Strength:

Comfort and vehicle carrying capacity. The spacious interior allows you to carry 6-8 personnel and gear inside the vehicle reducing the wind drag. With a Suburban or smaller SUV you needed a trailer or cartop carrier.

Weakness:

Ford's plan to end the line in end of 2004. Should give us a serious incentative to buy a new one in 2004 as it is the last year for a classic.

I have owned a Eddie Bauer Explorer and needed a larger vehicle. I was looking at the Suburban, Yukon, and Expedition for the money the Excursion was not only the best buy it had the best features and comfort off all. I have driven all for extended periods and would never go back to small little SUV. Loved it so much I bought a second one!

Strength:

Roominess, comfort of seats. Previous auto was a Chevy suburban where passengers feel like they're sitting with their knees in their chin. Diesel excursion gets good fuel mileage.

Weakness:

BUMPY!!!!! ride. No help from Ford for this problem.

Our 2001 diesel Ford Excursion has a horrible ride. The best description I can use is the sensation of being on a bucking horse. And that's sitting in the front seat, if you're seated in one of the rear seats hang on!! You may find yourself being thrown to the ceiling if you hit a bump in the highway. Complaints to Ford are useless, lots of run-around, no solutions. In desperation we've thought of having an air-bag system installed in hopes of improving the ride but Ford says that will void the warranty. Aside from this it would be a great automobile, lots of room for passengers and very nice interior.

Power, comfort, visibility, towing......etc

Weakness:

6.5-7.5 mpg driven in the city{3 mile trips mainly stop and go all the time}I use Moble 1 5w30 oil ,tornado, new airfilter, 65psi in tires.I have gotten 15.6 mpg on the highway which really surprised me.{This was done by driving 100 mile on the highway at 60mph and 10 miles in the city with very few stops.}

Amazing comfort.Beautiful looks.Capabilities are endless.I have really enjoyed owning the vehicle more that any other vehicle I have ever owned.Yes the X is big and does product problems parking. Not every one could maneuver this vehical safty without pracitic.Visablity is better than any vehicle I have every driven in.It towers over everything else. V10 engine runs very smooth, and has more power than anyone needs. You must keep your distance from other people when stopping fast, This X requires full concentration plus a football field to stop it.Haven said that this X gets plenty of respect on the road, people do give you the room you need knowing that if they don't they could be run over by a 8000 pound monster.

Strength:

So much room, and it's nice and big. We will win in a wreck, no doubt. I love being able to see over all of the stupid little cars. People move over for us, and I hardly ever get cut off in traffic. I like the 60/40 split in the middle seat. Keep the 40 side folded flat and it's a great spot for the 3 and 5 year olds to climb in and then go to the back row of seats, and can change diapers, etc on the flat spot where the seat is folded down. I can't imagine squeezing any family bigger than 3 or 4 people into anything else. Once you fill up a minivan, etc. with people, where does the stroller, etc. go? On top in one of those "turtle" things? NO WAY

Weakness:

Wish they would make these forever. What am I going to do when I need a new one and Ford has quit making them in 04? Wish it got better mileage, but really don't care because I love the thing so much. I will never part with this truck. The passenger side door lock buttons have recently quit working, and of course it's out of warranty now. Even that isn't enough to bug me, though, because overall it's a great vehicle. As with any truck, you just can't park it where you would park a tiny little car. Plus..don't want anyone to ding the doors of my baby!

I love my truck. Was a surprise from my husband when we were expecting twins and already had 2 little kids. Holds four car seats, a stroller, groceries and the dog with room to spare. I just couldn't see buying a minivan! In fact, my license plate frame reads: "This isn't his truck...it's my minivan". Spent three weeks covering over 4000 miles this summer with the kids and loved--absolutely loved this truck.

Strength:

Power, power, and more power. Interior room. Fuel economy very good for a large SUV (Diesel engine ONLY). Creature comforts. (Hey, who wants to rough-it ALL the time?) Ability to tow big trailers (up to 11,000lbs.) Split rear cargo doors are nice.

Weakness:

Maneuvering in confined spaces...it's BIG. Third seat access.

We purchased this truck new in September 2002 to replace my wife's '96 Suburban. We liked the Suburban, but recently purchased a larger travel trailer (34') and needed something with more power and curb weight than Chevy offered. Our Excursion has been a dream to drive. It is very comfortable on the highway and pulls a fully-loaded 8500lbs+ travel trailer with ease. We opted for the 7.3 litre Diesel for the torque (an amazing 525lb/ft.) and have not been disappointed. We have put over 6,000 miles on it in 5 months and are currently getting 16mpg city and 15-17mpg highway (under a full load: trailer, 5 passengers, two dogs and luggage). Compare that to the 7-8mpg I was getting with a smaller trailer and a 1/2-ton gas engine Suburban and I am a happy camper. There is ample interior room for our family of five, with children ranging in age from 19 months to 15 years. The third seat can be difficult to enter due to the height of the vehicle. It's a little tough to slide the second seat forward, step on the running board, and negotiate slipping into the back seat pretty much all at the same time. Kids don't seem to have trouble, but it's a chore for us oldsters. We looked at one with rear buckets and that seemed a better arrangement, but we wanted the extra seating the rear bench offered. We recently had the opportunity to (finally!) get it in the sand. We drove from Corolla, NC to the VA border and back, a distance of about 35 miles in the sand. With the tires at 25psi we cruised effortlessly up and down the beach regardless of sand conditions. I was concerned about the weight of the truck (7200lbs), but we had absolutely no trouble, even with my 16-year-old nephew at the wheel. I love this truck and drive it as often as possible, leaving my F-350 in the driveway. For a family considering hauling a trailer any distance at all there is nothing comparable.

Strength:

Room, power, stability, ride. Makes you feel good to put your families safety and needs first. Kids sleep the whole trip.

Weakness:

Parking does suck, especially while downtown in Washington, DC

I've wanted a full sized suv for a while. I drove an Explorer Sport for 3 years, and thought my family and I never had any complaints, we begane to accumulate more stuff, called kids. I looked at the Durango, Tahoe, Suburban, and Expedition, and none of them passed my rear seat test. At 6'3 I want to sit in the rear seat, and not have my knees on the front seat. The Suburbans are really nice also, but just not big enough. The V10 is great. I added an Tornado, and a K&N kit, and recently got over 18 mpg on a 600 mile road trip. My Explorer gets about the same, but burns 93 octane! Plenty of room for my son, and his friends, as well as car seats, and strollars. This truck is the way to go if you have ever wished you had more room. Add a tv/dvd and your kids will love you. My whole family, and inlaws can get in and go out to dinner, no more driving two cars. For the $$$ you can't get more bang for the buck. I love it.

I can't say there are any!

Absolutely love this "truck"! We have 48k on it now and just replaced the brakes for the first time. Gas mileage is low but expected from the V-10! Took to Ohio with my wife and 3 teenagers and had a blast because of the comfort. Took away from the grouchy feelings like the year before in a smaller vehicle! Can tote half of my son's baseball team to tournaments and still carry the equipment (I am the Coach). The parents feel very safe in letting their prized ones ride with us! I love it as much now as the first day I brought it home! Please tell me Ford will continue to make this Beauty!

Strength:

On the fly 4 wheel drive. View in traffic is # 1 for my wife. Double bumpers are reassuring. Room to take another family with us 8. Tailgate design is the best anywhere bar none. 3 row seats with room behind the third seat!! The level of the third row seat is equal to the rest unlike the more expensive Navigator which the third row seats floor is high and an adult knees will be even with their chest.

Weakness:

Gas understandably with a V-10. Noise from enginge transfered into cab. Top heavy and sways but can be eliminated with the right tires.

Waited a long time for this one. Almost bought a Surburban but we spotted the 1st one arriving in Dothan and bought it. Gas is ok since I have the V 10. Love the room, looks, colors inside and out and the tailgate design everyone loves, even the chevy people. Still after 2.5 yrs people want to look inside. Engine noise within cab is louder than normal. I believe the firewall being upgraded could do wonders for that. I put 4 x 4 package on mine with oversize tires and it is mean!
