Strength:

Cheap

Weakness:

narrow, cramped, noisy, rough ride, loud and clunky engine

What a piece of garbage! It was bought for my mother, who insisted on it. She really regrets buying it now. VERY narrow in the hip and knee. Incredibly uncomfortable for a tall or large person. Bumpy and noisy. Engine sounds like a garbage disposal. The doors stick. Rides rough as heck.

Strength:

Weakness:

Gas mileage (not much better than my full-sized Chevy Tahoe) Stability when towing

I have owned 3 Ford products in addition to this '94 Explorer. My overall experience with a 1980 F-350, '89 Taurus GL and '96 Taurus GL, has been overwelmingly positive. The truck had 250,000 miles on it when I sold in 1995. The '89 Taurus Wagon had 180,000 miles on it, without a day in the shop for mechanical repairs. A friend with an '89 Toyota Camery couldn't say the same. Presently our '96 Taurus has 105,000 miles and has never seen the inside of a shop, even for a tune-up. Gas mileage is still in the high 20's and low 30's highway and mid 20's around town. Which brings me to the '94 Explorer. My wife works at a construction site where damage has continually occured to our Chevy Tahoe ($1,000 worth this past summer. Since I use the Tahoe for pulling my sailboat to Lake Mead, Yellowstone, etc...and the Taurus is too low to get into her construction site parking, I decided to purchase the Explorer with it's front bumper bent inward, large dent in driver side door, broken headlight assembly and trashed out interior. After driving the Explorer to Idaho Falls and Pocatello, Idaho, I have discovered a very willing, comfortable and as expected, reliable drivetrain. I can detect no oil useage after the 1,500 mile I have put on it (presently 145,000 on the car). Everything still works, which impresses me. I have repaired the bumper, door and light myself (wrecking yard parts $450.00) and have seat covers ordered. We'll probably use this vehicle for our April trip to the Oakland Sailboat Show.

I bot this with 210,000 miles for a good price and if I new the performance was this bad i would of never bott it for this much money. San Berdu Ford really took me to the cleaners. They told me this car was a collector item. Is the car suppposedd to smoke when you drive it, they told me it was bad gas. My momma told me i shuodn't of listend. Don't buy from San Berdu Ford. Although they have good donuts and coffee.

Third row seat big enough for me (6"1') to fit in there (short trips), V8, styling

Weakness:

Gas mileage at 14 city, 19 highway, a few rattles here and there

This is the best sport utility vehicle I have driven that is based on a truck. I love the ride and the V8 is AWSOME!!! With 240 horsepower and a strong sound. The 5 speed automatic transmission is great too.

Strength:

Styling, power from engine.

Weakness:

Workmanship, but hasn't impacted performance.

I like the styling of this vehicle and the 2-door suits my needs. The power from the 6 cylinder was impressive and gave me more than enough to go over the Grapevine as I do each month and keep up with the traffic with no effort. There seems to be some shoddy workmanship around the windows allowing the annoying sound but I haven't gone back to the dealer to have it checked out yet. It's fun to drive and am pleased with my purchase.p

Strength:

Inexpesive to purchase

Weakness:

When the car goes bad, which should take about 2 years if not sooner, then you are in trouble. Dealer service is absolutely awful. The worst. If you need service and have to pay for it, go to an independent.

I won't buy a Ford again! After about 2 years, everything started to go wrong. Dealer service is horrible. I have been to 4 different dealers and get the same crappy service and high price. Ridiculous! I think the car's design is poor if not deadly. The rear fish-tails like mad, especially in wet weather. The car is dangerous in wet conditions and has to be driven carefully. I've spun out a few times.

Weakness:

fuel mileage, no limited slip rear axle in our fully loaded truck. Sticker price was 32,000

Great SUV, only problem we've had was the rear wiper failed at about 20,000 miles. This is our 4th explorer and we've been pleased with all of them.
