Strength:

Excellent seats, paint and decent fuel economy. Good sound system and I do like ONSTAR.

Weakness:

Horrible throttle control. The transmission is being destroyed because of poor engine fuel management. Even a slight incline will cause one or two downshifts because nothing happens when you push on the throttle. If you are in AWD and you backup around a corner the rear axle hops. The doors don't always unlock when you put it in PARK. The air conditioning cannot defrost the windows in cold weather.

This vehicle has been to two different dealers 4 times to fix an engine surging problem (it is still surging), replace BOTH front seat heaters, the stearing column air bag sensor (twice), the elctronic throttle positioner and a rattle in the front passenger door that still rattles. After turning the key to START, it may take 2-3 seconds before the starter actually works. 5k miles on it.

Strength:

Suspension as good as Buick La Sabre. Good view of road; front, sides and back Really liked the driver # memory system. Appreciated first year free OnStar which may have saved our lives on long drive across country when transmission failed.

Weakness:

Transmission cooling problems with regular driving in two wheel drive.

Beautiful Quiet Drive, wonderful suspension. However, non reliable transmission after 4000 miles! Several GMC dealers across the country (MI, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona) had trouble verifing problems we were having with the car after replacing 'lost transmission fluid on cross country drive'(Michigan). Car only used in two wheel drive, did not tow anything. Still having ocassional problems and have not tried towing. Am afraid to take it on long trips and will not be able to tow planned rv trailer. Am unable to sell at reasonable price, and not getting satisfaction from GMC. Each month trade in value decreases and it sits in garage!

Strength:

5.3 Liter V8! Warrantee is 2.5 times longer than GMC/Chevy/Oldsmobile Customer service is great Price is such a bargain

Weakness:

not many colors to choose from (5 different ones in either 2 tone or solid)

Before You BUY AN ENVOY READ: Isuzu Is making the same truck with more standard equitment at a lower price and a longer warrantee.? I want to encourage ALL envoy/trail blazer buyers to go for Isuzu. With the Ascender, you get a longer warrantee, better service quality, and all the goodies that the top of the line Envoy has, at the starting price of a trailblazer! Isuzu has taken a great GM product and made it even better and easier to live with. I have a black, 2003 Ascender V8 4x4. I've had the vehicle for 3 1/2 weeks and LOVE IT! It is built so so tight, feels strong, and the V8 not only sounds great, but moves the Ascender with love. I've been averaging 17.2 mpg since I bought it. Not bad at all for a full size SUV with a V8 and 4 wheel drive. Isuzu isn't very well-known which keeps them very nice with their customers, and easy to bargain with.

Power, Handling, Looks (love the chrome accents) , Space (holds a 76 key synthesizer in the back seat no problems)

Weakness:

Gas Mileage, Fit and trim of plastic peices.

I love the feel of this truck as soon as I grabbed the wheel. Its nimble around town and solid on the highway. I purchased this truck about 3 days before the big snow hit, and she wasn't even phased in over 10 inches of the powdery stuff. She hooked up solid as a rock in 4WD High and had comfortable control in AWD during the next couple of days in the ice. Great all around truck! Of course with the addition of XM radio, 20 inch crome wheels, in Dash DVD and a 500 watt speaker system you can't go wrong!

Strength:

Top end power Brakes ride/handling many toys BOSE Factory Michelins

Weakness:

GAS I can't break 14 mpg in the city 15.5 mpg on the highway. Low-end power Gas tank from a Civic (I'm on E at 210 miles) Body clunks over bumps in corners

This is by far the best riding/ performing truck I have been in. I have not seen any of the horror stories listed here, but I have had a couple of things to correct. My rear window came unglued and the rear view mirrors never returned to the right setting, they needed new control assemblies. There are a lot of gadgets to play with. I would certainly recommend the Bose stereo, it is unparalled in quality/imaging. The engine has alot of power, but the powerband should be lower in the RPM range. Handling is very precise with minimal roll ( for a truck). The brakes are amazing, they pull this truck down with a great deal of confidence. I find that I often wind up driving it like my Vette, and the truck can take it. It has a few quirks that come with all vehicles. The forward cupholder is great for gum or change only. I need more headroom (I'm 6'4"). A telescoping wheel would be nice. GAS, man this thing is thirsty (SLT 4X4)! My Tahoe got better mileage. Overall I would recommend this truck. It is a great vehicle for those who need a truck but still want performance and value.

Weakness:

Typical shortcuts in an American vehicle. My first GM and probably my last.

Slightly Disappointed. After 3 months and 3,000 miles, the back hatch doesn't open all the way because the plastic pivot piece popped out. The back window subsequently has a 1 inch play side to side and won't close. The trim above the front grill is held by little clips, that literally on the second day, popped loose. If this is GM's answer to some of the other SUV's out there, they need to do a better job on the engineering. My 97 Grand Cherokee was a far superior truck with better workmanship. And are they kidding about the side view mirrors?? Power mirrors, or even manual internal controls should be standard on any vehicle over $15,000, never mind $ 30,000.

Strength:

Incredible Looks Love the Polished aluminum wheels. Great power band and HP, I like the Aluminum pistons and Block, nice options, beautiful ride any terrain, snow, rain, sand. I have 20000 mi in less then a year.

Weakness:

little tipsy, and the belt slips when I rip into second.... need better meatier tires. I did reck the shifter linkage screwing with my buddy in his 2000 Roush Mustang, honestly I dont know what i did wrong I must have slamed it down into 1st to hard. Amazingly there was another problem. The back glass hatch is connected with mostly adhesive which broke loose and had to be replaced. The truck has had minor problems but it is still a beautiful piece of machinery.

From the reviews about the starting issue, now to be honest, I have had starting issues myself, however knowing that little bit of knowledge of cars I thought about the 3 power sockets on the dash and the fuzz buster that was on all night causing a parisitic load, not to mension the cold crank amps drawn from the now dead battery. And for you Loosers (Capital L) with the CD player problems, Shooda got the BOSE.....

Dependablity, Dealer service, High end radio doesn't work(it is related to above difficulties).By the way Onstar is worthless w/ the above power failure. Lucky I have a cellphone in addition to my Onstar minutes.

Runs good, drives great, but doesn't start. As I needed use of vehicle used jumper cables about every two weeks. Finally drove to dealer at three months 3K miles but diag's found no trouble. Week later same thing so called tow truck have had 3 tow's in last three weeks but dealer can not find problem. Dealer has replaced batttery, Power Control Module. It is there now. It is a dead short condition but fortunetly does not occur while drving. I also am perturbed w/ the fleet cars they provide while it is in the shop, I don't think an escort is a fair substitution. I have requested a new vehicle if not I will start arbitration w/ NYS AG.
