Strength:

hauls 5 comfortably, with enough room in back for the bikes, ice chests ... ect. the size, people tend to think twice before walking or pulling out in front ofyou. its big but has style not like the boring sagging sheet metal of the expidition. after owning over 50 cars and tucks, it has one of the smoothest freeway rides, 37k on ther orginal tires. fair mileage on ther freeway, driving by the book with a/c 16.5 to 17 has been as high a 18.1.

Weakness:

a/c could be colder, doors rattle a bit even though they are closed tightly, sound system is so-so and the break pedal effort could be softer.

after buying a new dodge druango, five months later i flat out didnt like it beside their where problems starting to arise with it, so i decided the excursion would be my next vehicle. i found a low milage 2001 v-8 XLT in january 2003 and bought it, leaving the durango behind and not at all missing it. i love the thing, it has been to the dealership for some minor repairs all where covered under the warrantee and the dealership (pearson ford, san diego) took great care of me. i have not done much to my excursion, just added a three inch exhaust and opened up the air filter box a bit. the fact is, since ford is building the excursion for 2004 i will getting a new one towards the end of the year.

Model Reviewed: Ford Excursion 4x4 Limited V10

Strength:

Car is bid, good air conditioning. Can't stop but when you hit someone you just smash them.

Weakness:

Breaks fail, sub-standard brakes and Rotor design. Cheap plastic parts crack and break in sunlight. Cheap paint that wears off. Cheap ultra thin excuse for leather that rips apart at the seams. Faulty transmission that Ford continues to put in vehicle. No power, seats fall apart. Rear 2nd seat does not lock properly, causes passengers to fly foward in impact. No child restraints on 3rd seat. No Airbag switch for front passenger. Faulty Torque converters. 7 8 miles per gallon with V10. Re-called Firestone tires. Front Rotors warped 5 times. Vibrations felt above 55mph Seat knobs break and fall off. Blinker orange plastic fill up with water and short electricle system. Wipers come on at randome and switchs re-called. Rubber gaskets wear through paint to metal and cause rust, and eyesore. Factory paint thin and un-finnished No factory undercoating on vehicle. Air conditioning leaks water on passenger front springs and cause rust.

This seemed to be a great truck but if you paln to buy one... run for the hills. My Salesmen was great, but Ford is not. My paint job was so cheap when it came that the primer was showing on the hinges on the back barn doors. There was no undercoating on the underside of the truck and rust on all the metal. The heated seats have fallen apart over and over again. There have been recalls from tires, to wiper switches, headlight switches that catch on fire and rear windows. The transmission has been replaced, (Ford has problems with 3rd gear written up on Government consumer reports). The ABS brakes warp the front rotors, and fail when when you hit a bump on a turn (Safety complaint on Government report). My Torque converter "Blode up" on the 5 interstate and it cost me $1000.00 to get it towed under warranty. The gray leather seats fall apart after 40,000 miles at the seams and Ford does not cover them under warranty. The rubber body mounts crumbled and cracked apart at 37,000 miles and Ford tells you they are not covered under warranty. My Steering Shaft broke on the steering box, causing me to crash and hit a tree in town. (Cheep pot metal with bubble in shaft manufacturing caused failure). The black rubber gaskets around all the doors wear through the cheap thin paint on the car and cause rust. (Ford does not cover trim on warranty!). The barn doors in back have a 1/4 inch groove warn inside top and falling apart because rubber gasket on doors wore through the paint and into the fiberglass. (Not covered under warranty). I towed a friends boat and could'nt even make it up the hill to the lake because the torque converter is substandard. The Front blinkers are full of water because of the vent holes on the top, so when it rains they get water in them and short out the bulbs. (Not coverd under warranty!). The rearseat head rest fell apart, cheap plastic. (Ford will not warranty). At 70mph the hole truck vibrates and scares my family and Ford tells me that it is normal and they can only test them to 65mph otherwise they would break the law. Because of the Air-conditioner condensation location, water drips on front springs, rusts them out and ruins metal. The rearview mirrors plastic turns from black to white and cracks because Ford uses the cheapest plastic they could find. (Coverd under warranty). The cup holders are to small for medium and large drinks, the front one breaks after 30,000 miles. Factory Alarm installed at dealership broke 4 times, siren mounted facing up so it could collect water and short battery in rain. (Not coverd under warrenty) The steering wheel had to be replaced twice because Fords cheap grey paint wears of on your hands and Fords cheap thin leather comes apart at the seams. Clunks are heard in the drivers side front suspension. When braking at speeds over 55mph the Ford excursion pulls to random sides causing loss of control. (Ford assures that it is all normal and there are no errors on there test computer). After 36,000 miles you better be ready to spend a fortune on Motorcraft parts because Ford will not cover anything but drive-train and holes in the body. I will never buy a FORD again, it was the biggest piece of junk ever made. What is worse is that Ford will not stand behind their products.

Strength:

Big enough to haul lots of equipment.

Weakness:

Rear end seals fail frequently, 6.0Liter diesel engine is a nightmare.

Have owned the Excursion for 2 months, and it has been in the shop 9 times. Rear end seals have been replaced twice, airconditioning has completely discharged, and the 6.0L Diesel engine is a disaster. It smokes clouds, runs rough most of the time, stalls unexpectedly, and has had multiple computer problems and oil leaks.

Plenty of power and great looks.

Low gas mileage, 9 MPG. Front brakes could be a bit beefier.

One of the best tow/family vehicles I've ever owned. We haul a 23 foot Essex ski boat along with a car full of teenagers with plenty of power to spare. Greta comfort and plenty of room.

Strength:

Strong capable vehicle with room for 8 full size people in comfort, great highway visibility with great power on demand for moving confidently through traffic in tight quarters, those of you who drive in heavy irregular traffic will know what I'am talking about.(wife drives it and loves it,people who say its to large to handle have never driven a pick-up truck). I get to drive it whenever I please!(Weekends.)4X4 limited model definitely recommended for steering wheel a/c and radio controls.

Weakness:

No head rests for middle seat middle position or any positions in rear seat. All of Fords talk about safety and they still can't figure out that rear end collisions can snap a persons neck without a head-rest to prevent it go figure! purely ignorant thinking on Fords part if you ask me. Also no disabling of shotgun position seat.(Like people never carry more than 6 kids, like how about one more Ford.(daaa). Its put in their pickups but not their crew-cabs, again they saved a few bucks but show their lip-service to safety. No side impact air-bags offered(vehicle to be built for one more model year because sierra club doesn't understand diesal technology and Ford is losing the v-10 gas-hog p.r. campaign.)Trailer towing mirrors are not monocromatic and will blind you like a banshee when another truck pulls up behind you. Front fenders are also mounted crooked but they assembly plant put a sticker in the windsheild and said it was assembled with pride.(More Ford B.S. P.R. spin doctorism)

Fantastic Vehicle, highly recommend to those shopping yukon xl/suburban market. 6.0 powerstroke diesal/5 speed automatic transmission. Pulls strong and hard. Averaging 14.9 mpg on vehicle computer in city driving environment and fairly hard foot. Kids love the dvd player, it automatically starts and picks-up where it left off when you restart the vehicle, play it on head phones for the kids while you listen to your favorite cd upfront, remote control included for dvd.

Weakness:

WILL STOP MAKING THEM IN 2004! :(

WELL, LET ME BEGIN BY SAYING THAT MY EXCURSION IS AWESOME. IT CAME WITH THE TRITON V/10 WHICH IS OUTSTANDING. I HAVE PUT A 4IN LIFT ALONG WITH 305/16/70 GOODYEAR AT/S WRANGLERS ALONG WITH DUAL STEERING STABLIZERS. I TELL YA THIS THING GET ATTENTION AND HAS THE ABILITY TO BACK IT UP. I JUST CAME BACK FROM MY TRIP IN THE WOOD WITH THE FAMILY. I HAD A TRAILER PACKED W/MOTO CYCLES AND GEAR. WE HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS MUD BOG ALONG WITH GOING UP A BAD HILL WITH ROCKS AND MUD. MY EXCURSION PULL THROUGH THE MUD BOG WITH TRAILER LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. I WAS SO IMPRESSED ON THE WAY BACK DOWN I HAD MY WIFE VIDEO TAPE IT. I LOVE THIS VEHICLE AND WISHED FORD WOULD CONTINUE TO MAKE IT.

If you need a large vehicle, like power with good fuel economy, you need to look @ the new 6.0 turbo-diesel Excursion- This is a GREAT vehicle. with 8,000 mi, my ave MPG is 14.8 - mostly in town driving.
