Strength:
Great look, good gas mileage, nice to drive
Weakness:
back hatch leak, ABS problems, poor customer service, interior stains easily, 2008 model door handles scratch easily (don't even know how I did it) and snow always manages to end up on your seat when you open the door. bought this new from the Corner Brook,NL dealer. Will never purchase from here again. leaky hatch is chronic problem to which the vehicle has been sent to speedy uncountable number of times and it has never been fixed and they won't replace the hatch. Because I've had so many problems with the vehicle the dealer that I purchased it from seems to avoid me like the plague. I've had ABS issues, Transmission leaks, Coolant leaks. Thank goodness It's under warranty. Pity the poor sole that buys this after I trade it in. poorly made must have been made on a Friday. Mother has one with no problems. But I've had nothing but problems from day one. I love this vehicles look and I Love driving it but very sad about the problems but more importantly about the customer service that I've recieved. They should be more willing to satisfy their customers. |

The leather never ripped on the interior.
Weakness:
engine blew at 102,000. I had my oil changed every 3000 miles and any other maintenance that had to be done. Then I find out that other Escapes are having the same issues. What does that say about the "Ford" name???? I would never buy another ford vehicle again in my life for the amount of money this is going to cost me. |

Strength:
Nice looking, roomy, fair gas mileage, nice bells and whistles, good power.
Weakness:
Replaced transmission at 4,200 miles. Back in shop again for same problem. We were very happy at first with this car, but now believe we have purchased a lemon. Very disappointed considering this is the first new car I have ever bought. |

All whistles and bells-V6, AWD,air,AWB heated seats, safety features.
Weakness:
Electrical problem an expensive problem-can't trust it. Has all the features. Replaced noisy Continental tires w/Michelins. Everything fine-bought at 30,000 mi but at 81,000 mi the computer failed, ruining fuel pump and catalytic converter. $2900 later, and 1500 mi later comp failed again. In shop and will sell because I can't trust it. Ford people can't explain, other than a shorting problem which screws up expensive computer. Similar Products Used: None |

Workmanship, body integrity, fit & finish, mileage, acceleration, drivetrain, passenger & cargo room, quite, comfort, and value.
Weakness:
Engines (4 & 6) are a bit noisy on hard acceleration. Owned Japanese cars since 1975, most recently an Infiniti Q45t. Wanted a small SUV - tried EX35, RAV4, Rogue and Santa Fe. They all had their pros and cons, but I kept looking. Stopped by the local Ford dealer, even though I had't been impressed with them since my 1965 Mustang (which I loved). Drove a 4cyl and 6cyl Escape. Liked them both. Chose the 4cyl, as I was suprised by the acceleration, smooth 6 speed tranny and gas mileage. The Limited FWD with Moon & Tune package has most every goodie you could want. Also got the side step bars, although I probably didn't need them. The vehicle rides more like a truck than a car, but is relatively quiet, smooth and stable. Maneuvers well and doesn't feel top-heavy - steering is precise. NAV, Sirius Radio/Travel Link, phone (Bluetooth) and audio/CD/DVD functions are all voice activated and controlled. The sound quality is great - as good as the Bose system in the Infiniti. The leather seats are very comfortable. Front and rear leg room is more than adequate. Rear seating is much more comfortable than the EX35, Rogue and Rav4. Usable cargo room is also better than those vehicles. NHSTA 5 star ratings with curtain airbags front and rear. Overall, this was the best value of the bunch and Ford's quality, fit & finish and attention to detail was impressive. Consumer Reports ratings bear this out. Strength:
Front seats adjust well, HVAC, starts well in extreme cold.
Weakness:
Motor, fuel economy, drive train, factory tires, transmission, acceleration. I hate this vehicle. It is poor on fuel when driven to keep up with traffic. Acceleration is lack luster, and the motor feels strained when pushed. The factory tires are garbage, and started making a loud humming sound 20 k km ago. Burning oil smell coming from motor. After only 45 000 km, the ABS has failed, and now the 4wd light is on. The transmission has started shifting funny, sometimes clunking between 2-3. There is a clunk sound when going over bumps from the rear end. Granted, the roads I travel are rough, but not terrible, and that's why we bought this vehicle. ( My old 85 Peugeot 505 rode better, and more reliably over worse roads!!!!)

reliability, interior looks, mpg. The worst piece of junk I have ever had the misfortune to come across. I can deal with the bland interior and the fact that gas mileage was disappointing. I can't deal with the fact that there are only 49,000 miles on the odometer and I have had to replace the EGR, o2 sensors, rear shocks, and catalytic converter twice and the problems still aren't done. A complete money pit. Similar Products Used: Ford e150. This was a great vehicle and I swore by Ford after this van but... |

Very capable 4 wheel drive
Weakness:
Full-time 4X4 gas usage
I bought my Escape used with 35K miles and now have 115K. I don't drive abusively, but I have put this little SUV through some tough stuff. I've towed a fully loaded trailer from Chicago to Kansas City twice. I've had locals on 4 wheelers look at me like I'm crazy on old logging roads. I don't like the fact that I pay for full time 4 wheel drive all the time at the gas pump. I've been really happy with this car, but it's latest feat takes the cake. It was parked in Chicago and hit hard. The other car hit the tow hitch and shoved the right rear tire into a curb. It bent the frame and caused the right rear door to get wedged into place. Visibly the only thing you could see were a few small tears on the black plastic bumper and the two hitch was shoved down. I was able to drive that car over a 1000 miles before I was able to get home and have it looked at. There was over $5100 in damage to it, and it drove and looked fine. If you want a car you can put through the paces that will take it like a champ, this one will do the job nicely. |
