tons of room, plenty of power for towing and for fun, love the body style (dont like the 2000 body) handles nicely, drives wonderfully. just love my car to death.
Weakness:
the brakes like all others are crap, been through plenty of front pads, broke a rear shoe at 50,000 miles, and replaces all u-joints in drivetrain. has anyone ever noticed that the little plastic stopper on the seatbelt gets stuck behind the lever for adjusting the seat back-it aggrivates me though its not a big deal its just a great vehicle, tons of room for anything- fits 6 half kegs easily when the back seats are folded down. recommend this car to anyone who likes big vehicles with power and luxary on demand. size, power, and hieght. You've got a lot of room here, you can get out of the way of a lot of trouble, and you can see (generally) further than other vehicles.
Weakness:
BRAKES. This guy eats pads for a living. It is a poor design/part pairing for a vehicle this size. Also, the ABS kicks in whenever the brakes are applied and the vehicle hits a bump. (This has caused me one fender bender and a couple near misses; the ABS just keep you moving forward!) The turning radius is bad. There's too many plastic parts on the dash and on the doors; it gives an otherwise nice vehicle a cheesy feel. I paid 14,000 for it with 60K miles. It's got 120 now and it's still going strong. With this edition, GMC effectively broke into what we know as the SUV market, leaving the "truck" market behind, but they forgot a few things. They forgot that a vehicle this size needs brakes that can stop it. They also forgot that making something look like a glorified station wagon on the inside without including a 10 lb tube of superglue is not wise. Too much plastic. Strength:
Lots of room, powerful engine, good turning radius. I have had no problems with excelleration. I noticed a few reviews that did not feel the 1999 Yukon had enough power. All of my driving is on the highway and the Yukon has always exceeded my expectations.
Weakness:
BRAKES! I have had to replace my brakes twice in 2 years! I have 42,000 miles (70, 000km) on this vehicle. I have also had recent trouble with the caliper not releasing enough on the front driver side (which has of course contributed to my problem). I understand that it is going to take a big ancher to stop a beast like the Yukon, but I expected the brakes to be one of the best features the Yukon had to offer. Over all, I have been very please with the 1999 Yukon. Other than my brake/caliper problem, this has been the only problem I have experianced. If any one else has had similar problems with their calipers, please email me and let me know. I believe this to be a serious safety issue for GM. I love the look of this truck, it has looks great in black!! It's roomy and has been very functional hauling around just about everything I can think of to put in it!!!!!! It rides nice, has comfortable seating and ample leg
Weakness:
It does have its problems though, I have replace the master cylinder, brake calipers, rotors and eat brake pads like they're popcorn, I just finished with $1700 between the radiator and the brakes.. I had replace the heater core, thermostat, a leaky manifold gasket, exhaust, it goes through tires and tends to wear them out on the outside edges. I've have problems keeping the truck in alignment, this is normal driving, I have never abused this truck, I have actually babied it, it has 75,000 easy miles on it. My door locks have had problems, one replaced, the ashtray replaced, hood latch replaced, the over head compartment door was replace and my electric drivers seat doesn't work if you actually sit on it, the access seat has had the track replaced 2 times and works if you have enough strength to shove it forward in one hard push, otherwise it take 2 to 3 times. The back seat folds down but not flat and you can't have the driver seat back very far or it catches on that, so you must drive with your seat pushed up. Over all, even with all the problems I still love this truck, I just wish that the repairs weren't so costly and frequent, I almost feel like I got a lemon. I really started having problems when it was approx 21/2 yrs old. I am going to keep until the tires fall off or I can't afford the repair because I love the ride and style and they are so costly now I could not replace it!! Similar Products Used: Jimmy 1996. Strength:
Plenty of Power, Very comfortable interior, easy to drive around town but ready for offroad.
Weakness:
No third seat, the steering feedback is a little weak. The 1997 Yukon is a very nice "mid" sized SUV, easier to get around than a Suburban but has more room and power than the smaller Blazer. The interior is comfortable and everything is easy to operate. The quality of the leather interior seems better than older GM products and is much "softer". I checked out the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Ford Expedition and although the Tahoe is the same (it came down to finding the right color) I was not impressed with the Expedition. I have been very happy with my new truck and would highly recommend it! Similar Products Used: 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. Blazer was nice but a little small and not as good of a towing vehicle |

Great in the snow. Has good power and pick-up. Interior has held up very well. Impressed with the overall package. Almost no problems.
Weakness:
As many know, the brakes are not that great for a truck that wieghs so much. I rear ended someone last Nov. No airbags. Not too worried unless I get stuck on the train tracks. This is one large rig. I have a pressure washing company and have been towing a 6X12 trailer for the past 50,000 miles. I now have 136K on my Yukon and I have no intention of selling it. I am in the market for another SUV and am interested in a Trailbrazer. The only reason I am not buying another Yukon is because I don't need 2 of them. If I could come up with a negitive it would be the gas mileage. If you are in the market for a large SUV stop looking and buy a Yukon/Tahoe. Similar Products Used: Nothing compares to the Yukon. Have driven a 2002 Trailblazer but that is a whole diff. story. For a '94, my truck is great! |

Drives and rides great. Bought vehicle for my son. Vehicle had a 7" Rancho Lift installed with custom rims 15" Eprom had been changed to calibrate speed. Has flow master exhaust with no problems.
Weakness:
4/1/01 vehicle now has 65.000 miles. Hard to keep aligned. Replaced radiator, transfer case cracked-replaced transmission-added external cooler. Replaced starter twice, water pump, heater hose connector on intake manifold. Drivers seat frame broke-repaired. Driver side leather seat replaced by warranty-both seats are now cracking (poor leather quality) Installed sheep skin covers to cover ugly cracking seats. Ash tray broke, rear drink dispenser broke. The vehicle is driven off road quite a bit for fishing and hunting in Fayetteville, Arkansas where my son is a student. Vehicle does good in mud and snow. I would rate the 1995 Yukon two stars for performance, but because of maintence problems I would not rate any higher. Strength:
This 1999 GMC Yukon has so many strengths I don't have time to list them all. Power, looks, lots of room and very very comfortable.
Weakness:
The brakes are the worst part. Front disc and rear drums just don't stop 6000 lbs very well. Just ask the girl driving the Ford Mustang that I ass ended. They changed the brakes starting on the 2000 models now they are 4 wheel disc. Overall this is one of the best SUV's on the market. It holds it's value and It is priced very well compared to other SUV's. Go buy one and try it you'll love it I promise. Strength:
This is a gorgeous truck, lots of room, lots of towing power, handles great off road. I have 2 kids and run them all over town. it is incredibly comfortable. I also pull a boat every weekend and have no complaints other than the pitiful braking system. This is 3rd Yukon I have owned, 95,97,99. Obviously the fact that I have had 3 Yukons tells you that the strengths far outway the weaknesses.
Weakness:
And now for the weakness, these vehicles have the poorest excuse for brakes that I have ever seen. I go through pads every 10k. I also have lots of trouble keeping it in alignment. I rated it 4 stars on both categories due to the fact that even with the misgivings it is a superior vehicle. Similar Products Used: Owned a 99 Ford Expedition for a little over a week, Yukon gets better gas mileage and handles much better around corners. |
