Strength:

Looks,power,comfort (great seats),safety

Weakness:

Standard stereo is just barely adequate.

I love my cherry red Jimmy!I dressed her up with a sunroof, fog lamps and Michelin Cross Terrain white letter tires and I can't walk away from her without turning back for another look. She is gorgeous. No problems mechanically either.Everything works, except I had to take her in twice for a coolant leak. All kinds of power in the old Vortec V-6.Slightly noisier and slightly harsher ride than a car,but nothing you can't get used in 1st 5 minutes driving it.This is my 1st truck and I really like the way it drives.Great 4 wheel ABS brakes too.The automatic 4 wheel drive works great and gives you great sense of security in the snow and ice of which we have plenty up here in Canada. Handling is not great, but unless you are going to do slalom race around pylons its just fine.Gas mileage is not great either ,but I knew that before I bought.I am getting about 18 to 20 miles per canadian gallon, which is about 15 to 18 miles per american gallon. For this type of vehicle it is acceptable gas mileage. After reading all the negative comments on this website I checked into extended warranties offered by GM. They offer several plans. I purchased their "U" plan that extends the original warranty to 6 years or 80,000 kilometers. I paid $1450 canadian dollars and I think thats a bargain.

Vortec V-6 motor, 4x4, handling (when lowered), aftermarket stereos sound great, look great, love it

Weakness:

Some mechanical problems, but what doesnt

I bought this car about 3 years ago, yes I have had problems with the car, water pump, windshield wiper motor, ball joints, electric problems, transmission, 02 sensors, brakes. Sounds like a lot of problems, but you know what its worth it, I have done all the repair work and aftermarket work to my car, it looks great and drives great still. Whats funny is if you go to a dealership, yeah you are getting ripped off and they probably arent even fixing the right problem. I read in a post earlier that some guy paid $100 bucks to replace his door pin... did he know that the pin only costs 5 bucks at a auto parts store.... so find a redneck mechanic in your area, they dont mess around and they are alot cheaper. But anyways, I love my car and I would rather fix whatever problems arise, I mean if I fix em all, its new right???? hmmmmm

nothing

My father gave me his used 1991 jimmey. It ia a 4-door 4x4 with every added thing you could put on it and I love it. The only thing I don't like is tha tsome people don't like them. I had to re-build the digital clustar (dash), paint it becuase it had rusted a little, put shocks on it, re- did the rear brakes, changed the oil and filter, e-tested it, and so on. But you need to do these things so that a older car will run. I love it. That 190hp Vortec V6 is nothing but pure power. And the 4-wheel drive is the best I have ever seen. As far as I think I give GMC two thumbs way up. The jimmy is one of the, in my opinion, the best trucks (suvs) going.

Strength:

Lots of room overall. Mechanically-I have been lucky with mine.

Weakness:

I can only suggest you buy a 4 door if you have to drive family. Older folks cannot get into the back.

Have 136,000 miles on it. When I think hard about this SUV - I really have had no "serious" problems with it and am over all happy with it. It's been smooth sailing. I am hoping she lasts to 199k+ like the previous guy wrote in his post. I do want to compare repair prices on what I did have to fix that came up recently. I have had to get a new fuel pump @ approx $200 shop bill. Then bout a month ago I had to replace the alternator @ approx $250 shop bill. Today, this shop is telling me that the transmission fluid needs to be changed/replaced and they are saying its going to cost me about $150 --- Does this sound right?? for transmission fluid? Over the life of the car its just been regular oil changes with no real problems til this year but its got a lot of miles on it so I know these things are coming. Any other tips or suggestions for regular maintenance to keep her going? Thanks

Ever since I bought my Jimmy, its been nothing but amazing. I bought it with 90,000 miles on it and it runs as if it's brand new. Ive driven it from Long Island, to Ohio, and back to Long Island, as well as to South Carolina and back. What more can I say besides how much I love it. I'd recommend it to anyone. its a good, reliable truck.

EVERYTHING NOTHING BUT THE RADIO WORKS WITH ANY CONSISTANCY`

On my way home from picking up my jimmy the thing over heated. an omen you say? yes that was the first of many problems. The water pump had to be changed along with everything that was around it over $300 in the first week. After that only minor things the windshield wipers have a mind of their own...they decide how fast they run and even when they are going to run. Ive replaced the wipers twice because they kept flying off on the highway! the buzzer in the driver side door started going off when going over bumps then progressed to coming on and off at any given moment. The spark plugs are hard as hell to change. The ground for the computer broke off whatever it was attached to! NOW the jimmy is not wanting to start. Well it will if you baby it.I wonder how much that will cost! Ive only had it 10 months and its been one thing after another WHAT A HEADACHE

Excellent motor, awesome 4 wheel drive system, lots of power, excellent anti lock breaking system, etc!

Weakness:

Could use a better stereo system maybe. Otherwise, there is no weakness!

You people crack me up. Sounds to me like most of your problems are cause by BAD driving habits and by your not taking care of the vehicle. I bought my 1993 Jimmy in 1996. It has the Vortec V6 4.3 Liter engine. And it has been AWESOME. When I bought this vehicle it had just 33,000 miles on it. It now has 199,823 miles on it. And I just got back from a 500 mile road trip. It ran GREAT! Here is what I have had to do to it: In the seven years I have owned it I have had to replace all four ball joints once (cost $375), the fuel pump once (cost $150), the alternator once (was covered by warranty) and the EGR valve twice ($150). Other than that, the ONLY things I have done to this vehicle were what is known as ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. You know? The things you do to keep your vehicle a good running vehicle? I Change the oil every 3000 miles, and the transmission fluid every 70,000. I have also changed the plugs and wires three times, and I add a bottle of STP fuel injection treatment to the gas tank once a month. What else can I say? The GMC Jimmy (and now the Envoy) with the 4.3 engine is AWESOME. Mine runs great, drives great, shifts great and looks great!

Strength:

Fun to drive when it runs.

Weakness:

Definatly the door joints in the front. The doors are too heavy for the pins and it cost 100$ each ever year to replace the pins.Plus fuel pump may be a re-occuring problem in these cars.

I have had this car now back to the dealer twice. The front sounds like the doors and tires are comming off. The dealer repair shop claims the pins in the door are normal wear and tear (even thought they were replaced a year before). The car has serious front wheel and door problems and hesitates when I pull out from a stop (almost stalls). The dealer sees no problems even though it was towed in twice (Guess why-I'm still under warranty!!!!). I just picked it up Friday and had to jump start it an hour later. Please-----do not buy this car.
