Strength:
Liked the 4 wheel drive sytem, went well in the snow
Weakness:
Damn thing almost kill my family and GM won't own up to the ABS problems. I had bought a 1994 GMC Jimmy 1996. Was a very nice vehicle. Had to fix the 4.3 Vortex engin when the head gasket blew. Then In Aug. 99 My Wife and kids were in were desecding a steep grade and the Brakes gave out, unable to stop she veered to miss traffic and the Jimmy flipped over. My children were seriously injured. About a week before the accident, the ABS light came on and went out in a few seconds. I looked in the manual and it said to take it for service if the light stays on. After checking , I found that 1992 to 1996 GMC Jimmy's and Chevy Blazers had a problem with the ABS. I filed a complaint with the NHSTA and GMC. After a check of the vehicle was done it nothing was found to be Wrong, the opinoin of the inspector was that the Boiling point of the Brake fulid was too low. I called a GM garage and asked about that, and was told it was bull. Icontinued to get recall notices pertaining to the ABS system and as of Last year I got a recall that GM was recalling and changing the ABS computer. I called GM and said he wait a minute , I told you there was a problem with the ABS before the wreck. GM .told me that" My problem has nothing to do with the recall". and was hung up on. I hate GM / will never buy a GM product |

Uhhhh......hmmmmmm....uhhh....I have less than 2 years to pay off???
Weakness:
Made by GMC and is a GMC product. This has to be the worst vehicle I have ever owned. Replaced my fuel pump ($900)for the "irratic" display problems (vehicle would either not start or would die on the highway). Replaced ignition harness ($400)for...get this..."irratic" display problems (vehicle would either not start or would die on the highway). Catalytic converter went out (its good to 80K/I was lucky)....this will completely screw your vehicle (parts alone run $540). From reading the rest of the posts...and I have these other vehicle symptoms.....my tranny sending unit will go out (getting wonderful slippage here and there)and still ....aw screw it the list goes on..... nothing
Weakness:
all I wish I known before about the Jimmy, I would had kept my money and brought something else. Never again would I buy a GMC. You would think as long as GMC been in business they would know who to build a dependable truck. I thought a truck was suppose to be able to handle the road without something falling off it. I have a 4x4 and I won't even go over the railroad track to fast. this was a waste of my money I say to all kept your money if you're going to buy a Jimmy Similar Products Used: funny |

Typhoon
Strength:
Wicked fast Beautiful looks Attracts much attention at shows and on the street from muscle car and import fans alike Very helpful SyTy community (www.syty.net) Huge aftermarket considering rarity Very comfortable seating and interior
Weakness:
Almost all OEM "Typhoon" parts have been discontinued Underneath, this is still a Jimmy. After one winter at school in Rochester NY, rust appeared underneath the body cladding on the fenders, quarterpanels, and under the rear windows (problem areas). As of recent my A/C has gone out again, and my window motor is just about dead. These problems are all stemmed from the rather cheap and shoddily built Jimmy and Blazer from this year Most dealers and mechanics are clueless about the truck, one was even surprised when he opened the hood and saw a turbocharger Not an overly good daily driver Poor gas mileage (10mpg city 13 hwy) Expensive "Typhoon" parts Weak stock transmission Very contrasting interior - rich, supple leather seating mashed with the standard cheap, grey plastic dashboard of the Jimmy I reviewed my truck the 1993 GMC Typhoon, about a year and a half ago on this site. At the time I had just barely gotten to know the personality of this vehicle, so I felt it would be helpful to more or less "update" my views on the truck after owning it for more than 2 years. In case you aren't in the mood to endlessly scroll down to read the first review, and are not familiar with the Typhoon, here are are some of the specs on it: •Based on S15 Jimmy body •4.3 Liter Turbocharged V6 (14.7psi) •Full Time All-Wheel Drive with Viscous Coupling •Syclone and Typhoon specific body cladding, steering wheel, gauge cluster, upper intake manifold, 16" rims •2" Lower than stock Jimmy •All leather interior (embroidered headrests in 1992 models) •2500 produced in 1992, 2200 in 1993 (mine is #1588) After only about 10 years, the Typhoon has already earned its place in the Collectible Vehicle world. It is a blazingly fast SUV, pushing 285hp and near 400 ft/lbs of torque right from the factory. 0-60 goes by in 4.8 seconds, and the 1/4 mile takes only 14.1. I have absolutely babied my Ty since the day I got it. It had been painted with an aftermarket black metallic purple flake before I bought it, a cheap "shell painting" which shows several spots of poor application. Regardless, I am proud to show the truck whenever possible, and am always greeted with kind comments and "oh, I always wanted one of these!" In addition, the truck is my only vehicle, so it has been my daily driver to and from college (a 340 mile trip each way), as well as everyday driving. Repairs fall almost completely under either the "Jimmy" category or the "unavoidable catastrophy" one. In the 2 years of ownership, I have decided that the GMC Typhoon is an unbelievable ride, and an exceptional vehicle, but is best kept as a weekend driver, and not pushed to become a daily beater. SL Jimmy 4.3litre
Strength:
stylish good looks prove you shouldn't take appearance over substance
Weakness:
Yikes, where do I start? Very poor symbol of GM workmanship and parts. Nothing but problems since this vehicle was purchased just over a year ago at an auction. It had only 67,000 kms but was nothing but trouble. We had an expensive leak with the coolant system. The check engine light was on continually until we had major work done on the oxygen sensors. The hinges are glued on the doors (apparently all chevs do this) which means they wear down and cause mighty expensive damage. The oil seals leak. The torrington bearing in the left front has gone - and the same problem is starting in the right front. The universal joint has gone. The exhaust system already has some rust and a small hole. Vehicle now has 99ooo kms and we have to get rid of it!! Just hope we don't get another lemon... Similar Products Used: first SUV |

SLT
Strength:
Great tow vehicle, tows a 4000 Lb. boat easily. Very nice interior, comfortable to drive. Stable on ice and snow in four wheel drive, safe vehicle for winter driving. Good lights. Cruise holds speed well.
Weakness:
Ball joints are a weak area and vehicle mover around in the wind. Purchased a 1998 Jimmy SLT in 2000 (27,000 Km) mainly because I have to drive through an area noted for bad weather during winter and also for towing a boat in summer. I was advised to have the dealer inspect the ball joints at the last warranty check as they are a known weak area, sure enough they had to be replaced. Had to replace a front wheel bearing at 98,000 Km. This is expensive because the entire hub has to be changed. The hub comes as a sealed unit complete with ABS sensor. Water found its way into the bearind. (I do not do any off road driving) Do my own maintenance and expect to have this vehicle for several more years. 100,000 Km on vehicle now, no engine or transmission problems. |

Looks, power, handling for a SUV.
Weakness:
Have had serp. belt because of noise on both. Ck. eng. light came on, all we had to do was get it out and run at highway speed occasionally, seem to solv the problem. Inside rear hatch liner came off but warrenty covered. My experience so far has been good, I think the deiler and service department is the key and my experience with Wentworth has (so far) been good. Happy with handling and power as well as looks. Tow a small camper and it does very well. The 2000 has a stronger suspention which we like. Similar Products Used: Jeep, Blazer, Ford |

4x4 is great and easy to activate, 4.3 Vortec power, interior space and design, exterior design, luggage rack,
Weakness:
EGR valve sticks, braking distance, gas mileage, minor coolant leak, Purchased as first SUV. Heard good things about the Jimmy''s Vortec 4.3 6 cylinder engine. Had no problems with engine yet. Transmission rebuilt by previous owner. Purchased with 134,000 miles and now has 151,000 miles. No problems yet and we''ve had it for a year. Four-wheel drive is great in off-road mud and in snow! Gas mileage sucks, but is expected due to the great power. Suspension and stability is not great. Wind blows vehicle around on the road. Catalytic converter rattles from the inside; needs to be replaced soon (300-400 bucks). EGR valve sticks occasionally, but corrects itself withing a day. Happens maybe once every 6 months. A/C is awesome. Braking distance is not too great, but to be expected. We''re happy thus far! Similar Products Used: NONE - first SUV |

GMC Jimmy SLS 2 door ZM6
Strength:
Built By GM. Strong engine, reliability.
Weakness:
cross winds will blow you all over the road. fuel economy. Oh, boy! I think you all got lemons! I have had my truck since it was 1.5 years old and 23,000 miles in the clock. It now has 176,000 miles on the clock, the engine pulls like she was new, burns no oil (perhaps the reason is that I change it once a month with Mobil 1). I rebuild the tranny @ 100,000 miles, and this is normal for the 4L60E class of transmissions. The noise is acceptable, as I armor-all every part of the plastic interior. I really have no complaints. the EGR problem is solved with a computer re-program @ the Dealership or looking online @ S-Seriesforum.com for EGR plates. Other than that, I think that preventative maintenance has kept me out of trouble for the most part. Similar Products Used: GMC Suburban, Ford Bronco II (horrible), Chevy K5 Blazer. |
