Strength:

Power Pulled our 32ft. camper great A lot of room inside

Weakness:

Gas machine

WOW! This SUV was the first that I had ever owned. I had been driving a Nissan Quest van that was great. However, the space in the Expedition was unbelievable. It was great! I had to turn it in because it was a lease. I miss it. I have another van and the space does not compare. I never had one minute of trouble with it. The gas was the only disadvantage. It will break you. But, if you don't mind spending money on gas, it is a great vehicle. It was so powerful and it makes you feel so safe. The van we are in now is so hard to get used too.

Strength:

5.4 has good power for pulling our travel trailer. Very solidly built, mine has been off road bouncing across ruts and buried in mud plenty of times without a breakdown.

Weakness:

suspension could use to be a little stiffer, I like the ride, but it does not take much weight to squat the rear end, and it tends to lean pretty easily when cornering.

We have two. Both vehicles are the best we have owned. Mine has 130k on it, and my wifes has 170k. We have only had one problem with them, a vacumn hose leak on my wifes. They both still have no squeaks, or rattles. They still run great. Our next vehicles will definately be later model expeditions.

Strength:

Fit and finish is as good as anyone, quality parts and textures. No rattles or squeeks, Handling is vastly improved over last year, power is good, features are great, especially a/c ducts in dash, radio controls. Leather seats are wearing well, look and smell wonderful.Dealers are more likely to give you a great deal over Japanese or german makers.Only paid 1200.00 more than 2001 new.

Weakness:

Engine runs out of oomph at full throttle, gets a bit thrashy. Paint on my hood was not quite up to level of rest of vehicle. Styling is good, but to little of a change from last year, although all body panels are different.

Traded 2001 expedition, primarily for towing 30' trailer, 5.4 liter engine is terrific on low end grunt, tows great with secure tracking. Needs more sophisticated dual overhead cam head that navigator uses, for more pick up power. Suspension is so much improved over last model, look underneath and be amazed at the unpainted aluminum dual wishbone front and rear! Cornering is the best, and when I pull up next to an Toyota Sequoia or mercedes/lexus suv, I look down and wonder why they paid so much more for so much less! Third seat roomy enough for three adults. Terrific value for the money, high tech suspension, state of the art brake system with reactive breaking that senses an emergency stop and applies brakes even faster than you can! Get the premium package and skip the eddie bauer, you get all you need, just opt for the 6 disk in dash cd unit.

Strength:

Handles well and drives well

Weakness:

Ford's service is poor.

this car has performed as expected. No break downs or mechanical failure. The 5.4 liter engine get reasionable fuel economy at 14.4/18.2 mpg. However, the engine has a knock that is very noticable and now that the warrenty is abut to expire, I plan on getting some other car as Ford has not been able to Identify the source of the noise. This is most unsatisfactory for a $33,000 car with only 22,000 miles.

Strength:

Reliable, value for your money, sporty looking, fun to drive, gas mileage.

Weakness:

Front passenger seat doesn't agree with tall people because the dash is low. Also, I have to agree with a lot of people that the cupholders are a pain - you can't put anything over a 16oz cup in them. Also the road noise leaves something to be desired, but I have my music up loud anyway - just a pain when you're trying to hear someone on your cell phone or in the back seat.

It's a good car - no major problems. Reliable, good power with the 4 cyl, 2.4 liter engine. Good ride over long distances too.. it's been to Arizona and all over California with no problems - knock on wood! Gas mileage is reasonable for it's size and fits 3 adult passengers comfortably.

Weakness:

Gas mileage and Wind noise at highway speeds

Outstanding vehicle, tremendous improvements over previous year(s) model. Solid build, I've had zero problems thus far. The ride is extremely comfortable and feels smaller than it is, thanks to the exceptional ride quality. My wife loves to drive this vehicle, hated previous model. Before buying this vehicle I did my homework and test drove many other SUVs, this was the best one!

The safety restraint systems is garbage. We've had it in the shop 3 times, and it's not fixed yet. The seatbelts lock everytime the brakes are applied and do not release.

Like the size for hauling kids!

Weakness:

More weaknesses than strengths unfortunately. Couldn't possibly explain them all in 1200 characters. Wish I would have bought a Tahoe!

I have been very disappointed in this vehicle. After paying high book value for it, I am now replacing the transmission for the second time in 2 months. Luckily it is under warranty but it makes me wonder if they are ever going to get it right. Are all the transmissions defective?

Model Reviewed: /Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

Strength:

The Eddie Bauer version has the memory buttons to automatically set the side view mirrors, brake and gas pedals and seat adjustments. My wife loves this feature. For the guys, the 5.4 liter engine is perfect for power and NEVER gives any problems. I don't want to be owning a vehicle that spends more time in the shop than I do driving it, and this vehicle doesn't do that. Another nice feature is the 6CD changer located in the arm rest. On long trips, you don't have to change CD's.

Weakness:

It drives and rides like a truck, but then again what do you expect. It's a big vehicle. I still give it 5 out of 5 stars for a rating.

Ford has a winner here! I bought this car based on the reviews at CarReview.com. I must say that the 4.03 out of 5 star rating is truthful. We have owned this car for 2-years and my wife drives it steadily. We have the 5.4 liter engine and it has given us absolutely NO PROBLEMS!!! Both my wife and I agree, we will definitely buy another FORD Expedition in the future after we wear this one out. I would recommend this SUV to everyone looking for a big vehicle that is EXTREMELY DEPENDABLE and you want a lot of interior space.

Model Reviewed: 4wd sport

Strength:

This is a pleasant car to drive, especially on long trips with several passengers(or children). Powerful enough for most mountain roads and passing. No trouble with overheating. Air conditioner cools entire passenger compartment great. Have gotten over 60000 mile on original goodyears. Safe car for those who drive in a state (NM) with a lot of alcohol behind the wheel(#1 reason for buying this vehicle /E=MV2).Manuevers and brakes well for a large vehicle.

Weakness:

Unfortunately this vehicle has me dreading how reliable it is going to be. Initially we had minor electrical problems, the horns stopped working and had to be replaced twice, the rear windshield motor also gave out and the radio would turn off on long drives. All of this has been repaired under warranty. Some of the moldings also faded and were replaced under warranty(car always garage kept). Transmission gave out at 60000 miles despite routine care and and great upkeep. Has never towed or been abused and has the tow package (transmission cooler, heavy duty radiator)This was discovered after the car was in the shop for about 10 days and the transfer case taken apart as well as an electronic regulator was ordered and replaced all as possible culprits. The car spent a total of two weeks in the shop this visit, luckily ford picked up 80% of th tranny repair(we had a service manager that went to bat for us or felt bad that at my insistance the transmission be looked at) He got ford to o a PO5 or PO7 whatever this is, if you have the records of good upkeep and servicing, and you have similar problems look into this. Apparrently our powertrain warranty is now extended as well.

This can be a great car, we really enjoy it, but I am very wary of how long it will hold up. If you buy one get the extended warranty, service it routinely, forget the added gadgets. Be prepared to spend alot on gas. Find a reliable dealer(service department) to work with. Do not buy 4WD unless you really need it(we do)there apparently is a problem with the transfer cases going bad(be sure to change this oil routinely) Service Tranny routinely since this seems to be a serious problem(read all other reviews). Keep in mind Chevy and Dodge are no better(read consumer reports), they actually have worse track records. The car otherwise looks great and drives great. I would recomend buy this car if you NEED a car like this, otherwise don't.
