Strength:
Power- even with the 6 outperforms competitor's 8's. Third row room - you wont find more in a midsize suv. Options - disgustingly spoiled It's not a minivan! - although the rear doors open wide enough to make you think you were getting into one. Styling - Take a hent Ford. 2003's are still one the lot - dealers want them off, you want payoff for your trade - and on top of it all GM has ENORMOUS rebates. You can deal. Also, if your beacon score is high enough you may get to keep the rebate and still get a low,low rate through GMAC. You can't go wrong. I know, I sound like a salesman, huh? Just a satisfied customer.
Weakness:
Plastic Interior trim on SLE is almost as cheap looking as ford's - go with the fake wood. I should know by now that the only people who write reviews on their vehicles are the one's who have had problems with them. I guess that is why I am putting my two cents in. Not because I have or expect any problems, but I think those of us who are still in love with the vehicle should also be represented. First of all, there is no magical line of vehicles that doesn't have it's share of lemons. And it is unfortunate when you are the unlucky recipient of one of those "Friday Afternoons". Believe me, I had first hand experience with a 2001 Grand Caravan (just thought I'd throw that in there for the minivan lovers). There are a few out there that loose less value as time progresses. (Toyota Sienna, Honda Pilot), but you will loose in the beginning because these vehicles are so hard to keep on the lot that you will definetely pay sticker and get the bare mins for your trade. I have experienced the Explorer. I took it for a three day test drive under the pressure of the salesman and after the 15 mile drive home, my wife asked if I would take it back. Underpowered-They say it has a 7300lb towing cap. (if all the planets are aligned maybe). The back seat feels like sitting in a pack-and-play. No, with the standard see through screen you can see more from the pack-and-play. As far as interior styling on the Envoy, I will say the SLT is the way to go to get away from the cheap looking fixtures. However with the Explorer you have to just run the other direction to get away from it. I know that with all the bells and whistles mine has that there is a good chance something electrical will go wrong. That's why I suggest getting the Major Guard from GM for the length of the loan. I know you shouldn't have to put more money into a good vehicle, but That's what I thought when I bought the GC along with its 5 yr 75000mi ext warr which proved to be worthless(just because the dealer sold it to you doesn't mean it is sponsored by the manufacturer). As far as the memory seats, they are great if you know how to use them and you know which button is yours. oh yeah and gas mileage? GC got me a whopping 24-25 on the highway and considerably less in town. I'll give up a few if it means I don't have to replace my tranny again at 38000. (I guess that warranty was worth a little something). All in all I think I got a great deal on a great vehicle and I got my kids out of the death trap with out tacking it on somehow.(GC lost over 60% of its value in first 2 years). There was a little more room in the GC - If you lugged the 50lb seats into the garage before you left the driveway. But who cares, If you want more room, buy a Suburban. I have two kids in carseats and believe it or not, they both fit on the left and still allow the right seat to flip and open up the back seats. I had captains chairs in the GC and could not get in the back that easy with seats installed. If you need the bed room of a truck, go have a heavy duty trailer built, the Envoy's 6 is consideraby more powerful than Explorer,(275hp/275lbft) and the 8 is grossly overpowered,(290and3??) it will tow it- save yourself another payment. Hey, if I had an endless flow of cash, I might buy something else, or just pay someone to drive me around. Similar Products Used: Looked at Ford Explorer, Expedition, Honda Pilot, Chevy Trailblazer EXT, Chevy Suburban, Tahoe, Suzuki XL7, Dodge Durango, and all minivans. Pretty much anything that had a 3rd row seat. |

Weakness:
A/C takes too long to cool. I never use the A/C in the Auto mode, it has not clue how to keep it at a correct temp. Memory seats and mirrors can't remember a darn thing. Cheap paint. Brakes fade, scaring the living $*%&) out of me at times. Fog light beam bounce up and down, oh and you have to hit the button to turn them on every time. That goes along with the A/C recirculate switch. Stalls about every morning after driving about a mile at the same light. Dealer tells me there must be radio waves interfearing with the computer. Too many recalls. Clicking noise in dash area. It took 8 trips to dealer that finally figured out that the heat/cool mode doors were sticking. I dare not use the pull strap for the rear hatch, it breaks too often. Ignition switch replaced after I was able to start the car without a key. Replaced the $140 each tires at 28,000 miles. Dealer told me I never rotated or aligned the vehicle. I pulled out the invoices showing them they had done it for me a number of times. Once in a while a very loud noise when you first start and drive vehicle, sound like an extra high velocity fan was turned on in the engine area. Dear does not know how to correct What a piece of JUNK. It has been in for problems more than I've changed my underwear and they can never get it fixed. The first day I bought it I loved it, the next day I asked if I could turn it back in for a Lexus, the answer was NO. After that it was downhill and what a long hill it has been. I have stayed away from American cars for years and thought that maybe, finally they are getting something right - WRONG they still have not clue. Payed too much for a vehicle that feels like it will not last another year. I could go on and on about this vehicle and how I HATE it. And one other thing it has no resale value at all. Similar Products Used: 2002 Explorer and 2003 Expedition, prefer them both to the Envoy. I feel for all of your out there that own an Envoy. I wish we could all get together and file a lawsuit or something to help us out. |

Strength:
Very fast (for a fat, wasteful vehicle that serves no practical purpose at all). Will hold its own with small subcompacts costing a third as much. Hides the fact that it is basically a work truck (ALL big SUV's are) by having an almost car-like ride, great braking and steering, and a very nice interior.
Weakness:
Who needs these things? Mini-vans are infinitely more practical, cars are much faster and much more economical. If I want to tow a boat or haul something, that is why God created trucks. I don't really care for SUV's (snobby useless vehicles), but my wife insists on driving one of these trucks with a roof and a rear seat grafted on because all her friends do. As always, I was dragged along to help test and evaluate the dozen or so possible choices before she selected the Envoy. After driving the Nissan Murano, which will be no end of trouble because of its potentially trouble-prone CVT transmission, the grossly over-priced Toyota Highlander, which is so sluggish and slow it shouldn't be allowed on a freeway, and several other rough-riding, slow, and quirky-handling gas guzzlers, we drove the Envoy. For a glorified truck, it is quite impressive. The ride is almost as smooth as many cars, the steering and braking are excellent, and the new 275 horse in-line 6 gives the two-ton monster almost as much go as a Dodge Neon or Ford Focus (of course while costing three times as much and drinking twice the gas). As an SUV-hater, it is the only one from any manufacturer, foreign or domestic that remotely inmpressed me. If I ever become so insane that I decide to spend $30,000 for something that can barely beat out a Hyundai Excel at stoplights and keeps the oil companies chuckling at my gullibility all the way to the bank, then this would be my choice. Similar Products Used: None. I personally wouldn't be caught dead in one of these gas-guzzling ego-mobiles. I'm embarrased that my wife doesn't have the moral fortitude to tell her snobby friends to go #$&+ themselves and d |

Very attractive vehicle, nice ride, heated seats, nice sound system. Even with all the problems I'm still in love with vehicle, but it has got to go. See Weaknesses
Weakness:
Towed 6 differnet times. 5 times because the a fuse that controlled the igition kept blowing, once becasue the battery blew. The A/C went out, the 4-wheel drive went out, the driver seat motor went out, the stereo went out, the odometer motor went out, too many recalls to count...except the last one is worth mentioning...engine problems...envoy may experience cracking of an engine cylinder bore liner, peeling paint, stero went out, transmission shift lock problems, pressur switch replaced, windows resealed as there was a terrible whistling when cruising the highway, sunroof went out, luggage rack has been replaced... How depressing this buy has turned out to be. After almost two years of car shopping I finally found the one I was willing to put the money out for. I figured that this vehicle would take me into my 60's. HA! Every time I get in it I worry about it starting. I had this vehicle towed 5 times and in the shop more since I purchased it then I ever was with my 1986 Ford Thunderbird. Anybody want to buy a GMC Envoy? I told the dealer that they need to get me into another vehicle they have promised to work with...we'll see. I told them I would just trade it in except my concious get's the better of me...why would I pass the headache on to another Jane Doe. |

Suspension Body Panel Fit Air-conditioning Design of Interior Can't wait to get rid of this vehicle. Suspension sounds like someone forgot to put all the rubber bushings in. Dealer replaced front shocks at 28,000 mi and said everything else was fine. Going over bumps sounds like metal hitting bare metal. Rear door rattles in frame so much passengers often grab it because they think it is coming open. Dealer says it is ok. AC works sporadically. One dealer said that GM was aware of problem and interim fix is to shut engine off and restart and computer will reset and system will work. This seems to work sometimes but is embarrassing with clients aboard. Another dealer said AC has no problems and perhaps it is "operator error" Funny that I've never had a problem operating AC in any other car I have ever owned. When operating, AC is marginal at best when temperature is 90 degrees or more. Interior is perhaps the worst designed I have seen. Front cupholder is a joke; and where do the designers suggest we put our loose change for parking meters and drive thrus ???, Have those designers thought about cell phones and where we might possibly put them??. The rear seat in my 97 Blazer folded flat for a level storage area when the rear seats were folded down. Not only do you have to pull the rear seat cushions forward on the Envoy and have an angled floor storage area but the front seats have to be pulled forward which is inconvenient for any large person, (driver or passenger). I guess I,m fortunate that I have not had the electro-mechanical problems that other contributors to this site have had but hearing about them gives me further impetus to dump this piece of junk and get the Acura MDX that I was looking at when I bought the Envoy. Big mistake on my part. Similar Products Used: Chevy Blazer Ford Explorer |

Reliability. Dealer has replaced thousands of parts under warranty. But warranty is now over and I have another year on the lease. Of the cars I have owned in the last 15 years, this one has had the msot problems, saved only by a very accommodating service department. If you buy this car, fork over the cash for the extended warranty -- you'll need it. A very well appointed, responsive, and generally well designed vehicle with very poor reliability. After 42,000 miles, the dealer (which ini this case has a superb service department) has replaced the entire wiper assembly (stuttered), both exterior mirrors (faulty logic circuit keeps them from returning to proper position for selected driver), oxygen sensor (failed), and right running board (fell off!). Short in rear stop light caused RF energy genrated somewhere in car to interfere with radio (somehow). Sunroof did not return to closed position causing huge leak (found this out in a car wash). Amazingly, I would probably get another one -- with an extended warranty, because it grows on you. Similar Products Used: Honda C-RV, dodge Durango |

Great sterio has everthing you could want and tow package comes in handy. Nice ride along the highway especaily on road trips. The convience of instruments and daytme/nighttime changing is a luxury far ahead of the others. spacious headroom and leg room for those in the back
Weakness:
Low beam lights, sodium vapor ,cost 1000 dollars to replace(who was thinking there) Some missing from time 2 time, must put higher octane ($2.12 a gallon?) not much leg room for tall people behind the wheel little gimics that cost to much to fix Bought this car used at 44k miles. Has Bose sterio w/changer and air ride system that can be appreciated when getting out of bumpier vehicles. Tow package was usefull, and cigarette lighter outlets everywhere makes it nice for kids and camping. 4 wheel drive has been great except for tunring in 4low at slower speeds. Weakness:
Not enjoyable to drive. Terrible noise of wind turbulence hits windows as if in crosswind. Too much up and down motion of coil springs - especially free movement of rear ones. Aggravating bob up and down of headlight beams as I drive across each wave in road. At 70 mphr on I-40 there is a wind noise (OUTSIDE) that sounds and feels like I am following behind an 18 wheeler at a distance where the air is slapping the front of the car causing a feel like crosswind driving, and is slapping turbulent air on the windshield and front side windows - This is in a dead calm day with no auto in front of me. I think this is related to the wrong coil spring rate and poor quality shocks (suspension) and the front end design of the vehicle causing windshield noise at normal driving speed. It is brand new and it is for sale. I have never driven a vehicle that I detest so much. New or old, cheap or expensive. The fuel mileage has yet to reach 20 mpg. I have 1900 miles on it. Please heed my warning - you won't like this car if yours was like mine. The plastic wheel well liners and so inferior that they are detestable. Buy a Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander (more money - more car). Similar Products Used: 93 4wd and 2000 2wd Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 95 4wd Chev Trk, 95 Chev Suburban. |

1. Bad customer service 2. manipulative dealers 3. car not worth of money 4. not a reliable car 5. a short term vehicle with lot of money to spend on I owned the car for last five years and not at all satisfied with several things: 1. Car started rattling at 12,000 miles, dealer stated that is normal wear and tear and would not do any thing. 2. Inspite of the extended warranty, had to pay several thousand of dollars on fixing so many problems. 3. Almost 10 visit for the recalled door problem and right now the same problem is going on but dealer for some reason is saying this is different problem then that and GMC customer relation people are not even paying any attention to customer. 4.Almost every major part has been changed with in these five year. 5.GMC customer relation people are saying that with 96,000, what do we expect (no japaniese car dealer would these words even after 120,000 miles on their cars) 6. Would never suggest any of my friends to buy GMC cars 7. GMC has very poor customer service too. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord - owned for 6 years no problem at all. |

Smooth ride, great exceleration, great sound system (Bose) Great looks. Love the heated seats (79 previous reviews and nobody else has mentioned this great feature)
Weakness:
4 wheel drive system doesn't work and service/design support is non-existent from GM. Gas mileage really sucks (especially on cold Canadian days)- was told it would be better mileage than my 99 Sonoma 4x4 - not true! Most expensive stereo I've ever driven! Loved this vehicle for 11 months. Now I want to meet with the Engineers/Designers to ask if they know what they are doing. I Have been in to the shop 7 times in 7 months to have 4 wheel drive fixed. "Detroit can seem to figure it out" Dealer (on instruction from some yahoos in Detroit) has just about replaced every part/computer/reset there is, and yet again they have left me hanging... 'they will research it out and call us back' -- Dealer is not denying problem, they can hear it as plainly as I can, nobody seems to know how to fix it! Makes a ticka-ticka noise, that get more high pitched the longer it is in 4 wheel drive, eventually shuts off/shorts out the 4 wheel drive. Anyone else having this problem? Until this problem, I loved this vehicle, except that I have to SLAM the back doors to get them to close (am tired of 'Rear Passenger Door Ajar' message). Paid far too much ($46,000 Cdn)to have these kind of problems, that apparently are designed not to be fixed. This is my 2nd 4 wheel drive vehicle because I live on the Prairies of Canada and have snow 7 months of the year - I need reliable 4 wheel drive - I did not get it.
