas miliage sucks and it is kind of akward to get in the back seats.

I love my truck! It has power,it's great in the snow. It is not too big but and it has lots of room. It's real comfortable on long trips. I also like the cargo room availability too. It is good for taking my snowmobiles to the mountians. And it is great for camping, lot's of space for equipment.

Strength:

Plenty of room, looks amazing when extras are added, easy to park and drive because of height, not many blindspots because of the open concept, good highway driving (used to be good for offroading, but 4X4 screwed up), good take off with 350HP engine, tons of power, sleek look

Weakness:

BRAKES!!! My dad was ready to kill me when my brakes had to be changed twice within 4 months! (Saves a bit when parking brake is applied) Same problem with calipers, light grey interior is horrible with kids, Engine needs to be re-built (260,000 km), rear window latch doesn't hold properly, goes through gas like crazy, 4X4 doesn't work properly, Windshield wiper motor needs to be changed again(2X), Air conditioner is piss warm, black only looks good when shined up, but other then that, wouldn't give it up for the world.

I love my Beast. It doesn't take much to make it look good and it has plenty of room for audio equipment. Kind of hard to get into with a short skirt on, but other then that, perfect. It's a real intimidator on the road. Some jerk in the fast lane, well they'll move when they see your grill practically in their backseats. I wouldn't recommend this vehicle to anyone with a limited income. It takes a lot of money for repairs and gas. But if you have the cash, it's good for going away to school with all the room for clothing, books and friends. Excellent for road trips, chosen hands down. Can fold down the back seat and sleep (I would and did, but now I have too big speakers). Handle's lot's of bass because of size. I love my truck and get plenty of looks because of the size.

Strength:

Very comfortable and lots of room.

Weakness:

Touchy brakes, feels very heavy.

I've had a chance to drive a fully loaded model that just bursts with luxury. It rides smooth. I liked the anti theft system and built in phone. I wasn't impressed with the brakes or teh handling. It feels like you're driving the Suburban. It's great for packing the family in and still having plenty of leg room. I think the styling is kind of outdated.

Strength:

Large, comfortable truck, with plenty of power to tow. Have done cross country trips in this baby and it's like driving your house... all you need is a jacuzzi.

Weakness:

Brakes suck, transmission has leaked from day 1, fit on body is off, and surface rust is annoying (you'd think they do a better job zinc bathing).

Quality is not quite up to Japanese stds, but a nice, large-as-Texas truck with power to spare. The big negative is the Chevy dealer network; one dealer mechanic is more dangerous than the other. Bring the truck in for waranty work on axle seal and the moron rips the boot on the ball joint.

Looks good sitting in the drive way.

Weakness:

Not dependaple

The Yukon is a good looking and riding vehicle, but is the least dependable vehicle I have ever owned. I have replaced the radiator-heater hose connector on intake manifold-driver seat frame-leather seats are terrible (leather seats are now referred to by General Motors as character cracking) Impossible to keep front end aligned-ash tray return springs broken. Transmission housing cracked for the second time today 8/4/01. This is the biggest maintence nightmare I have ever owned. I have had 3 4wheel drive Chevys 1978-86-90(no problems) 2 Toyota 4 wheel drives (no problems) I went today and in the process of purchasing a Discovery II. I have two friends that had 96 and 99 Yukons and both had transmissions replaced before 40000 miles. My Yukon has 69000 miles. I have been a die hard General Motors person since 1953 but in my opion the american made vehicles today are junk, it is a shame a country as great as the USA cannot produce a 4 wheel vehcile that can compet with the foreign countries.
