Strength:

Reliability, mileage, looks, convenience,

Weakness:

cramped engine compartment

I never owned a 4x4 until I purchased my Jimmy. I always thought that if the weather was at a point where I had to use 4x4, I would just stay at home that day. Let me tell you that all changed when I tried my cousins Jimmy out. I found the vehicle for me. I went for the sport suspension knowing I would not be off-road all the time. The suspension is great for highway driving with some sharp corners. I have turned beside other 4x4's on the road and watched them almost flip over as I sped away. I have been in situation where I have had to jam on the brakes and almost fly out the window. In the mud it can be a little ruff but it still gets me though it. I have 120,000 Km on the vehicle and I have only had to change out the MAF sensor on it. I am using a K&N filter which seems to get me some good low rpm power when I need it. I have owned other vehicles with the 4.3 L and have had very good luck with them for power and reliability. The mileage is excellant compared to other 4x4's in the same category. I am amazed I can pack everything into the vehicle when I go camping and when I go camping I have equipment for every possibility you can encounter on a camping trip. My SUV is not a grocery getter in any way. I have been through rugged back country, long distance highway travel, and mud bogged logging roads and I have been smiling all of those 120,000 Km's.

Strength:

drives nice

Weakness:

everything mechinacal

To date I have replaced the alternator 3 times, the water pump, the battery, the heater core and the right front wheel bearing. The truck has spent more time in the shop than on the road and I rate it poorly for reliablity.

Strength:

Power, Comfort, Handles well in bad weather.

Weakness:

Brake issues.

I have had a great experience with the Jimmy. 82,000 miles and running strong. I have had to do nothing other than brake replacement, dealership covered under warranty. I highly suggest using duralube to prolong engine life and create a much smoother ride. This truck is roomy and luxurious and handles in poor weather like a champ!!

Strength:

This vehicle doesn't owe me anything. It has been driven off road, in rough climates, carried lumber and drywall and dogs and goats. Interior is still excellent (surprisingly). Exterior looks pretty rough despite having been repainted and whatnot a few years ago. Only got stuck once so badly that I needed a tractor to pull me out. The rest of the time it has gotten me out of trouble.

Weakness:

Number one is Rust. It has rusted really badly, and I had all the extra rust protection done to it. The plastic rim guards on the wheel wells are a bad idea, as it allowed the water to stay behind them and then the plastic falls off and the rust is worse where the plastic stayed longest. The doors also seem to collect water and rust at the bottom. Where I live they salt the roads in the winter and it's really hard on vehicles, but the rust seems to be worse than other vehicles of the same vintage. 2. The CV axle boots. I get them checked regularly, and every time there seems to be one cracked or missing. It is really important that the axle boots are intact, and I have spent a lot of money checking and replacing these. I can understand if I have been doing a lot of offroading, but often it happens even when I'm just city and highway driving. 3. Theft. These vehicles were at the top of the list for a while for theft. I have had mine stolen once and thanks to the police got it back in almost one piece, and attempted theft again. I was using the truck club and they couldn't get the club off. Now that it is old and rusty it is not such a target anymore.

Right. 1991 Jimmy S-10 V6 bought brand new, with all the bells and whistles. I drive 10,000 km a year (6000 miles) so it now has 130,000 km (about 80,000 miles) on it. In Canada. Serious winter driving which is why you need a 4X4.

Car won't stop and brake pedal depresses to the floor when the truck is on a bumpy surface!

Scared to death of driving this car! Have had it in the shop only to be told nothing is wrong. Car looses traction in curves based on road surface and brakes won't stop the car! Going over a bump in a curve and needing brakes is a scary place to be!

Pretty comfy ride thats about it.

Weakness:

electrical, brakes, made very poorly.

Wow, I could write a book. I bought this car new and the second month I had it thats when the problems started. Initially, it was the ABS light. I took it in 5x for the same problem over the first year. The dealership would replace different things and guess what was wrong with it and finaly fixed it the last time I took it in. Prior to this, the ABS started to interfere with my actual braking and there were times I could barely stop. Ok, the headlights completely went out while driving home from work 1 night. My ignition failed, had to be replaced. My serpentine belt went to crap and had to be replaced. A year after that was replaced, it started making loud noises again! A bolt in one of my rear brakes just broke off for no reason. I just got rid of the clunker thank god and got a Nissan. Never ever will I trust a GM vehicle again. I will stick to foreign. Had an Acura for nine years, never had any problems. One more warning, the "Smart Buy" with GMC is a scam. Dont fall for it. You'll be outta your pocket a lot of money if you turn it in. May as well do a lease.I learned my lesson the hard way.

Strength:

Comfortable, good in the snow, great A/C and heating system. (When it works) Our Dogs love it.

Weakness:

The thing keeps breaking down. You start living in fear "What's next" Very poor gas mileage.

This is my 2nd review on this vehicle. Last year it got a "glowing" review but the "honeymoon" is apperntly over. What started as a promising and hopefull relationship has for us like the most of you quickly turned into one disappiontment after another. This truck in the last 8-7 months been back at the dealership on an almost monthly basis. Luckily we bought the extended warranty GMPP, but we are on a monthly basis paying the $100.00 deductible on top of our loan payment. The problems have been, the coolant turned to a sludge like substance clogging the heater core resulting in no heat in the truck. No fun in Canada!! The Rt Frt door hinge broke. The Lt Frt door hinge broke shortly thereafter. The Rt. Rear door speaker stopped working. The Altenator went without warning stranding my wife, and frying the battery. The battery was not covered under warranty. The upper ball joints wore out. The Idler Arm required replacement. The Lt Frt hub/bearing required replacement. I have just now booked another appoinment at the dealer, becuse the heater fan suddenly stopped working. No heat again! These are not "Major" breakdowns but they are a pain in the butt. We are seriously thinking about unloading the truck prior to the extended warranty expiring. The moral of the story is if you are considering buying a Jimmy/Blazer get the extended warranty. The repair bills on these trucks will bankrupt you!!! Or better yet send the extra money and buy Japanese!!! I spent 15 years in the Automotive industry and in those years have never met a unhappy Honda, Toyota, Nissan or Mazda owner. I have met lots of Chrysler, Ford, GM owners. I always believed GM was the better of the big 3 but I am starting to re-think this. I should have spent the extra $ and bought a Toyota 4 Runner. I would not recommend one of these trucks.

ELECTRAL PROBLEMS

a piece of junk. liked it for the first week. when bought in 1999 it had 14,000 miles on it. within 1 month it was in the shop for 2 weeks. car dealer wouldn't do anything about it or tell me anything. i should have done more checking out before i bought it. within 3 years it's had 4 ingition switches a new dash board cluster, new base for drivers seat, new handles for the reclining they broke off in my hand. drivers seat flies backwards when backing down a slight hill. it's bad when you can't reach the steering wheel and brake. new heater coil.TRANSMISSION HAS NEVER FELT LIKE IT SHIFTED INTO GEAR RIGHT. HAVEN'T BEEN HAPPY WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. IT NEEDS A NEW IGNITION SWITCH EVERY THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. LUCKILY I BOUGHT THE EXT.WARRANTY THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT HAS BENEFITED OUT OF BUYING THIS JUNK

Ummmm...can't think of ANY!

Weakness:

I replaced brakes 2x,transmission 2x, alternator, battery, coolant problems, finally had to drop a whole new engine at 82,000mi, AC compressor, the service engine light has been on since i bought the hunk of junk in 1999. I've put so much $$$ into this damn thing I HATE it! I pray every night someone will just steal the damn thing...but, i guess they are smarter than we all were.GMC repair people are rude and not helpful at the least. I took it in for ABS recall and got it back it barely even runs took it back they claim i need $700 more repairs and now the radio went out. Nothing like job security!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the BIGGEST piece of sh!t I've every seen! Don't bother unless of course you enjoy dumping ALL your $$$$$ into fixing the damn thing just so you can get to work and back!!!!!! Wish i would have come across this web site a lot sooner! DON'T EVEN THINK TWICE ABOUT IT!
