Strength:

Smooth and quiet ride, handles very nice, nice Bose sound system.

Weakness:

I've only had to have the battery replaced under warranty and one recall on the console latch. Other than that, the dealer told me that if my headlights burn out they are $1,500.00 each to replace as they are a solid unit, not a bulb. The newer Envoy's have bulbs.

I purchased my Envoy new in 1999, (leftover at the dealer from 98, they said the price was too high to sell, stickered at 35,450.00). I have to say this is definately the best vehicle I've owned. The ride is smooth. In fact I took someone for a ride in it and she said it rode better than her Jag! And she was in the back seat! It handels extremely well on the highway, very stable and takes curves very well, unlike the Blazer I used to own. A very quiet smooth ride and great in the snow. The interior is very nice and the heated front seats are nice on cold days. The back seat headphone jacks (2) are great for the teens as they can listen to their own radio stations, cassette or cd while I listen to what I want at the same time.
My overall impression for this SUV is 5 stars plus in all areas! I would definately recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

very sharp looking top of the line vehicle...... excellent on gas, very smooth ride, excellent in the snow

Weakness:

my front end has a severe clunking noise when making turns going forward, or going in reverse.

Hi, as I have already introduced myself, I am a very proud owner of my 1998 GMC Envoy. I feel like i am driving around in my living room...... however, the last couple of months i am having a problem with my front end..... i am experiencing this awful clunking noise when i am making turns, whether it be driving forward or backward. what should i do? i have 75,000 mile...... bumper to bumper warranty. i just turned 36,000 on my odometer, and i don't think this should be happening, do you? this is my favorite vehicle i have owned, however my trade in was a mint condition 1994 Ford Explorer XLT with power everything. also, the dealership took the onstar system out before i bought it. according to my knowledge, that comes standard in the Envoy's. tell me what you think about what i just explained to you, and what can you do for me? please write an email response to me. lastly, i love my Envoy, however i don't think i got what i paid for and i got less than what i should have really paid for........ you see, i traded in my Explorer after i saw the comercial for the Envoy...... i thought it was the best looking SUV i had seen in a long time, and i just had to have one, and let me tell you, they are very hard to find where i live, and it took me a while, but i found one......... so, please help me.
sincerely, Barbara A. Cutler

Strength:

The best SUV I've driven. The engine is as smooth as the on the base BMW X-5's but more responsive...without the extra $10k. The interior is perfect and handling is good.

Weakness:

No complaints yet, but the base CD/cassette stereo on the SLT isn't the best.

I previously owned a 4-Runner and test drove everything from the BMW X-5 and Mercedes 320 to a new 4-Runner. This ranks up there with the base X-5 in my opinion and is a better value.

Strength:

Great tried and true V6 engine. Really enjoy the HID (High Intensity) Headlamps. Awesome on a 2 lane road at night time. Great Bose stereo, leather seats, heaters. Have had to use the tire inflator a few times, works awesome.

Weakness:

A few squeeks and rattles, but the dealership fixed those problems under warranty. A little over-priced - even with my GM Discount.

Looking forward to the new 2002 Envoy. As soon as my lease is up next year, I will definately be ordering my new Envoy. Many new features in the new SUV including larger size and bigger/better engine. I will miss the HID headlamps though, as they are not available in the new one's.

Strength:

A solid mid-sized SUV. Good entry/exit. Seats are firm, needs a TAD more
thigh support, but good. Quality in cabin is well above average, into
excellent. Dash layout very good, guages are great, finish is very good.
Silent when riding. Power is exceptional. Handles very well (someone said
'needs 16s - they haven't seen the vehicle, comes with 17" standard tires
and sway bars' - some people just want to bash) and brakes quickly.
Storage is spacious. Full sized spare.

Weakness:

Don't like the appearance of the back end or the round backup lights.
The two warts on the interior roof over the front seat. Order
the sun roof and one disappears.

Car is 'almost' everything it was designed to be. From the ground up
this is a new SUV. Wide stance, unibody design, power train and brake
function, interior and exterior quality, all add up to a first class
vehicle for a reasonable price.
The engine is a jewel. I could not believe the overall sensation of
power, very nice (better than the Explorer 2002) and smooth, quiet.
Quality in build, interior/exterior. Nice cab layout. Good seats.
Silent and smooth.

Similar Products Used:

Trailblazer, very similar. Acura MDX, Envoy less costly, faster, larger
inside. Maybe a bit less refined. 2002 Explorer, similar in size and
quality, but the Envoy engine and drive train take the prize.

Strength:

This vehicle has the most creature features I have ever seen on a domestic vehicle. The new powerplant is amazing, quiet and fast. Built on a full steel truck frame. Big bang for the buck!

Weakness:

Just have the car one day so I will have to fill in later but as of now none.

This vehicle has what it takes. GM has put some thought into this one. The interior is pleasing and the performance is there. Looking forward to many miles. I will update as time goes on!

I also drove the Acura, MDX and the Lexus RX 300 and IMHO this vehicle met all my needs. My wife drives a Lexus LX 470 and its hard to compete with that.

Strength:

Heated seats and some of the luxury features

Weakness:

Where do I start!! Very unrefined, build quality is horrible, choice of
materials is terrible. Handles very poorly, needs some sway bars. Wheels/
tires too small - needs 16inchers. Engine "stumbles" all the time etc etc

I would not recommend this GMC Envoy to anyone. Everything rattles and
squeeks. GMC definately needs to do a lot of work on this vehicle. Dealer
service is so-so and the factory support (tech-center) is a joke. I will
NEVER buy another GM vehicle (my Chrysler 300M is incredible!! and the
new Jeep Grand Cherokee and Acura MDX are MUCH better choices)

Strength:

Zillions of useful and fun features; solid, comfortable ride; sharp appearance inside & out; standard 17" Michelins, standard towing equipment. Very nice quality leather, standard dual-zone AC.

Weakness:

Potentially, there could be the made-in-America hex. There are a couple of tiny appearance flaws, and one rattle that I fixed (the Lexus had rattles too), but nothing to dampen my enthusiasm for the car. Base stereo isn't great.

The first weekend I had this vehicle, I drove 150 miles to the coast, used it to put a 24-foot boat in the water, pulled the boat out of the water, and towed it 30 miles after that. The car behaved flawlessly, both in the towing category and in highway & city driving. It's a tremendous amount of vehicle for the money. I just came out of driving a Lexus RX300 and find the Envoy to be many times the car AND SUV that the Lexus is for a lot less money. Solid, quiet, comfortable; full of neat, thoughtful features, all mostly standard equipment at the SLT level. Great vehicle for anyone wanting an extremely comfortable, competent vehicle that can flex its muscle AND pamper you, all at the same time! I am proud to have the Envoy.
