Very Poor Quality Control Hello to all. I purchased a 2001 GMC Jimmy in August of 2001. I was very satisfied with this vehicle when I first bought it and figured that I would give General Motors a second chance after having problems with there products in the past. Well here we go. After having this vehicle for two weeks the 5 speed manual transmission went out and they, "the service department" had to order a new transmission from detroit, so the said. After I had this work done and I thought everything was fixed within the next two weeks I started hearing a metal to metal popping noise coming from the front end. I took it back to the shop and was told that the front ball joints had never been greased so they repaired this item and said that I was good to go. I now have a grand total of 17500 miles on the vehicle and guess what, you guessed right, its back in the shop again getting the transmission rebuilt again. Also the rear pinion seal on the differential started leaking and this to is now in the process of being replaced. Also there is now a new leak coming from somewhere on the engine that will have to be repaired also. This truck seems like it likes the GM shop more than my driveway. I will never again buy another General Motors product for this reason. It makes a person realize why the Japenese are building better products with better quality control. |

Bad fuel pump Bad electrical It's a GMC!!! Should have bought a Ford. At first I was quite happy with this vehicle. It ran great, tears it up off road, and rides nice. But then I started having SERIOUS problems. The first thing to go was the fuel pump. I would be stopped at a light, go to start out, and the engine would just die. After doing some research, I found it was the fuel pump, which the dealer wanted $900 to fix. What kind of fuel pump costs $900 to fix? I knew I should have gone with a Ford. It would have only cost me $80!!! Anyway, after the fuel pump, I've had to replace the front brake pads twice, and the rear brake shoes once. And that's all within 11,000 miles. You can't tell me that's normal wear and tear. Now all I want to do is get out from under this vehicle as fast as I can. I can name about 5 other things that have gone wrong, but I don't have the time. |

after 3 years basically the car starts to fall appart. Was a very good car up to 3 years old. Since last year i had to replace both wheel bearings (800.00 Ea) also both front doors were leaking water so i had to replace the door bushings, and just last week i had to replace the transfer case encoding motor wich i was charged 2100.00. I am VERY disapointed with this car, and looking to trade it ASAP. Talking with other people, apparently these problems are common. I must add that i dont use this car off road, and i dont abuse my cars. |

This thing will get you way back in the woods excellent 4WD. With all its low end torque the 4.3L will pull just about anything. Cupholders - good ones are hard to find.
Weakness:
The recall really isn't a weakness- GM isolated the problem and fixed it. The only thing I can think of are the upper and lower ball joints, they seem to wear (didn't have any trouble with them until I hit 90K miles) this is about a $130 fix and will take you about 2 hours or so to replace. First off, when I bought the car there were a few things wrong with it (mostly cosmetic). For instance broken dash moldings, and the 4wd didnt work(due to a faulty vacuum transfer switch). The people that owned it before me treated it like a piece of crap, and tore it all the hell up. After alittle babying the car is perfect (most all the work was done free of charge thanks to the dealership). I have never had any trouble, never stranded, and never had to empty out my pockets the car runs like a champ. The 4WD Jimmy and Blazer had one recall having to do with a transfer switch in the ABS. GM took care of the recall in less than an hour free of charge. I think most of the people driving and reviewing these or any other SUV are people that don't really need an SUV they get them for status. SUV's don't drive like passenger cars they're made to go off road or tow a trailer!! They won't get 50 mpg and are top heavy (they will sway) THEY AREN'T SPORTS CARS PEOPLE!! If you want fuel economy, soft luxury ride, and road handling get a sedan or a minivan. For me this car is perfect, I spend alot of time off road and tow trailers alot. You can't beat it. need i say more? Words to the wise!! We had bought our jimmy with only 46000 miles on it. In the first month we had it we replaced the alternator(and battery). We thought we were in the clear being that the $8000 "deal" we had was too good to be true. This last month (we only put 1000 miles on it) the transmission cable went out on us. Wondering what can possibly happen next and hoping that mom isn't stuck with our not even one month old somewhere!! |

all electrical componants, noise , vibration, fuel pump , repairs are expensive. We have owned this lemon for two years. In those two years we have replaced the fuel pump, ignition switch, passenger side mirror, and brakes. I have flushed the radiator because the dex cool that was in it looked like sludge. I have to keep turning the ignition key back and forth until it gets in a position that it wants to come out.The service engine light has been coming on and going off.The gas pedal doesnt want to depress sometimes without tapping it. Makes a roaring noise when started. cd player works sometimes. The dome light wouldnt go off because the door wouldnt push the switch in.The rubber cup holders are a joke . I am upside down on this money pit by 3 - 4 thousand dollars.i am relieved to write that we are trading this UNCERTIFIED lemon off in two days. |

Strength:
Cargo space; solid, safe-feeling car; pretty reliable; seats comfortable and roomy for all passengers. decent handling for a car that size.
Weakness:
Standard sound-system is crappy. What the hell is up with those dumb rubber cup holders? Mine accidentally got thrown away while cleaning out the car a month after I got it. This is a pretty good solid car. Have had some repeat problems but over all it is reliable as long as you take care of it. Was in a wreck a month ago when a sedan ran a red light at 35-40 mph and slammed into driver's side of the truck; I couldnt open either door on that side afterwards but I felt very safe and was not so much as sore the next day. Damage is so bad they're trying to call the vehicle totalled - I am sad! Poor fuel economy however is making me consider a compact. Similar Products Used: 1991 Blazer - best car ever. |
