Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

Price, acceleration (V6), nice sized - not too big not to small

Weakness:

reliability (specifically brakes, shocks and emission system), vanilla interior.

Extremely dissapointed. After my Ford E150 which lasted 170K miles I decided to stick with Ford and I'm regretting it. Reliability is terrible. Wishing I went Japanese.
Looks - Exterior is ok. Not as nice as
some (nissan xterra) but nicer
than others (element). Interior
is bland, shifter is postiioned
poorly
Ride - ok, solid but not plush the way
many other vehicles are. Decent
acceleration & braking
Fuel - gas tank is too small (should be
19 or 20 gall instead of 16) and
gas mileage has been 18 mpg in
mixed driving (expected 20)
Cost - excellent. Very reasonably priced
Comfort - comfortable seats and driving
position
Reliability - I bought this with 35K on
the odometer and have since put 15,000
miles on it. In 15K miles the rear
shocks, egr, and catalytic converter
had to be replaced and there are still
more problems to be fixed. I wish now
I had bought the rav 4 or Honda CRV.
The celica, camry, and lexus my family
has had got 150,000 with little
maintenance. Wishing I got a Rav4

Transmission sucks

I loved this vehicle and would have recommended to anyone. That is until about 1 month ago. The transmission in this ford sucks. I was 3000 miles over the 36000 mile warranty and on my way to Kansas City the transmission totally went out and cost me 3,900.00 to replace at a ford dealership!. According to a local mechanic here in town he has replaced 4 transmissions in 4 ford escape. The spindle twists and breaks. he said Ford knows about the problem won't recall them and if replaced it will happen again in about another 36000 miles. Gonna dump this lemon before then.

Durable. Milage. Split back seats.

Weakness:

AC went out at 55K. Heard the transmission may be bad in the 2006 model year, but have not experianced that.

Love the car. Owned since 10/05. Good milage--23/25 if kept at 70mph. Also 2 wheel drive. Handles nice. Lots of pep. Maybe a little bit rough ride, but that is ok. Treat like a truck--and do the prescribed maintainance. Used on gravel desert roads a fair amount so things rattle a bit. Still great traction with good clearance. Only major item that went out was the AC @ 55000. Now @ 75000 most of which is highway milage in the Phoenix heat.
Tires wear well. Love the roomy interior. No clostrophobia her at all. Radio is good with Sirius. Overall a great vehicle, would buy another--especially since I heard milage improved to 28mpg

Style, comfort, gas mileage, traction, comfort.

Weakness:

poor after market support.

Great vehicle. Love the leather, and sirrius radio. Good gas mileage. Increadible traction in snow, and great off road ablility while maintaining good on road handling. This little SUV gives the feel of a big rig, until you get into tight spaces such as a parking lot, then it turns on a dime and makes parking in tight spaces a breeze. The V6 makes good power (200 hp) but I tow a 16ft camper trailer, and could use a bit more power. The 2009 have 220 HP, and that should solve the horse power concern. The only other complaint I have is with the after market parts. There are very few places to purchase after market parts, such as Cat Back Exhaust, chrome door handles etc. maybe they just need time to catch up. This is a great vehicle, much better than I expected

great appointments and more car for the money. never a problem just routine maintanance.

Weakness:

Could use more cargo room, but i guess thats the charm of this vehicle. It's size I didnt want a full size truck.

Ecellent! Ford got it right on this one. It's a great 4x4 at a great price. I was concidering a few other s.u.v but we're happy with our chouice and the price was outstanding (alot of bang for the buck) this is the third one I've owned so far.

Great ride, safety features.

back windshield wiper

I loved my escape. I had the car for 5 years and just hit 55,000 miles. It drove great, it drove smooth, and I had no major problems with it. I think the only thing that I had problems with was the back windshield wiper and the back lock needed repair.
As far as safety goes I would say that I walked away unharmed. This week I had a head on collision that proceeded to flip my escape over. I was able to crawl out, leaving the accident with a cut.
I loved my car, and would consider buying another one.

Sun & Satellite Package, Leather Interior, handles smoothly on a truck chassis to avoid the awkward "feel like I'm about to roll over" feel you get in other SUVs, 12mo sirius membership, aux in for ipod

Weakness:

Mats are a bit lacking in size and quality, but I just purchase 45 dollar all weather mats -- I don't have many complaints yet it's a great car at a great price

Ford Escape XLT w/Sun & Satellite, 17" Mag Wheels, Leather Package, Comfort & Convenience Package, Roof Rack, 6CD Changer w/AUX input, Cargo Package, 4wd V6 3.1cylinder

Overall a very nice vehicle, I definitely would opt for the leather interior and the mag wheels, it gives it a little more class as the cloth interior is a bit tacky. Easy controls, nicely placed for driver & passenger access ... tons of room and not as clunky & plasticy as I thought the interior would be ... I definitely recommend it for folks who want a nice smaller SUV, that is subtle but classy, and handles tight.

You can easily baegin this vehicle down from MSRP and even invoice price, my XLT was listed at 23,400 base, 28,600 with the upgrades and I got them down to 24,500 with invoice at 25,000 as equipped.

Ford has a 2000 cash back incentive which with about 3,000 of my own cash down the payments via Ford are around 450 at 7.9% obviously you can refinance at a lower rate later.

Brake dust is annoying and would keep me from buying another Ford

Overall, I like the Escape and would get another one. Bought it new, now have 80,000 miles on it. Had to replace a wheel bearing at 35000 miles - covered under warranty (just barely). Brake dust is bad - but I just replaced the original brakes at 75,000 miles so I can't complain much. Other minor problems, typical of any automobile. I find the seats to be very comfortable for long trips - I drive mostly highway miles and need the firm back support.
Wish I had gotten a split backseat. V6 is excellent - gas mileage is around 21 city, 26 highway. I replaced the original Bridgestone tires at about 25,000 miles - much quieter ride with Michelins.
