V6 power is awesome. intellegent traction helps during winter and hard rains sunroof is cool, the color (shadow gray) rocks. fold in sits to create lots of room. towing capacity for a small SUV. decent interior. 4 airbags 2 fronts and 2 sides. awesome!
Weakness:
just the breaks for now. i hope the have low 4x4 option only auto and 4x4. just put it to first gear will do for the low haha. Well i bought this vehicle from a lease with 132,000 km on it. and now it got 170,000 km and still runs like new. no major problems just the squeking of the front brakes and the gas mileage. but for 2 yrs i think its time to change the spark plugs just to get better gas mileage. well im an outdoor guy i use my escape everyday winter, spring, summer, fall, mountains, lakes hauling boats and small camper and it never died on me. just regular maintenace Eg. oil change , transmission flush and rad flush. will do the trick to reach another 100,000 kms. Ford Escape
Strength:
Nice interior, though simply appointed, feels refined, not cheap. Quiet for an SUV/wagon. Competent road manners, good brakes/handling, 2WD version tracks well, even in snow. Gas milage almost as good as the Alero I traded in to get this Escape
Weakness:
4 cylinder/auto combo is OK, but could use a bit more thrust. Not wild about the plastic lower body cladding, but I guess it protects the steel underneath. So far, so good. Has surpassed all expectations. Wife wanted to "ride tall in the saddle". Bought 4-cylinder 2WD (front-wheel drive) w/automatic - drove it through blizzard in New Mexico over New Year's Day 2007 weekend. Awesome in snow - drove over 50 miles through heavy snow (6+" deep) at 50 MPH. Got 25 MPG on dry roads on way home, in vehicle w/less than 1500 miles. Great visibility, good brakes, adequate accelleration (small motor actually a "+" in snow/ice). Powerful heater, easy to grasp and use controls. Firm, comfortable front bucket seats, plenty of headroom. Standard radio has mp3 CD player, sounds OK. Love the white on black guages - white turns black at night, very nice contrast, backlit numbers/hashes show up easy to read day or night. Can turn off passenger side airbag (nice for kids in car seat). Base car has almost all power options - no power seat, foglamps or automatic headlights - Alero I traded had them, I don't miss them. 1. Alternator location!
Overall good vehicle....however, when your alternator goes bad, and you change it yourself, you're in for quite a treat! It took me 3 hours just to get it out! The motto "Ford has a better idea" does not apply to the alternator! |

Road noise, maintenance costs are ridiculous under 60,000 miles and over-bearing when you start reaching the 80,000 mile mark I bought my Ford Escape in 2002 in North Louisiana. It was fully loaded and brand new. After having it for two months it killed on me and I had to call roadside service to jump the battery. I ended up having to replace and pay for the battery eventhough I bought the 75,000 mile warranty. A year later my brakes started hissing loudly from under my feet. For awhile I couldn't drive without hearing that annoying sound constantly in my ears. The dealership couldn't figure out the problem though I took it to them several times. Six months from this point my escape killed on me again and this time it was the alternator. I had to pay for the battery that the alternator destroyed but Ford replaced the alternator. Next my driver side window motor went out and I had to replace that using the $50 dollar deductible from my warranty. While all of this is happening I'm faithfully paying Ford additional money to keep my car maintenance current. What A Joke!!

Major repairs on something that is less than 6 years old. This has been the absolute worst vehicle I have ever owned. at 49K I had to have the engine replaced. A piston had shattered in the oil pan.

Worst stock radio system on ANY car I've ever owned or driven; minor oil leak i'm still trying to locate. Gas milage I bought this car because I owned an SUV a few years ago and missed the practicality the vehicle gave me. As an avid cyclist and father of three boys, space and comfort are a must. This car seems to work for me because it met several things I was looking for in the next car I owned. I needed a V6, which this one is; and at 6'4"/245pnds, I wanted room, which this car also provides. Unfortunatly, one month to the day I bought it, a lady who was not paying attention to where she was going, rear ended the car, causing $9500 worth of damage. I've had the car back for a month now, and I hear alot of creaks and squeeks as it goes along. For all the things I like about the car, I'm not impressed with the gas milage. My old 1990 Jeep Cherokee Limited got better gas milage than this vehicle, and it was a heavier car!! After the accident, I came to realy not like front bucket seats that do not have adjustable head rest. I also found out that it wasn't rated too highly in side impact collitions; something I guess I should have researched that before I made the purchase. I've read other reviews on the vehicle, and frankly I'm concerned about what life will be like with this car when it odometer is over 100,000 miles. What I've read, based on consumer reviews and other publications, Ford has addressed most or all of the problems earlier models like mine have/had. For now, I'm inclined to purchase a newer version of this vehicle provided I can get a Hybrid w/ 4 wheel drive. Similar Products Used: 1990 Jeep Cherokee LTD |

Falling apart at only 78,000 miles. I know they dont last forever but I at least thought Id get 100,000 miles on it without having to do any major work to it besides normal maintence At first I loved my escape and now Im hating it. Just about a month ago I had it die on me and that cost me 700.The dealership said something anbout a PC valve, then me air bag light came on and the dealership wanted 500 to change the seat belts, now a week later my alternator goes out. Im also having problems with my sun roof, and when I first bought it the cruise didnt work and that took forever to get fixed and the power window was broke. I got the crusie control fixed and the window however the window pops off track everytime you roll it down and put it up going faster than 15 miles an hour. I am not liking this at all.I traded in my Satrun SL2 for this and it had 139843 miles on it and run like a top. I dont think I would consider buying another one. |

Escape XLT
Strength:
Styling, size ( lot's of room for the size, great value), ride, handling, performance and comfort.
Weakness:
Escape does not have A/C setting like their counterpart, Mazda. i.e. air can only be set for upper distribution if A/C is on. Also, as stated all models should have 4 wheel disc brakes. I've had this car for over 2 years and I am exceptionally pleased with it. Though there are only 30k miles on it It has been reliable. I have taken two long distance trips with it and found it to be very comfortable to travel in as well as the car having great handling, and performance. I must say that I had to change the covers on the front seats after 5k due to premature wear and also the front brakes and "Continental" tires after 19k miles, btw, the front brakes are still sqeaking. The dealer did cover the seat covers and brakes under warranty with no questions asked. The service has been great. I would definitely purchase another Escape but would get an all-wheel drive with disc brakes all around. My car does not have disc brakes up front. Weakness:
small gas tank but not a really biig deal This has been a very good car for my wife and I. It is comfortable on longer drives, and gets fair gas mileage. Features wise we have no complaints and mechanically with over 10,000 miles on it absolutely no problems. Interior is roomy. My wife and I wanted a small SUV and this has fit the bill perfectly. The V6 is adequate and I find no problems with acceleration. The car handles well and sits high enough that you have good visability. While there is some road noise it is not too bad and we do not find it an issue. The back doors allow enough room to enter the vehicle and it is very easy to put a baby or toddler in a car seat back there. Overall a wonderful car and would buy again if the need arises.
