Strength:

Roomy interior Easy to read gauges and comfortable ride When compared to other SUV, good value for your money

Weakness:

Minor premature brake job at less than 50000km Engine could be more powerful

This is my second GMC Jimmy and I have yet to be disappointed. I found the fit and finish better than an Explorer but not as powerful as a Jeep Cherokee. The ride is smooth and the interior is very roomy. I found the cargo capacity better than a Lexsus SUV.

Strength:

smooth ride, power

Weakness:

i am long legged, few cars are comfortable

after having test driven and grilling my gear head friends. i decided on the jimmy. those who do own it, love it and those who don't want one. after reading this page it seems painfully obvious that whether or not i enjoy mine will be based on LUCK.

Strength:

Sturdy quality of construction. Reliable, low incidence of repairs. Good looks, comfortable to drive and ride in. Decent mid range price vs quality for an SUV.

Weakness:

I'd like more power. Quality of the upholstery in newer models not as good as previous.

This is my third in the GM mini SUV line, no regrets so far altho, this one is barely tried yet. First was an 85 jimmy, then a 91 Blazer, now a 99 Jimmy. They have been great as far as not needing repairs, not letting me down on the road. So far since the first one, the biggest repair was replacing a guage cluster - warranty (whew) and an alternator, also warranty. This newest one is an absolute pleasure, many usual bells and whistles are standard, the truck is a pleasure to drive. It does have a very trucklike ride which I like, power is decent, but could be better. Interior is somewhat crowded in newer models, but I find that in most newer vehicles, it still is nicely roomy - in the front, one needs to be an acrobat to get into the back (it's a 2 dr), running boards will solve that, as they did on the last one. I'm looking forward to the same trouble free years of perfomance I had in the previous Jimmys/Blazers I've owned.

Strength:

Great looks!! Awesome winter car!! Ergonomics an A!! Strong engine!!

Weakness:

Weak tranny, EGR, plastic switches keeps breaking. electrical gremlins abounds!! Inept corporate costumer service & quality control.

I have a love - hate relationship with this suv. The tranny went out at 5 days after I bought it. I was stupid for keeping it but I was already attached to it. No problems for a year except for the engine light going on and off once in a while. Then one night all my lights would not turn off! The dealership could not find the cause and manage to control it by shutting of one of the junctions. They told me that it may not a permanent fix!!?? A call to corporate yeilded no results. Does GMC even have a quality assurance dept.?? Now the rear glass keeps popping open even when the car is going down the street. I love this car but I don't think I can afford to keep it.

Strength:

Reliable. Comfortable.

Weakness:

Recliner handle broke off passenger seat -however, this was quickly resolved by the dealer under warranty. Fluid in coils made a swooshing sound @ 40K miles...however, this was inexpensively resolved by the dealer.

We purchased this vehicle new in 1998. We are very pleased with the auto, infqct we woulod keep it - if we were nmot at the end of a 4 yr lease with a VERY high residual.

Strength:

only one winter but so far great in snow. drives like a car. great visibility. easy to shift into 4x4.looks good.

Weakness:

do not drive long distances, leg cramps after 1 hour. not enough driver storage. not much storage space unless rear seats are flat. i leased this vehicle 10 months ago with 6km on it. i currently have approx. 15000 . on vacation i put 8000 on it in 3 weeks (lots of leg cramps and 2 swollen ankles) prev. to my vac. i noticed a clunking noise when going from rev. to drive. took it to dealer to request trans diagonistic. no problems. took it in for an oil change after returning (oil light has never come on) from vac. to discover the transmission casing was cracked. 5 days to remove fix and replace after waiting 2 weeks to actually get an appointment . now it is leaking all over my driveway again. who pays to have my interlocking stone cleaned ? the reason i wanted a new vehicle is because i don't know anything and don'want any old car hassels now everynite after work i have to lay cardboard to save my drive. trim is falling off everywhere.(lost window trim driving on highway) i can count at least 30 paint bubbles of which were "taken care" of loosing use for 2 days. i showed them 5 and i was told they would do a visual of the whole truck. they fixed 5!! another trip to the dealer.

i believe in keeping as much business as i can in canada

Strength:

The only strength that I can think of is the 4WD. Very good in snow.

Weakness:

I would say the whole car besides the 4 wheel drive.

I bought a 1995 used GMC Jimmy in 1998. I have nothing but problems starting with the first 6 months I drove it off the car lot. I have only put 50,000 miles on this vehicle and I have replaced the water pump, the entire fuel injection system. The fuel pump which in fact wires were sticking out inside the gas tank and could of blown up if filled up all the way. Replaced the altenator. The oil pressure tube that goes to the oil filter just "popped" off and dumped all the oil out of my car and my engine seized. I had to purchase a rebuilt engine. The radiator then went out and had to get that replaced. I have replaced the brakes and brake pads twice. I could probably go on if I had the rest on my invoices in front of me. This has nikel & dimed me to death. I'm single and bought it for the 4wd for my children to be safe during winter months. I don't even know if I will get to work most days. I change my own oil faithfully and get everything checked when it's due. I have paid over $600.00 in towing this car to get repaired and I have put more than 3 times the car is worth in repairs. I will never buy another GMC and I feel I'm lucky to be alive with this vehicle. My car has once again broke down and I again have no vehicle. This time I cannot figure out what it could be the dealership said maybe the coil or control module??? This is my story and I advise anyone looking at a GMC Jimmy to run fast!!!!!

Strength:

Lots of room, dependable, good in snow and other inclement weather.

Weakness:

Wind travel,

I've had my Jimmy since 1995, bought new. Until last year, I have had NO, repeat NO major repairs. Last year I replaced a battery. alternator, freeze plugs and a water pump. No problems with ABS. I love this truck, and at 120,000 miles, I hate the thought of looking for a replacement. It has an above average affinity to snow, ice for any vehicle is a lucky prospect. The onyl problem Ive found is in heavy wind - the higher profile gives the air much more force.

Model Reviewed: GMC Jimmy

Strength:

This vehicle will go through ANYTHING with ease. Rain, 5 feet of snow, slush, ice, mud, you name it. My 1993 GMC Jimmy will go through it with no problems. Never been stuck, never been broken down. And it rides like a dream down the highway. And the anti lock brakes will stop the vehicle on a dime. And as for the handling, it handles better than some "sports" cars I have driven! Sure if there are 70 MPH winds you feel it more in a vehicle like this than in some little car. But the four wheel independant suspension holds it to the ground like glue. And, the 190 horsepower V-6 Vortec engine is AWESOME. I seriously doubt there is a better V-6 motor out there in any vehicle of any make or model. How many cars do you know of with 200,000 miles on it that still run, ride, and drive like a dream?

Weakness:

The vehicle did seem to rust rather quickly in the wheel wells. But, if you take care of it, that isn't a problem or a weakness in my opinion, as the strengths of this vehicle more than make up for that one weakness! :)

Unlike some people, I am not here to bash car companies and lie about the cost of parts and exaggerate problems just because I think other car companies are somehow superior. I am only here to give an honest review. My 1993 GMC has been GREAT. When I bought it, it had 33,000 miles on it. Now, 7 years later, it has 199,952 miles on it. (Thats right folks. An american car with almost 200,000 miles on it. And it will easily make it to 300,000 miles and more!) In that time I have had VERY little problems with it. I have replaced the fuel pump once. (That cost me under $100)And the ball joints once. (That cost me $300) I also had to replace the EGR valve twice. (that cost me $75 the first time. It was free the second time as it has a lifetime warranty) And that's it! (Although I did have to bring it to the GM dealer to have the ABS sending unit replaced. It was part of the recall. And, that was free.) If your looking for a 4X4 SUV that will safely and comfortably get you where you need to go and always be there for you, the GMC Jimmy is the vehicle for you. I will never buy anything but GM products in the future after owning this excellent piece of American made machinery.
