Your Mechanic can retire early.

Weakness:

Endless Mechanical Problems. Premature Major Component Failures.

The "Readers Digest" version of my story is that this vehicle is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. A fully loaded "S***box"! This truck was maintained by the book, babied with the best of everything. Never abused, off roaded or used for towing. It spent more time in the dealership than on the road. Mechanically these are simply inferior vehicles. Constant Mechanical failures! Just read the other reviews, I've had all those problems too! I am in the process of unloading this lump, for a Japanese SUV. The Japanese dealership had trouble finding a Wholesaler that would even bid on a Jimmy. They definetly did not want it! Needless to say I took a real loss on the trade in. The problem is that any educated person in the automotive industry knows these trucks are nothing but problems. Sure I could have tried to sell it privately, but I doubt I could have slept at night knowing I screwed some poor innocent soul selling them this piece of crap. GM knows these trucks are crap but gives nothing but lip service and BS. Finally off the record the service manager admitted to me that everyone knows these trucks are inferior. The new Envoys etc are no better. I will never buy another GM product. All I can say is "DO NOT BUY ONE!! You will regret it! I'm just glad to be getting rid of it. It will NOT be missed. Without a doubt the WORST vehicle I have ever owned. GM's add says "like a Rock". Crack Cocaine is referred to as "Rock" and just like Crack this vehicle will bankrupt you.

great look very dependable when ALL maint. is done !! not just oil changes....

Weakness:

Require good maint. schedule ??

I have a 2001 jimmy tbody and have been a tech. with GM for 20 years until moving into service advising last year. The t body truck or jimmy/blazer is other than having to at one point do your ball joints which by the way are being takin care at GM on a growing number of later model t bodies. The t body has a specific maint. guide and if followed to the letter or close the vehicle will be a great one in the majority of cases, the biggest problem seen in most failures are due to lack of recommended services and maint. I hear it everyday "i do all the maint. to it since i got it" oil changes and in some cases tire rotations. NOT all the maint. the high percentage of fuel pump failures are due to plugged fuel filters (picture running up hill with a rope around your throat)nobody wants them chnged even when packaged at 39.99 !! . To protect against a unneeded 400.00 + repair. Comon? The ball joints and door pins have been a mainstay on t bodies it is true but many late models now have repair bullitins out to fix them under policy, also in fairness the oil cooler lines are an issue, around a 250.00 repair at one point in the vehicles life. The T bodies are a very nice looking and very well put together overall package. The sle i drive has 40k on it and has no concens at all but i buy my maint. complete.Having a honest service connection and a one person contact is of great benifit now days (morning mrs. denny )they know you ,your vehicles and what your needs are. I also note that the toyota has a very good track record but with certain problems that are popping up,difference parts pricing. "My import truck has not had aproblem yet....well hang on if it does!!")The T body also has an amazing number of them on the road so what are the real percent of t body owners who have had a less than great experience. On a scale of 1-10 the S and T bodies rate a 8. in all fairness. I ran my 93 (bought in that year 6500 miles) 187,908 miles and sold it to my friend who still drives it everyday,now...work done to that truck less GOOD RECOMMENDED MAINT>alternaor,3 serp belts,3 sets of tires(was about due when sold)fuel tank (NY state salt !!)radiator last year and exhaust 2 times. the truck was and still is great and would recommend them to all,do all the maintinence, there is an owners manual in your vehicle and if you follow it complete if you do have a concern or breakdown you can have a good honest platform to pitch a legit. complaint. If you have developed a service dept. relationship it just makes it even easier for a policy to used in your case due to a great service history. But GM and any business that wants to stay a business has to look at the returning, service/sales/parts customer to use these policies on first. Not the only in for warranty, never buys any recommended maint.at dealer or anywhere(you can tell by looking over vehicle)kind of like buying a 90,000.00 house but rather than spend some money and have it painted let it rot and shell out again........ soon.Maintinence is the key to any great experience be it a pool ,house, garden or....Jimmy/Blazer. Yes??

I wish I would have known about this site before I purchased this jimmy. Has been the worst nightmare in anything I have bought. And lucky for me i had bought the extended warranty which is up at the end of this month, which after paying the 100. visit its getting costly and they wont tell you when there is another problem they put it on the slip with your services when its done so you will have to bring it back again for another 100. (stating they cannot report nothing wrong unless you told them it was a problem) but here are a few of the problems and as I'm typing this it is at the dealership again Front seats had to be replaced at 1,200 miles. Have complained about transmission with them several times with them finding nothing wrong. I do no off road driving. And to hear people say its on how you take care of your vehicle that's not true as this is in every time its supposed to be plus more than normal oil changes. Its on how they build these cars. and where they import the parts for these cars from.My husband also works for GM (office) and he said they have always known about all these things but fail to do anything about it Loose shock mounting bolts at 1,200. Right side electric mirror replaced at 1,667. Replaced weather strip on right door 1,667. Exhaust Leak due to missing nut from Exhaust stud at manifold at 3,461. REPLACED ITEMS Front headlight assembly replaced at 4,002. All stripes replaced at 4,002. Right side electric mirror 4,002. Stripes replaced again at 20,000. faulty right rear speakers at 20,976. drivers seat recliner mechanism 20,976. both outside rear view mirrors badly fading at 20,976. both doors outer glass seal 20,976. New battery positive post broken 22,001. passenger seat recliner handle due to shaft broken 22,001. all decal stripes again 22,001. broken ground wire to cigarette lighter housing 22,001. lower cooler line at transmission at 37,621. pinion seal for the front axle at 39,092. both inner CV boots for the front axles at 52,204. the both side hub and bearing and seal at 52,204. 2 rear support struts for rear hatch window at 56,003. Reprogrammed computer with updated calibrations at 56,003. left outer CV boot at 56,003. both lower and left upper ball joints at 56,003. pressure cycling switch at 68,078. cracked intake gaskets at 68,078. outer CV boot at 68,078. Front axle at 68,078. right front wheel hub at 78,487. Replacing as I write this the front axle seal, transmission making loud noises, another leak from the front, and a crack in the cal. converter (broken substrate) 80,011

I bought this GMC Jimmy Sept 4/2000 and it has been nothing but problems!! First thing went was the starter on the first day I bought it. second was the ignition switch, third was oil lines, fourth transmition (3,500.00) fifth ball joints and now who knows. I have spent over $5000.00 in repairs and I have complant to GM and all they can say is that the truck is 5 years old and problems will occure. I have 3 friends that have the Jimmy's and they said they had nothing but problems. Everything accures after you hit the 60000KM of course. No warrenty left!!! I don't think I will ever buy a GMC Jimmy again. They make there products cheap!! Less money for them to spend and more money for us to spend.

I purchased my Jimmy on November 7, 2003 and it has been back to the dealer three times now, every other week. It had 39,041 miles on it when purchased and now has 41,600. Just off the top of my head here are the problems I have had with it. Ball Joints, idler arm, spider gears, bearings, front suspension, left front hub assembly (jimmy was towed then), drivers door, had a front end alignment. This seems excessive to me, how about any of you?

It is a comfortable and nice looking vehicle.

Weakness:

Everything except the body seems to go wrong as soon as the warranty expires.

This is the second Jimmy I have owned and both have fialed me. I bought a 98 to replace my 95 and have had just as many problems with it, if not more, than with the first. A common problem with both is the wipers - they just never worked correctly on either vehicle! The 95 Jimmy cost me a lot in repairs and finally died with a bad fuel injector, blowing the whole engine. Not worth it to me to repair. The 98 has been awful since about 65K. I have had spent a lot of money just to keep it up to par for yearly inspections. I had to replace the entire brake system this summer, and now it needs both upper and lower ball joints, an alignment, ABS repair, inner transmission valve body, left outer CV boot is leaking, and a wiper circuit board replacement. It just isn't worth owning one of these!

1995 and a 1998 Jimmy - I've owned both and both are not worth the money paid for them. GMC should have put a bit more work into making this a better vehicle. It is almost as if they put it together and didn't run any quality control testing on the darn things.

Weakness:

Gas mileage... but hey go the speed limit and its about the same as any other truck/suv. Its when you speed the issue comes up!

We have had our jimmy for almost as long as I can remember. She has been the most reliable and amazing vehicle we have ever owned. We are a GM family, so of course I will say that it is awesome. Its pushing 400,000 and still purrs.

When I hit 75k miles my Jimmy litterally started falling apart. I traded in my Brand New Mustang for the SUV (infant on the way). I have had standard maintenance at all major mileage marks. We have replaced so much! The dealership mechanic said it's basically a brand new SUV. Almost 3,000 in repairs in last 2 months and it's in the shop AGAIN. Bare with me on some of these descriptions as I am a female who knows little about cars. We replaced Ball Joints, Idler Arm, CV Joint, Fuel Pump, Fuel Coil?, Spark Plugs, Misc. hoses, EGR Valve, Catalytic Converter, Brakes, Gas Cap, some filter that relates to fuel? The heat quit for a couple of months and the other day a Mechanic tried a procedure of flushing out and reversing pressure instead of relpacing heater core (that would have been another $775.00) and thank goodness it worked because the NY winters are cold! I was driving at 65 mph on the highway yesterday and the whole vehicle just shut down. Died. Right there on the side of the highway next to a long bridge. This is the second time this has happened. This SUV has been to various mechanics and dealerships for repairs. The performance has not been at all what I expected.
