Weakness:
performance Consumer report did not give this car a very good rating and noted the mediocre braking system. I test drove this car and put the brakes to a pretty good test by slamming on them after hitting speeds of 35-45 mph. Needless to say Consumer Report was right and the car could not even stop on a quarter. If you don't care about brakes you should get this car. |

Strength:
Great ride. Easy driving.
Weakness:
That cargo window needs to be secured better to the hinge, obviously. Move the control buttons on the driver's door because I'm always hitting them and resetting everything. Larger gas tank Great ride. Great looks. Bought in Sept 2001, over 13,000 miles now. Absolutely no problems what so ever UNTIL last week when the cargo window came unglued. Yes, unglued of all things. That window is NOT bolted to the hinge folks, it is glued. You pay $33,000 only to find that driving down the highway it could fly into someone else's window and kill them. Can you believe that? Glued. So they have ordered a new window which should be here tomorrow. Now we'll see how they attach it to the hinge this time. Well, there was one other problem 2 weeks ago, the cargo strap broke, which is pale in comparison to the window coming off the hinge. Up to this point though, I have been completely satisfied with the Envoy. I trust this has been re engineered and that my cargo window is re hinged better. We'll see. |

Strength:
Smooth ride, quiet, good handling, lots of power.
Weakness:
18 gallon gas tank, should be 23-25 gallons. I have now driven this vehicle since October with 15K miles. I have had NO problems at all. I don't know what people are talking about on this site but I have had none of these issues. There are NO perfect vehicles and each has its own problems and faults. The GMC Envoy is worth every penny and worth the SUV of the year award. I would hope that the reader of this site consider the sources of this site and that there could be jealous sales people putting the wrong info about this product here. Again, its a great ride, very smooth, quiet with nice handling. I drive 60miles a day to and from work using both country road and highway and I have had none of the problems you see hear. My friend next door bought one to this past January and has had NO problems. |

Also rear windshield wiper blade lost the "cap" to the screw that holds it in? Where did that go? Its now a lovehate with this car. I AM IN ENVOY HELL! I have owned this car for less than 3 weeks and have already had many problems. The first week was an amazing week of headturning, comfortable driving and rexlation on the thoughts we had purchased a great vehicle. Week 2 provided us with a lousy turn over when we tried to start the car. We figured it was just "new car kinks". A few days into week 2, when we would pull out of our garage, push the gas down...and NOTHING? we would crawl at 5-10mph, then it would just jump in and start to drive normally. This happened about 6 times during week 2. Again, "new car kinks". Last weekend we noticed a louder noise than normal when driving, that would go and come, not a constant sound. Early into week 3 we saw billowing smoke out of the tailpipe. All guages were normal. We didnt drive it much the remainder of the week until this past weekend 6/15/02 when the smoke came back, the jumping when it started returned and now it sounded as if it was in permanent overdrive...so loud that you couldnt hear the stereo on. Needless to say we pulled over, went home and looked under the hood. All guages were to the right, all in the red zone. NO ANTIFREEZE? its brand new? Where the hell is the Antifreeze? We checked for any leakage where we park, nothing...all caps were on tight. We WALKED to the Trak Auto, purchased the Dex-cool and filled it up. This morning as we got ready to go to work with our fingers crossed, same problem. We decided then to take it to the dealership. There was absolutely no power in the car as we prayed it would make it to the dealer. Our experience there was quick and brief as they told us it might take up to 4 days to get the car back to us. Then then tried to stick us in a FORD FOCUS? Now, if we bought and SUV, it was for a reason...not to be stuck in some compact car. We refused and got a midsize car. I will wait to hear today as to what it might be, however....after reading all of the posts I see that more than one person is just as aggravated. We paid to much for this car to have problems when the first payment hasnt been made. I mentioned a buy back to the sales guy that sold us the car, and as much as he convinced us that it would be an option if the problem seemed extensive...reading the posts proves otherwise. I won't stand for this type of treatment. I should have bought a non-american car. Similar Products Used: none |

GMC Envoy
Strength:
The vehicle gets excellent milage for a larger SUV. It looks terrific if kept in good condition. The interior is comfortable and the driving and handling is a dream.
Weakness:
I no longer have faith in my current vehicle! This particular vehicle has problems that have put my life at risk, literally. And from reading other reviews, it seems that this is not an isolated event. I want nothing more than what I wanted when I first got the vehicle only five months and 7900 miles earlier; to be in a SAFE and luxurious vehicle. BUYERS BEWARE!!! The GMC Envoy has the potential to cause serious electrical/mechanical nightmares! The problem is that the engine loses all function without notice. When the problem occurs, the Service Brakes Soon, ABS, and Service Engine Soon lights come on and the vehicle will lose all ability to be controlled, as power to the engine, power steering, and brakes are lost and the engine cannot be restarted. As a result, it is very difficult to 'coax' the dead 5,500 pound brick to a safe area. I know because this has happened to me FIVE times, three of the occurrances on very dangerous divided highways or intersections. Similar Products Used: Ford Probe, GMC Jimmy |

Head turner, I think it is the best looking SUV next to the Escalade. Very strong engine, more then enough power I am getting 19.2 mpg due to my "old man like"(my hot rod days are over) driving skills. And again, IT LOOKS DARN GOOD.
Weakness:
read above. All I want is for GMAC to get me out of this vehicle. Please stand behind your name and help us!!! We will see if GMAC cares??? Delivered with scratches, got a new paint job. Things were missing on delivery(cargo mat, air nozzles for compressor), took 1 month to get them after finally going in and demanding them. Which they took out of an Envoy on the lot. Door seals keep falling off. Rear doors are hard to close. Must slam hard. Drivers window would not go all the way back up at speeds over 65 mph. Finally after 4 months they fixed it. Took the kids to Disney and AC decided not to work on trip there. Was going to put in shop next day, but mysteriously started working again. We sweated our butts off in the Florida heat for the 5 hour drive. Has needed 3 front end alignments within 10,000 miles. I am a good driver folks, no curb hopping for me. Engine knock noticed day after delivery. Finally new engine was replaced at 12,000 miles. I actually got charged $22.50 at one of the dealers for diagnosis of knocking?? Rear end of vehicle squats after sitting for extended period. Has been in the shop 7 times, for about 7 weeks worth of shop time for load leveling suspension ALONE. Air compressor in back has been replaced 3 times, for a total of 4 new compressors. Vehicle sits slanted with at least a 3 inch difference at all times. Sometimes up to 5 inches. This is very noticable when driving to due to center of gravity being off. GMAC wants to fix it again, NOT IN TEXAS!!!! While on trip to San Antonio a engine coolant connector broke and spewed out antifreeze directly onto exhaust. Immediattely had to pull over. 2 months later we still smell residual antifreeze burning off the exhaust. Or maybe its still leaking??? They cant fix that either. Bose Stereo did not work when I picked it up from the GMAC shop while it was in for other repairs. Noticed right when I pulled out of dealer, swung it back into the shop. Took them 1.5-2 hrs hrs to find another NEW Envoy right off the lot, and switched it out. They cracked my center console while taking out the radio so I got a new console from the same Envoy pulled of the lot. I feel bad for the next guy. My wife and I were leaving to Padre Island that night for our first romantic get a way in 2 years away from the kids. Needless to say the first night was ruined thanks to my Envoy. My wife and I worked hard and saved 3 yrs to buy our first new car. We thought we were getting professional grade like they claim on thier ads. Strength:
Cool looks inside and out.
Weakness:
Built like a lego toy. Recalled for sway bars. Recalled for transmission control. Recalled for console latch. Short in "rain sensing" wiper motor wiring. (This was fun on sunny days) Curb assist mirrors that aim at the sky now and move while driving. Seat memory that always forgets. Dealers that have no idea how to fix the problems. This car sucks and is not worth the trouble. If you want to buy mine, contact me. Similar Products Used: Broken glass. Broken toys. Just about anything that disappoints. |

Smooth ride and feel safe in vehicle. Sharpe styling.
Weakness:
The gas tank is obviously too small. Definately a design flaw. Rear view miirror is inadequate and there are a couple of blind spots. So far it has a great vehicle but I have also had electronic breakdown on the truck with 900 miles on it. The radio and the onstar system stopped working and the next day the battey went dead. I had to have it towed back to the dealer. They fixed the problem but now the truck has been recalled. Whats next? |

Start up Problems With only 6021 miles on my brand new 2002 Envoy, I have experienced total electrical/mechanical breakdown twice in the past 29days. The exact same problem both times. That is, I shut the vehicle off and when I try to start it several minutes later, , there is no power to the starter, everything else works. I am the second person I know to have ex perienced this with the 2002m EDnvoy and I only know two people that own them. WHATS UP GMC????????????????????? |
