Strength:
Fuel mileage for diesel. Overall comfort.
Weakness:
None Great truck! 7.3 Diesel really gets up and goes! Great fuel mileage (18-20 mpg). Very comfortable on long trips. Handles very well. You can put 8 people, their luggage and pull a trailer and the truck will not break a sweat. Attracts a lot of attention. Similar Products Used: Ford Bronco |

Lots of power and its huge its like a civilian tank if you will.
Weakness:
They could work on the shocks because you can feel it when u go over something. Its also a gas guzzler but i dont mind. on average,I spend about 50 bucks a week filling up the tank. I get about 12miles a gallon. I have had my excursion for about two years now and i love it. Its the best SUV out there.I have the 6.8 Liter V10 motor let me tell you, this thing flies once you tap on the gas pedal. |

XLT Ford Excursion
Strength:
Tows alomost anything without add ons or conversion. 10 cyl engine is matched to the size of the vehicle and frame.
Weakness:
Can be a parking problem. I never had to check height restrictions on parking garages before. The ride can be a little rough on rough terrain. Gas mileage is not too good but I expected that. I had hoped it would get a little better after break in, it didn't. Has enough power but could use a little more get and go for my taste. I have had my excursion for almost three years and the only problem I have experienced was rotor warping in the front brakes. The dealership repaired under warranty. Besides for a annoying rattle from the rear passenger door window at highway speeds and a squeaky spring in the front passenger seat it has been a great vehicle. Since I tow a 31 foot travel trailer 300 miles one way with three kids and all our stuff, my 10 cyl engine handles the load just fine. I wanted a real truck, I got a real truck. I do garage it (yes I can get it through the door with an inch and a half to spare) and only put about 10,000 miles a year on it. Similar Products Used: Chevrolet 1500 Suburban LS |

Strength:
Towing. Driving over smaller vehicles...I mean driving long distances. Feeling safe. Rear cargo doors...really kewlies....especially when hauling hay. Leg room and head room. Reclining seat in backseat. ( little fold forward one) Stereo rocks big time. Great multi passenger room.
Weakness:
rotors rotors rotors...wait did I mention rotors? tire wear, gas ( not as bad as so many think) brakes and handling over bumps and holes. Complexity of operating rear seat stereo. If middle person moves just right (or wrong) and bumps unit buttons it messes everything up. I bought my excursion for the roominess and towing capabilities. I paid alot so I hoped to get alot. Well hey I did! I got repair bills. I will admit my Excursion is beautiful, roomy as all get out and has some speed (I just have the small engine and with my 2 horse horse trailer fully loaded I have to keep my eye on the speedo) I unfortunately am on my third set of rotors...all somehow mysteriously never fall under warranty....go figure. Same with brakes. A reply I received from Ford was that because the Excursion is so big and I tow a horse trailer I can expect that....what a hoot! I simply said "Gee I thought that if I bought a vehicle with the highest capacity towing there was I was okay!" I was wrong. Good thing I dont have four horses or even two really fat ones. Has anyone else had their ignition melt? Mine did while parked in my incline driveway with the wheels locked to the left. You should have seen the tow truck drivers attempting to get the beast out of the driveway and onto a flatbed car hauler. I am also on my second set of tires getting ready for the third. I have also been informed Excursions are not easy on tires. As someone else posted the jolt ya get when you get a pot hole is ungodly. You can actually lose control of your X if you are not paying attention. ( hmm...paying attention while driving....what a concept) Overall I love my X and am pretty happy. I just wish Ford (and a few others) would make a vehicle that is worth what we pay for it. I am upset that Ford has the nads to build a $50,000.00 vehicle (give or take) yet it cannot be on the road for more than a few months without needing repair. Get with it Ford give us our moneys worth. Wow I didnt even know I had a soapbox....I guess i better get off of it. I do not think I would reccomend the Excursion because of all the problems I have experienced but if someone wants one ....Go for it. Gas Mileage but I''m not complaining. I get 15 on the highway. The Windstar only got 19. It does not take chuck holes very well, it weaved and shook woke us all up. Which had I been awake, I would not have hit the hole. I love my truck. After adding twins to the family it was time to ditch the Windstar. We took 4 kids and 3 adults to Florida with no problem. There was plenty of room to sleep. Then we took it with 4 adults on another 2500 mile trip. Both times we found the ride to be satisfactory. It wasn''t as good as the Windstar but it was fine anyway. It''s hard to notice you''re going 80 MPH (until the wife wakes up!) The storage capacity is great, although we have had to use a cargo carrier for that darn double stroller on longer trips. We haven''t had any problems with it whatsoever. Except one recall notice! I would only trade this truck in on a newer version. Similar Products Used: None! But I did try the Suburban and opted for the Mighty Excursion! |

Weakness:
DUMB IRRATATING STUFF THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A 42K TRUCK! I LOVE TRUCKS! NOT STATION WAGONS! THIS WAS THE ONLY CHOICE FOR US. AFTER DRIVING THE NEW SUBURBAN, A GLORIFIED STATION WAGON, THERE WAS NO DOUBT WHAT WE WERE GOING TO PURCHASE. ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY 3 KIDS AND ALL OF THEIR STUFF, INCLUDING FRIENDS! I HAVE BEEN SOME WHAT DISAPPOINTED SINCE THAT SPECTACULAR DAY IN JULY 2000 WHEN I DROVE MY DREAM TRUCK HOME. I HAVE HAD ONLY MINOR PROBLEMS, BUT ANNOING JUST THE SAME. FIRST, NO ONE CAN SEEM TO CHANGE THE OIL AND PUT THE NEW FILTER ON WITHOUT LEAKING, ALWAYS HAVE TO FIX MYSELF. THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ONLY WORKED WHEN THEY FELT LIKE IT, THEY FIXED THAT. THEN SEALS ON ALL OF THE RUNNING BOARD LIGHTS BROKE AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED NOW 2 TIMES FOR EACH LIGHT AND HAVE TO GO BACK BECAUSE 2 OF THEM HAVE WATER INTRUTION AGAIN. THEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING, THEY FIXED THAT. THEN THE TRUBO CHARGER SPRUNG A LEAK AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING, THEY DID. AND THEN THE FRONT PASS. WINDOW BLEW OUT, ALL OVER MY 15 YR OLD SON, FOR NO REASON THAT COULD BE FOUND, THEY DID NOT REPLACE THAT. AND LASTLY @ 37000 MY ABS SYSTEM HAS STOPPED WORKING AND FORD SAYS THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX IT BEACAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRENTY. UNFORTUNATELY, I STILL LOVE THE STUPID TRUCK... MUST BE A GIRL THING, GETTING ATTACHED TO A TRUCK. Similar Products Used: OWNED SUBURBAN, DODGE FULL SIZED VAN CONVERSION, 4RUNNER |

Diesel, diesel, diesel. Great mileage 15 city 20 hiway 10 pulling 10,000 lbs. Can''t even tell the boat is behind me. Everyone loves riding the bus, its comfortable with tons of room for our big family. The diesle motor makes this truck, would not have bought it without it.
Weakness:
The suspension is rough. $700 worth of aftermarket upgrade will fix all that. I have a 10,000 lb boat to pull. If you have something big to pull and a lot of people who want to come along, this is your only option. This motor built on Fords 250 truck chassy make the X a serious vehical. The Suburban is a big plastic car if you need a truck buy the X.
